Glenn Beck Even Boosts Sales For “Evil” Books

Earlier this week Glenn Beck gave a ringing endorsement of A Patriot’s History of the United States – and subsequently boosted it to #1 on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

Well, on Wednesday he described “quite possibly the most evil thing I’ve ever read,” and guess what, the thing is flying off the shelf!

The book is The Coming Insurrection, and it was first published in 2007. It was written by “The Invisible Committee,” which sound like the bad guys in “Tea Party: The Movie.”

Here’s how Beck introduced the book during Wednesday’s show (he had mentioned it a few months ago as well), while holding it up:

I told you last summer read this book. It’s The Coming Insurrection. It’s by the Invisible Committee. This is quite possibly the most evil thing I’ve ever read and it’s about to play out in streets of Greece. It’s been played out in France. The story is written by 12 people. Some of them are in jail now over in Europe. They’re actual communists. They’ve been masquerading as democratic socialists.

And now the numbers. At the time he mentioned the book (5:13pmET on February 10), the edition of the book Beck held up was ranked #432 at Amazon and #20,609 at BN. 24 hours later, the book had moved up to #7 at Amazon and #14 at BN.

Right now it’s holding strong at 7 on Amazon and has slipped to 54 on BN, but still, you know, 20,500 more than it was before. By the way, the Amazon blurbs include a quote from Glenn Beck: “I am not calling for a ban on this book. It’s important that you read this book.”

Glynnis has made the case that Beck is the next Oprah. Even the “evil” books that get mentioned by Beck are graced with the Beck Bump.

Here’s the clip from Wednesday (Beck starts talking about the book toward the end):

Beck’s ignorance about politics and current events in Europe is stunning. Yet, so many of the Beckites lap this up without a critical thought about it.

    “Beckites”

I prefer to call these sheep-like idiots “beckerheads”.

What’s really stunning is that “The Royal King” and “same2u” get up early just to fulminate on anything and everything Glenn Beck. That in and of itself displays just how important Mr. Beck has become.

Just goes to show you how much of a thirst for hate, and something to hate is out there…Sad truly, sad

    “Beckerheads”

    I like that.

Jim, you need to understand that this is not early for me. After W wrecked the US economy, I had to build up business in Europe and the Pacific Rim. I am at my desk at 02:00 hours for the Europeans. U am back at my desk at 19:00 hours for the Asian market. I can take care of what US business there is during a few moments around 11:00 hours. The rest of the time, I can try to win adherents to the side of the angels.

Dear Real Royal King, just speaking for myself, I find my days go better if I leave everything MSNBC alone. I don’t like or respect them, and it doesn’t bother me of you do. It’s all good. I think this site thrives on bringing out the worst in people and I don’t want to give in to it. Why am I here posting something? An old habit, but I do think I’d be netter off leaving Mediaite alone.

    JimW,

Given you are clearly only interested in the comments rather than the articles posted by the hardworking Mediate contributors, maybe you should move on..

I have a hard time finding Beck to be ignorant when he actually does copious research and consults with experts in various fields to get information on the subjects he is covering. He regularly turns to historians, economists, and other members of industries to get information and verify his findings. I know it is customary to call him a wing-nut and an idiot when you cannot refute his findings but the man does his legwork, more so than most “legitimate” members of the media.

Thank you for providing so many examples. It really firms up your argument.

I ordered a copy of it myself when I heard Beck talking about it.

Very true. Sometimes a person discoveres a new idea, can’t put it down, and can’t help talking about it all the time. With Beck that topic is the origins of the progressive movement. I just enjoy going along for the ride.

Having said that “A Patriot’s History” seems like one of the worst of the books he has recommended. Even the friendly reviews are scathing; apparently it could have used a fact checker or ten.
