Jon Stewart Attacks Mediaite (And Other, Far Less Significant Websites)

video

Last night, Jon Stewart trained his sights on the blogosphere, mocking the over-the-top headlines that you, dear reader, seem to want to click. I know! What a jerk, right? He totally doesn’t get it. (I heard he’s not really a dude) Anyway, he showed a Mediaite headline amongst nearly every other blog that covers The Daily Show. Our lawyers will be contacting him shortly because of copyright infringement.

He is correct though in his statement. Mediaite has been using strong opinion statements. While I personally agree with many of the statements that you provide, many of them are not fair.

LOL! That was too flippin funny. I loved the *how does she get away with it, maybe because it is on msnbc and there are no witnesses* line. HAHA

So so funny. But true. I have clicked on so many headlines, here, and all over, and the story just doesn’t hold up to the headline. But, I understand the need to draw the peeps in with a flashy headline. The problem is though, a lot of people don’t actually read the story, and base their *knowledge* on the headline alone…

Contrary to what “The Daily Show” faithful believe, Stewarts’ primary goal in life (not unlike most late 40′ish kind of guys) is not to win the hearts and minds of those that disagree with him politically, but rather to make a living, provide for his family and further his chosen career. It’s great to have a job that allows you the freedom to wear your political and sociological beliefs on your sleeve.

His show (like any other) revolves around maintaining audience, advertisers and ratings. Having roughly 1 to 1.5 million viewers a night, it’s a success, yet a beast that needs to be fed by attracting & maintaining audience share. Hence the O’Reilly interviews from time to time. It’s a business people. It behooves them both to appear once in a while in each others venue, again not to win hearts and minds, but viewers.

I agree with Marcus.lewis in that the headlines have been a little over the top. But methinks they’ve accomplished the goal and nobody at Mediaite is complaining about the publicity Stewart has given you.

Am I right in assuming that John will not be paying for the first round of drinks tonight?

Yesterday, I made Stewart’s same point on some of the headlines about he and about Glenn Beck.

    Except I called them “crap”.

Mediaite’s delusion of grandeur: “Jon Stewart Attacks Mediaite (And Other, Far Less Significant Websites).” What a joke.

JimW, let me introduce you to sarcasm.

Really you’re going to sue him? Really?

Joh Stewart? Who the hell is Jon Stewart?

That segment was hilarious. Of course, as a few others have already pointed out, Stewart is totally right on this, especially when it comes to Mediaite. Some of the headlines I’ve read here are eye-roll worthy in their over-the-topness, every now and then going so far as to be blatantly misleading.
