Politico Reports Herman Cain Accuser Was Paid $45,000 By National Restaurant Association

Politico‘s Jonathan Martin reports that one of the women accusing Herman Cain of sexual harassment received a settlement of approximately $45,000, which is “significantly more than the two or three months’ salary Cain initially recalled the woman obtained.”

Martin, who was one of the original journalists to break the story initially and sparred with Cain outside the studio of CBS’ Face The Nation on Sunday, reported:

The compensation the woman received as part of her departure package was far more than that what a mid-level trade association employee in the late 1990s would have made over a two-to-three month period.

It was also more than the payout a second association employee received after complaining about Cain’s behavior. According to the New York Times, the second woman received $35,000 – a year’s pay.

As Martin mentions in his piece, Cain earlier said in an interview with Greta Van Susteren that he estimated the pay out to be “three months’ salary,” but was “not entirely sure.”

Did Herman Cain pay her? Is that what you are saying?

  • Anonymous

Thanks for the correction, where is the note that you made a correction?

  • Anonymous

She got $45 thousand? Hey, maybe we can all benefit from Cain’s 69-9 at 9 plan.

  • Harry Flashman

So…let me try to understand this.

She got forty five grand, and the other got thrty five. Okay. Got that. And, now I’m reading elsewhere that she wants to give a “statement”.

That’s the part I’m having a bit of trouble with.

If the question here is about Cain’s character, shouldn’t someone be questioning the character of a woman who takes forty five grand as part of an agreement, then decides to destroy the man anyway? Is someone paying her this time?

Maybe it’s just me, but that smacks of rank opportunism and makes me think that it was just that from day one.

Herman Cain said this is all about race.. and he is right. He only sexually harasses white women. He respects black women and married one. White men should be embarrassed how they sell out their mothers and daughters while Cain fund-raises off their harassment.

Politico has been right on 100% of the facts from day one, through all of Cains different denials and accusations.

    Herbie owes Politico an apology.

When are Republicans going to start standing up and saying aloud what is now painfully obvious to anyone with a brain: that Cain is not qualified to be considered the nominee? He may be a charming, affable guy, may have an interesting personal story and may be good at running a pizza company, but clearly he is not up to the challenges required as leader of the free world. He has a miserable economic plan that even he can’t defend, is proud of his ignorance of hard-to-pronounce countries, thinks it’s funny to joke about electrocuting Mexicans and, when faced with his first real test as a leader, fumbled it very badly.

We know that the party was willing to look the other way and pretend that Palin wasn’t a total fool, but that lead to a massive landslide defeat. Are you guys really looking to have your heads handed to you again? If so, it sounds like you’ve met your Mr. Right.

Barack Obama gave his second statement on the Fort Hood massacre, and
this one went better than his first. He cautioned Americans to let
law-enforcement agencies do their job in investigating the 13 murders
apparently committed by Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan and to avoid “jumping to conclusions” based on incomplete data.

  • Harry Flashman

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve read in a while.

  • Longdongsilver999

Perverted! Herman Cain is cool with me.

Politico did not report on any allegations, the only reported provable facts, that Herbie was involved in 2 sexual harassment charges that resulted in settlements for the women.

    These.  Are.  Facts.

  • Texan

The one that lawyered up has said she has no desire to come forward saying she doesn’t want to become the next “anita hill.”

“shouldn’t someone be questioning the character of a woman who takes forty five grand as part of an agreement, then decides to destroy the man anyway?”

This woman didn’t invite this unwanted attention. It sounds like she was quite happy to live her life without ever having contact with Cain again. It was only when he publicly started to deny and belittle her claims that she indicated any interest in providing her side of the story. That hardly sounds like someone bent on “destroying” another person.

  • Anonymous

She didn’t come forward looking for money or to break a story. She was unwillingly outed through the story being released. You are behind. Catch up.

  • Harry Flashman

If her name wasn’t released, how was she “outed”?

C’mon…her attorneys are doing the Snoopy dance over this. Seen one of the interviews? Again, why would she need to “make a statement” if she just wants to live in peace and harmony?

    There. All caught up.

  • kromecom

It was shut up money from the organization of which he was the titular head (go and look up “titular” and stop giggling you idiot). Dumb aren’t you?

Cain vs. Obama in 2012!  I’ll get the popcorn ready, and even share some, just please nominate him, GOP. Do the right thing for your country.

maybe she doesn’t like being called a liar by Cain or smeared by the right nuts.
cain spoke defamed her -only just that she gets a chance to rebut.
If cain wanted to fight this he had a chance 15 years ago and declined

the accused hasnt been out to destroy cain cain can do that all by himself.

So what was the payment Clinton made to Jones for?

    Reminder… he paid $850,000.

  • Anonymous

Think of what you could make under Clinton’s plan that paid out $850,000.

  • Anonymous

Then Clinton owes a lot of women he called liars an apology. And Hillary own everyone who identifies as “right wing” an apology.

  • Hang_the_DJ

Well, next time a Clinton runs for POTUS you can tell them that.

  • Mr. Pennypacker

It looks like Cain might have to step down.  I think we may have to recruit a new set of candidates.  I hope we can push Rubio into the race.

45K is much cheaper than litigating a false accusation!!

If this woman was raped or sexually harassed she would never have settled for such  tiny amount!!

    Nothing but a political assassination!!

This guy is OBSESSED with Clinton. It’s a bit pathological.

Ok, my main gripe about this article is that I don’t like Jonathan Martin any more ever since he went on MSNBC all proud of himself for breaking this story. Get over yourself, man!

The volumes of proof Politico presented is over whelming. These women, if they exist appear to be getting the John & Elizabeth EdwardsBill & Hill cheater/liar media coverup package.
    A steam roller is coming… It’s you, it’s me and there’s dancing

They will not, because they had so much invested in him.

It would require admitting that they got it spectacularly wrong. Herman Cain is basically now a huge embarrassment, their own embarrassment and one that they wish would disappear.

He is no longer a source of pride. No longer a legitimate battering ram to use against President Obama, to suggest it’s the fault of Liberals or Lame Stream Media.

In fact admitting fault is unforgivable and just too much…

  • Anonymous

Yes you are absolutely correct. But what does that mean? They settled because Cain was guilty? They settled because they didn’t want the publicity? What form of harassment? Calling them “honey”? Telling them or implying that their job is in jeopardy if they don’t give sexual favors? Until that is clarified it is nothing more than gossip. So far Cain is an upstanding and accomplished man and many cases of harassment are baseless cases brought by woman who happened to get called a PC appointed name that didn’t mean the same thing to the man using it as the woman it was directed toward. I still favor Cain as Obama’s WH is full of sexist men and the woman are left out as told to us by one of Obama’s own. Evidence suggest to me Obama is a proven sexist while the evidence on Cain is still iffy. Romney appears to me as one who would go to a mens club and exclude woman as well and he is a career politician who will say anything to get elected. Unless it comes out that the harassment charges were more than just some sexist remarks I will take the sexist Cain before Obama or Romney. Lets hope the truth comes out soon.

Everyone has a skelton or two in their closet and the more power you have the bigger the closet. Take a look at Clinton’s closet, but he is a democrat so that makes it OK.

  • ceeza

err Mrs. Hoochie Coochie if I may.. You do realize that we are not in the year 1992 anymore correctt?

  • Texan

There’s more evidence that obama paid his mistress to leave the country and set her up with a cushy job then there is evidence that Cain did anything wrong. That’s the funny part.

  • Anonymous

Of course not.  Also, they’re not saying that at all, if you didn’t notice.  But in withhold from the story the fact of who’s making the payouts (Cain maintains its the organization that reached agreement with the claimant), the salaciousness of the charge takes on greater scope.

Oh wait.  I just saw your note below.  Did Mediaite originally report that Cain made the payouts, excised that portion and not correct it?  LOL. Just the other day they changed the title of a slander peice on Cain (out of context quote regarding China’s nuclear capabilities) and switched it from straight news to op-ed without comment as well.

Mediaite – If you would, how ’bout following fundimental journalistic procedures, please.

  • Texan

did you realize before you made that idiotic comment that these allegations that Cain is fighting happened over 20 yrs ago?

  • Anonymous

You think the country voted against Palin.

    Thus your analysis.

  • Darr247

1999 was not 20 years ago, Tex.
