In Honor Of Election Day, Ten Campaign Freebies From Candidates On The Ballot

Beth Anne Rankin (Republican, Arkansas District 4)
The Arkansas primaries really are the most populated of this cycle, and the more fruitful when it comes to getting free campaign items. Beth Anne Rankin, a former Miss Arkansas with ties to Mike Huckabee, asks you to volunteer on her campaign for yard signs and bumper stickers. Like other candidates, getting free stuff does count as “volunteering,” but you might have to go to a campaign office to get it.

Earl Blumenauer (Democrat, Oregon District 3)
Blumenauer, despite being a Democrat and an incumbent, is not expected to face any major challenges today as he coasts into the general election. No bumper stickers from him, but you can request a yard sign online, although, as with Rankin, you might have to pick it up yourself.

Jim Gerlach (Republican, Pennsylvania District 6)
The exciting race in this district is on the other side of the political aisle, but that doesn’t keep incumbent Jim Gerlach’s campaign from being really, really excited about their new lawn signs! Get ’em while they’re hot! He will also give you a bumper sticker as part of “volunteering.”

Dennis McDonald (Democrat, Montana House of Representatives)
Dennis McDonald, Democratic candidate for Congress in Montana (Montana only has one Congressional representative), isn’t on the ballot today, but I’m including him because, besides sending a free bumper sticker from Montana to New Jersey, McDonald also sent me a handwritten thank-you note, along with political literature full of breathtaking landscapes and photos of McDonald hunting with his family and loving the earth. Now that is misplaced dedication.

Extra Credit: Scott Brown For President

Not on the ballot today– or, likely, ever– is presidential (?) candidate Scott Brown, everyone’s favorite former-model Massachusetts Republican. The people behind the “Scott Brown for President” campaign, who don’t seem to have any affiliation to Scott Brown himself, will actually send you two high-quality bumper stickers for the price of one, which is $0. Worth having in 40 years to when your grandchildren ask, “What’s a Tea Party?”
