In Good Company? Levi Johnston and Playgirl‘s Best Cover Stars

Sarah Palin's almost-son-in-law Levi Johnston has been toying with the idea of an appearance in Playgirl for what seems like forever, but recently the rumors have been rekindled. Now, the deal seems inevitable and the only the thing holding him back is deciding whether or not he'll show all of the Alaskan wilderness or just the coastline -- if you know what we're saying. In light of yesterday's Associated Press report that Johnston would, in fact, pose (after a stint in the gym), we went on a little trip back through the archives. "Research," you could call it, of the illustrious company Johnston will join when he stars in an issue of the now-online magazine. (The final print issue was published last November.) And though the magazine historically struggled with getting the high-profile nude shots that would have set them apart as extra-scandalous, they did manage to snag quite a few hilarious, er... stars. If you want to call them that. Let's just say Nick Nolte and Sly Stallone are about as highbrow as you're going to get. Check out the cover stars! Looking young, dashing and sober(-ish), Nolte has doubtlessly the classiest looking Playgirl cover of all time. And he could act! Speaking of classy, all around hunk Burt Reynolds took a turn on Playgirl’s Special Christmas Issue, grinning with a look made creepier by that ubiquitous mustache. Though we’re sure this Exclusive Interview with Sly about his "ordeal after Rocky" was insightful and even heartbreaking, the action star was probably greased down and shirtless, too. Next page: John Travolta and Bret Michaels. On this glamorous cover John Travolta looks pensive and sensitive. "Behind Closed Doors" he looks shirtless, pensive and sensitive. 1980s hair metal was not man’s finest hour. But this may have been Bret Michaels’ finest hour as he covers an especially neon issue and the covers descend into pseudo-celebrity. Oh, Lorenzo Lamas. We hardly knew ye, but we can all respect your outrageous pecs. Next page: Jean-Claude Van Damme and some country star... The Muscles from Brussels. In a vest. Without a shirt underneath. Plus, his "Secrets of Seduction!" How did this magazine ever fail? Country "superstar" Billy Currington "likes it slow and long." Who? In this issue, the 90210 star Brian Austin Green sounds off about what he knows best: hip-hop and "the horizontal bop." And he’s doing his best Vanilla Ice. Somebody get this man another acting job! Pay no attention to the anonymous hunk on the cover. The real story is inside when 5 former Enron employees show off their "hidden assets."
