Congressman Joe Walsh: The Media Will Protect Obama Because He Is Black

video

Congressman Joe Walsh told the Media Research Center‘s Brent Bozell that the media will do whatever it takes to protect President Obama because he’s black. “This guy pushed every one of the media’s buttons. He was liberal, he was different, he was new, he was black. Oh my God! It was the potpourri of everything! They are so vested in our first black president not being a failure that it’s going to be amazing to watch the lengths they go to protect him.”

In an interview posted on CNS.com, the Illinois representative, who is greatly admired among Tea Party activists, sat down with the conservative media critic to discuss what the mainstream media will do to help President Obama in his reelection efforts.

“You see this administration playing class warfare and race warfare games,” said Bozell. “Now, that’s their problem. But what does it say about the national media that they are aiding and abetting this by not exposing the dishonesty here?”

Walsh explained that the media will desperately go through great lengths to protect a black, liberal president.

WALSH: Reagan was beautiful because Reagan simplified everything, so let’s simplify it. This guy pushed every one of the media’s buttons. He was liberal, he was different, he was new, he was black. Oh my God, it was the potpourri of everything. They are so vested in our first black president not being a failure that it’s going to be amazing to watch the lengths they go to protect him. They [the media], I believe, will spout this racist line if some of their colleagues up here aren’t doing it aggressively enough. There is going to be a real desperation.

Earlier this year, Walsh said President Obama was only elected because be he was an “articulate black man” and “liberal guilt.”

Because he is black AND LIBERAL.  Hermain Cain gets no such treatment.  Atleast Walsh has the balls to be honest.

Wash is just an ordinary average guy…..who spent the last year; rocky mountain way.  Can’t get much higher than that.

  • PrezOworst

Liberal media and liberals is correct.  Race is smoke and mirrors.

  • sun

The national media almost always aids dishonesty that comes from any part of the political spectrum. They only care about ratings.

  • Anonymous

Actually it is because he is liberal and BLACK.  Walsh is such a good guy.

  • Anonymous

Earlier this year, Walsh said President Obama was only elected because be he was an “articulate black man” and “liberal guilt.”

Joe Biden and Harry Reid said similar things. Why don’t you post those quotes?

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

“He (Reid) was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama – a ‘light-skinned’ African American ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,’ as he said privately. Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama’s race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination,”

    …said the deadbeat dad.

So very True!  As conservatives, let’s keep talking about how Obama is Black!  Many more will vote for our party!

  • Anonymous

How else do you explain the MSM not just looking the other way while he forceably rapes our children and grandchildren, but themselves joining him as willing participants in the debauchery?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NWVKX2P2QBPQ6FHQHCHVIC2ALQ Fedup in Florida

I wonder if Reid still calls Obama a Negro?

  • Anonymous

He’s right and everybody knows it. Not exactly an outrageous observation, it’s been brought up by Hillary, Geraldine Ferraro, Bill Clinton, Harry Reid, Biden, and scores more Dems and liberals. Facts are nothing to hide from.

  • Anonymous

Well…Walsh IS right. You may not like him, but no one can argue with that.

  • Anonymous

His child support issues don’t discount the fact that he’s right about this.

  • Concerned Citizen

Come on folks, if Obama was named Joe Smith and he was white, with the background and non-experience Obama had, there is no way Joe Smith would have been elected even in the primary over Hillary Clinton. Joe Smith wouldnt have gotten 99% of the black vote in record turnouts. Mr Walsh speaks the truth.

  • Anonymous

When he’s at home I’m sure he does. Harry is of an age and upbringing that he probably calls him our “colored president” when not near  microphone or any “colored” folks…

  • Joerogysun1971

    If it
were only a matter of race and left-leaning policies, why didn’t Carol Moseley Braun, Jesse Jackson, or Al Sharpton ever win the Democrat Party Nomination?

Let’s take a look back at 2008.  It was not a good election year for
Republicans/Conservatives.  McCain didn’t run a good race, and was not sufficiently conservative (so says popular conservative Rush Limbaugh).  I think those were the top reasons why Obama won.

As a black professional, I find it undesirable to complain about discrimination in the workplace.  If I saw a less qualified white co-worker being promoted over a black one, I wouldn’t question aloud if it was because of race.  If I had, everyone would probably complain that I was playing the race card.

Now, white people are all too eager to label any occasion when a white man fails and a black man succeeds as a classic case of reverse-discrimination.  It is pathetic.

  • Anonymous

Mr. Dead beat Dad needs to start worrying about paying his child support.

  • Anonymous

Gotta love Mediaite… We’ll offer our opinion/condemnation on Mike Tyson, Keith Olbermann, Alec Baldwin and any other liberal/anyone that says anything about a conservative.  But some loser congressman, Trump, Limbaugh or Beck that spew this crap on a daily basis… we’ll happily reprint it with some lame line at at end like “well there are two sides to everything, what do you think readers?” – (an Alex Alvarez special!!)

Now if a Democratic congressman said Mrs. Palin was put on the 2008 ticket because she has tits… me thinks Mediaite would weigh in with some opinion, probably getting “liberal” Tommy Christopher to rant about how over the top it was.

Thanks again Mediaite… anything for page views!!!

To answer the question in your first sentence, because they are idiots. Well Sharpton & Jackson anyway, Moseley-Braun isn’t an idiot but she was never on the radar screen with voters nationally.

  • Anonymous

Still doesn’t negate his observation. He’s right about Obama and you know it.

  • Anonymous

Does the fact that he didn’t pay his child support somehow invalidate his observation? It’s not like one has anything to do with the other, you know like ahhhh not paying taxes and being the treasury secretary.

  • TbagsRstupid

And you are consistent on these matters right or left.

  • Jason

I don’t think you democrats want to get into a debate about deadbeat dads. Remember who your base consists of, stupid.

  • Ho Li Crap

Speaking of “potpourri”, there’s not enough potpourri in the world to cover up the stink on this piece of shit Walsh.

  • Joerogysun1971

So it isn’t just a matter of race?  Someone actually has to be smart and campaign well?  From reading Joe Walsh’s comments, I thought you just had to walk in with a college degree and proof of at least one black parent to get the democratic nomination.

  • Jason

Well, you’re mostly correct, however Obama is also an idiot. His idiocy is only apparent when you he’s asked to a job outside of reading a teleprompter, though.

  • Jason

Again, you liberals need to know your base. Quit while you’re ahead, champ.

  • Joerogysun1971

In the America I grew up in, being a deadbeat dad is shameful.  If there is one job that a man can’t fail or quit, it is taking care of your kids.  The fact that Rep. Walsh would rather run around raising money and campaigning so he could have a platform to complain about reverse-discrimination shows that he has no idea what is important in life.

His 3 children’s well being should be on his mind, not the 2008 electorate discrimination of Caucasian politicians in the US.

  • Anonymous

Being a deadbeat dad is shameful, but it’s got nothing to do with his observation. If he was commenting on Obama’s parenting skills or capability you would have a valid point, but he isn’t.

I guess Walsh never watches Fox to see how Obama is treated. I think that stories about Walsh should end until he pays his back child support. He loses credibility on almost all issues. I agree Obama has not done a great job but I have not seen any Republican in the current field who would get my vote.

Republicans attack Dems for supporting an “inexperienced, unqualified” candidate for president…..yet they did exactly the same by supporting Sarah Palin for VP.

Sarah Palin is a joke and nobody would be talking about her if she wasn’t every Republican male’s wet dream.

…not paying child support does not necessarily equate to being a deadbeat dad. There are various reasons for a person to not have paid child support, or not to be up-to-date on his/her payments.

Some down-on-their-luck fathers raise their kids while living with the childrens’ mother (on the down-low), even though (by court order) they owe child support (because the mother had to file certain papers in order to get welfare).

But, I don’t suspect this kind of stuff exists in YOUR neighborHOOD.

The right wing media attacks Obama every day on the radio, on T.V., in newspapers, and in their books.  The left wing media, including Keith Olberman has also been extremely critical of Obama.

Exactly. There was a time when nuts like the “birthers” weren’t given the time of day. Now they are not only given a platform by the media but manage to get people like Trump to echo their nonsense. What Walsh said isn’t true, but you’ll never convince certain people of that. Now that Walsh has dropped any pretense, coming out and attacking the president on race, the only refuge they have is to pretend that he is right and therefore his remarks weren’t racist.
It takes a special sort to live in a country where, for hundreds of years, 43 presidents all had a certain something in common, and only now when the 44th breaks the mold do they complain of a racist agenda, not concerning the 43 presidents who were all white, but the one and only black president.

  • OSux

Like all liberals, people in the media have a deep hatred of America and are extremely guilt ridden.  They feel that white people are evil and and the cause everything that has ever been wrong.  To make up for that they have fallen in love with Obama.

The only way you can describe Walsh’s stupidity is to say he is a Tea Bagger.  He wasn’t thinking down the road when he signed Norquest pledge, and he was stupid enough not to recongnize the damage he created to our country by holding the country hostage and causing our credit rating to be lowered.  Norquest’s narrow mind thinks he can eliminate all tax increases and prevent tax loopholes from being closed.  In doing so he is strangling our country of needed taxes which only causes our Natuional debt to increase in order to meet our obligations.  He wants to either eliminate Social Security, or at least severly decrease its benefits along with Medicare and Mediaide which the majority of the country are in favor of.  He and his Tea Bagger followers are nothing more than idealist with no thought or understanding of what inflation and other factors will do to our economy without any means to counter increase costs due to inflation and other increases.  They would rather see our country default on our loans and go bankrupt, than to allow reasonable cost measures to be implemented that could both decrease the National debt or help retirees who have contributed to Social Security every working year of their life.

Next shocker from Joe Walsh:  the sun rises in the east.

I’ve been watching and reading a lot of things lately trying to figure out where the Obama administration went wrong.  Here’s where it went wrong:  right at the beginning.  And why was that?  Because so many people, especially in the media, were so caught up in the “historic” nature of Obama that they either forgot or chose to ignore a basic, very simple fact:  historic is not a synonym for good or competent.

Joe Walsh is out of touch, here is an update on economics.

    Divide Wall
Street into two separate entities. The Gamblers in one entity and the sound
investors in the other entity and watch the world economy improve. No more blood
sucking with excess profits and free market forces down our throat.

Price Inflation and Excess Profit Inflation from Wall
Street have sucked the life out of our economy. The Casino part of Wall Street’s
Profits have caused prices to rise so high, it went into a  free fall which we are still in and until the
general public has money to purchase again we will float around like the
homeless. Wall Street should probably be divided into two parts, the real
growth producers and the Gambling part which should be an entity unto it’s
self. Then they can compete with Las Vegas without disrupting real businesses
    and national growth.

Per person Social Security is the most worthy
productive program on the face of the earth. It supports millions upon
millions, these people support the economy by re-circulating this money
continually growing and supporting the economy and it was actually money form
an insurance program. Compare this to your tax dollars paying $60,000 per year
to keep prisoners in prison, which is $5,000 per month, 5 times what Social
Security recipients’ receive per month. Republicans have nothing to compare
Social Security to when it comes to any program which benefits our economy
coming and going, it is a good and decent recirculation of money moving in
    every direction.
Wall Street falls short of being decent, sound, steady and non-inflationary as
Wall Street is in its present form. They say workers wages are INFLATIONARY and
they moderately are inflationary and were recognized it as such when John
Maynard Keynes, the Father of Keynesian Economics, explained how Capitalism
could not survive without moderate inflation from time, use and the elements.
To understand this time, use and the elements situation better; “Line up 5,000
empty 6 oz. glasses in a single row, now take the first glass and fill it with
water, now take the first glass which is filled with water and continually dump
it into the nest glass and keep doing that until you run out of water. That is
where we are in our economy today. We need more water like our economy needs
more money. Those who say printing money is inflationary are wrong. Loss of
money through radical profits like Wall Street produces , theft, graft and
corruption through which many business push deals onto our Government Treasury
and it is criminal and proving John Maynard Keynes to be right on target with
    accuracy.
Wall Street’s radical ups and downs trading for the sake of making profits on
money produces one thing and that is Profits and profits are highly
inflationary to the rest of our economy, look at the housing bubble and that is
the results. Inflation from moderate wage increases support and prop up our
economy by allotting more money to be plowed back into our economy and this
hardly impacts Inflation. Rapid Inflation from huge unrealistic Profits is no
different than theft, graft and corruption. It is so excessively upside down
that it actually smothers the remainder of the same system we all need to
    survive and prosper.
The profits in Wall Street have been so enormous an unrealistic it has been
sucking the life out of our economy for a long time. It’s appetite for money is
more than our system can process.
Our Government needs to print enough money to get us out from under this
predicament and study, identify and correct all inflationary factors and who
and what is causing Inflation and legislate to see it never gets us to where we
are today ever again. We owe this to all of our kids.
People with personal agendas should not be allowed to participate in correcting
    this problem.

Disaster Aid is the highest form of INFLATION next to
today’s High Stakes Casino in Wall Street.

Our Fore Fathers would not only honor the debt, they
would be there bodily to help with repairs.

Per person Social Security is the most worthy
productive program on the face of the earth. It supports millions upon millions,
these people support the economy by re-circulating this money continually
growing and supporting the economy and it was actually money form an insurance
program. Compare this to your tax dollars paying $60,000 per year to keep
prisoners in prison, which is $5,000 per month, 5 times what Social Security
recipients’ receive per month. Republicans have nothing to compare Social
Security to when it comes to any program which benefits our economy coming and
going, it is a good and decent recirculation of money moving in every
    direction.

Wall Street falls short of being decent, sound, steady
and non-inflationary as Wall Street is in its present form. They say workers
wages are INFLATIONARY and they moderately are inflationary and were recognized
it as such when John Maynard Keynes, the Father of Keynesian Economics,
explained how Capitalism could not survive without moderate inflation from time,
use and the elements. To understand this time, use and the elements situation
better; “Line up 5,000 empty 6 oz. glasses in a single row, now take the first
glass and fill it with water, now take the first glass which is filled with
water and continually dump it into the nest glass and keep doing that until you
run out of water. That is where we are in our economy today.  We need more water like our economy needs
more money. Those who say printing money is inflationary are wrong. Loss of
money through radical profits like Wall Street produces , theft, graft and
corruption through which many business push deals onto our Government Treasury
and it is criminal and proving John Maynard Keynes to be right on target with
    accuracy.

    Wall Street’s
radical ups and downs trading for the sake of making profits on money produces
one thing and that is Profits and profits are highly inflationary to the rest
of our economy, look at the housing bubble and that is the results. Inflation
from moderate wage increases support and prop up our economy by allotting more money
to be plowed back into our economy and this hardly impacts Inflation. Rapid
Inflation from huge unrealistic Profits is no different than theft, graft and
corruption. It is so excessively upside down that it actually smothers the
remainder of the same system we all need to survive and prosper.

Whether Walsh is a deadbeat or not is for the judge in his divorce to decide. When we hear from the bench, be sure to let us know. Until then, we have the word of his wife’s lawyer. Which is about as credible as Larry Sinclair, IYKWIMAITYD.

Perhaps you have not been glancing Mediaite — his “kooky” views get plenty of play there, and elsewhere.

In any event, the point of the story dealt with a black president being protected by the media because he was black. So, along that vein, my point is “Hermain Cain wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance” because of his non-liberal views (“kooky” or otherwise). Capice?

Personally, I have a lot of respect for community organizers because I actually know what the job entails (unlike most of the people who attack Obama).

Meanwhile, what did Sarah Palin accomplish?  She was the mayor of a tiny town in Alaska (I’ve been there, it’s very small)….and what did she accomplish (other than picking a fight with the local library about books)?

Oh yeah, and she was governor of a state with more caribou in it than people…for just over 2 years.

Meanwhile, Obama was both a state senator (for 8 years) and a US Senator (for the same amount of time that Palin was governor.)…winning statewide office in one of the largest states in the country.

In both cases, Obama represented more people than Sarah Palin did in all of her offices combined.

    Your dog doesn’t hunt.

You can critcize Obama for many things…but saying he’s less experienced than Sarah Palin is ludicrous.

I don’t agree.  If Herman Cain had been the first major black nominee for president, the media would done the same thing.  He’s charismatic, likeable, good on TV, etc.  The story of the “first” anything for president is pretty compelling, regardless of party.

It’s not about whether Cain is conservative.  For example, George W Bush got lots of positive coverage during his first campaign….while the media was mocking Al Gore for his clothes, his “stiffness”, the internet, etc.   But, simply put, Bush was more entertaining to cover. You could “have a beer with him”.

The media’s main bias is for sensationalism and entertaining stories.

  • http://www.thecobraslair.com Cobra

First, you need a precedent to say that the media protects Black President since we’re only 21/2 years into the first one in history.  Second, Conservatives on this blog seem to have a limited view of what “media” is.

Television & Cable–Fox News “protects” Obama?
Radio–Are you kidding me? Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Ingraham, Savage, Levin, and damn near every right wing talk show host “protects” Obama?
Newspapers & Magazines–Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, NY Post, Boston Herald, Weekly Standard, National Review…”protects” Obama?  Hell, even the professional left at “The Nation” criticizes him.

This is just more whining from a White Male Power Structure that feels emasculated when somebody non-White and sworn to the RNC gets somewhere.

    Pathetic.

My comment goes to Reid and not the president.  Negro is an dated word and pretty much considered to be unacceptable in conversation today.  I absolutely understand your comment about culture and age as my mother in her 80′s does not understand that these words are appropriate in today’s world.  Having said that Harry Reid is a world leader and cannot be excused as easily as can be my mother.

The words negro and colored are conduits back to the sixties and a time that the black community was fighting for equal respect which honestly they were not afforded in this country.  So no…  Obama is not a proud Negro, but rather he is a proud Black man, and in his case African American may be even more fitting, but he is not a Negro, nor is he colored..  If you don’t see my reasoning in this just ask a young to middle aged black person for their perspective.

Standard’s and Poor released three statements and you appear not to read or head the third.  To paraphrase what they wrote, Whenever there are congressmen willing to let the country go into default on their loans instead of meeting their obligations, there is a higher risk for default.  I think it is pretty clear who they are refering to.

Look up their third statement for yourself and I believe there will be no misunderstanding on your part for who is responsible.

See?  The Tea Party being willing to go so far as to allow our country to go into default on our loans has a cost,

A triangulating, Democrat president willing to compromise to salvage his presidency after being reigned in for the last 6 years of his administration (the first two of which were typical hands-over-fist spending – look it up) by a congress controlled by a dedicated opposition of fiscally-disciplined Republicans is far, FAR preferable to what we have today

Paleoconservatarian, your totally wrong or misinformed and I’ll stick 100% to what I said.  I asked you to go back and look up the third statement Standard’s and Poor sent out since you seemed not to know anything about it.  I found out a long time ago there is no reason in arguing with an ignorant individual, especially who refuses to look up with the facts.  Again, why do you think the Tea Party got what they got at the last minute. Are you also not familiar with Norquest and his pledge?  If they weren’t advocating for default, they wouldn’t have had the power or the recognition they had.  You may falsely believe I’m a liar, but your just plain ignorant, don’t know the history like you think you do, and not worth anymore of my time.

The civil rights act was first brought before President Eisenhower and was stopped in the Senate by a Lyndon Johnson. Wonder if that was the same Lyndon Johnson who first vetoed it when it came across his desk as President. Nah! That’s probably just a coincidence. That same civil rights act was opposed by Al Gore Sr. and filibustered by Robert Byrd. We can play this game all day.

I think the best way to judge whose ideas are best for is to judge them by the results once they have been implemented. Beginning in the ’60s, Democrats chose to implement massive social programs which included housing, welfare and health care. The city has been run by Democrats now for 50 years. What are the results? Many houses there cost only a few hundred dollars. Nearly 80% of the commercial real estate is vacant. Much of the city has been bulldozed and reclaimed by nature and they now have a problem with urban bears. The population of the city has decreased by about 60%. This is not evidence that blacks should vote only for conservatives (although I believe everyone should since conservative ideas actually work). It is, however, evidence that Democrats take the black vote for granted and that they would be better represented if they had a presence in both parties so every candidate had to compete for their votes.

As it stands now, if an outside, objective observer with no skin in the game had to make a judgment over which was the party of racists – if he looked at which party was paying black people to stay poor and uneducated, living in crappy, violent neighborhoods and raising their children without fathers and compared that to which party supports small business entrepreneurship, the nuclear family, independence, law enforcement and personal responsibility and wants these things for all people – I think the choice would be clear.

Dwight Eisenhower was a MODERATE Republican who had a 90% tax rate on the rich, integrated the US Military, warned against the industrial-military complex and spent money on infrastructure so much that the Interstate Highway system bears his name.  Dwight Eisenhower was NOT a “White Conservative.”  NOT.

At least that’s a link.  Unfortunately, it’s one to Ron Paul, gold bug that he is, making one of his points about how the country needs to go back to the gold standard – or “sound financial footing” as he puts it here – regardless of consequences.  One big reason why such an otherwise decent guy with some good, principled views on the constitution won’t pull more than a few percentage points.  It’s not happening.

One thing your link fails to do, however, is lend credence to M_Baker’s characterizations and statements.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1497076194 Travis Pierson

I should have been more clear. President Eisenhower never GOT the Civil Rights Act precisely because Lyndon Johnson stopped it in the Senate. Ike said he would have signed it. In ’62, it was passed with massive, bipartisan support but President Johnson vetoed it once and threatened to veto it the second time. It wasn’t until the massive buyoff of “uppity negro” (his words, not mine) votes (known as the Great Society) was passed that he signed the Civil Rights legislation into law.

If Eisenhower was a moderate (I’d call him a leftist) Republican, Kennedy was a conservative Democrat. JFK, after all, governed to the right of that neo-con wingnut, George W Bush. Again, we could play this game all day long. In the end, it’s the results that matter.

During the Eisenhower administration, federal tax revenues were about 18% of GDP, same as under every administration for as long as anyone has kept track. Kennedy cut taxes and the economy grew at a greater pace than it did during the prior 2 decades.
