President Bush’s Daughter Barbara “Glad” Health Care Reform Passed

video

Even when he was in office one frequently got the sense that the best thing about former President George W. Bush was his wife and daughters. Recently former First Lady Laura Bush made some headlines after declaring her support for Elena Kagan, President Obama’s choice for SCOTUS. And now their daughter Barbara — normally the quieter of the twins — has gone on record supporting health care reform.

Why do people with money have good health care and people with lower salaries not have good health care? Health should be a right for everyone.

Bush is the founder and president of Global Health Corps, an organization which promotes global health equity in the U.S. and abroad and before you think she is on a Obama taking points mission she apparently got inspired to get in this line of work after traveling in Africa with her parents. However, when pressed by Chris Wallace on what she thinks of Obama’s health care she (very smoothly) conceded she was glad that it had passed. Alas, the Bush juniors have no plans to get into politics. Watch below.

Glynnis, you’re busy today. Do you think you will have time to do a piece on Jerry Brown calling Fiorina a nazi? I mean you had time to extensively talk about her hair comment.

and ps, just to remind you, Bush isn’t president anymore. Heaven forbid if those around him excerise their God-given free agency to decide for themselves what they believe.

  • shootfromthehip

This is why the GOP is doomed. Gen Y is socially liberal. They probably tell their parents they voted for a Republican but secretly voted for the more progressive candidate.

If the GOP leadership was smart, they would run more socially conservative candidates that are fiscally conservative. Instead, they cower in fear of Rush Limbaugh purity tests and run increasingly out of touch backwards looking neanderthals.

Americans have already moved on, and will continue become more socially progressive such as (quelle horreur!) European countries such as France.

I’m glad Barbara understands that health care reform was needed, and that Obama rightly championed it.

Too bad her daddy and the GOP-led Congress did nothing to reform health care in 6 out of the 8 years they ran the country,

  • shootfromthehip

If the GOP was smart they’d run more socially liberal candidates, I meant….

  • C0nstant

so what is the take away here? you proving the point that we arent all brainwashed and in lockstep with each other? are you sure thats the narrative you want glynnis?

  • C0nstant

    shoot,

“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has no heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.”

  • AngelPeters

Go, Barbara! You seem to take after your mother a great deal.

It’s so kind of you to take an interest in the well-being of the GOP. And C0nstant, I love that quote. I guess I had no heart, since I’ve always been conservative. Like my bumper sticker says, “raised Republican, I can take care of myself, thanks!”

Young Barbara is the daughter of two luke-warm conservatives, she’s been coddled and had everything handed to her since the day after she was born.

Why would anyone expect anything else?

  • AngelPeters

True. Bush was known to be a far more moderate conservative when he was Gov. of TX.

  • lonestar77

Thanks Glynnis. I’ve been dying to know Barb Bush’s thoughts on healthcare.

If a candidate in Cali calls another one a nazi, be sure & let me know…unless of course, the nazi reference comes from a liberal, then just go ahead and pretend like it never happened. Ok, thanks!

She’s doing her best to ignore it. Let’s see how long she can keep it up. About now, she is saying, “if I print it now, it will look like I just bowed to the pressure. On the other hand, if I don’t do a story on it, it will further the argument that I am a partisan hack!”. Oh the life of a mediaite blogger.

You are a stupid man, after Obowma won the election dumb (asses) like Joe Scab Borrow were saying the same, and then this past year the Tea Party and Conservatives became more popular and won primaries . You are not a bright human .

  • BR

Wow! The Bush’s raised their children to think for themselves and form their own opinions? What a concept. If the liberals & leftists would do the same, things would not be so partisan.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

Sort of like you misusing the word OPINE and instead of admitting you were wrong you use it everywhere like a child who makes a mistake and then says, “I did that on purpose!”

  • me1ranger

Hey hip..I thought I told you to drop the violent beginning to your name! Don’t make me hunt you down..peacenik punk-ass. I think mediaite needs to ban you with all that talk of shooting..You’re not very popular here boy..why don’t you take a hike? We’re watching you..

How much attention did Faux News give to this? Can anyone imagine what the Conservatives would be saying if Obama’s daughter said it was unfortunate Health care passed?

@MichelleF: “and ps, just to remind you, Bush isn’t president anymore. Heaven forbid if those around him excerise their God-given free agency to decide for themselves what they believe.”

At what point did she say that they don’t have that right? The younger Barbara Bush is the daughter of a former president of the United States and her opinions are newsworthy if she chooses to make them public. Remember, Barbara may be the quieter of the Bush daughters, but Jenna has always pointedly avoided making her political opinions public, so this is a “first” in a way. I didn’t know anything about their politics before (still don’t know anything about Jenna’s) and I have always thought they were terrific girls because of their work. I was a fan before I read this and I still am. Not everybody on the left is evil.

I agree that if they don’t cover the “Nazi” comment that it would be a serious oversight, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with this article. There isn’t. If anything, it’s biased because it’s so complimentary.

    Shootfromthehip,

The main thing holding this country back is the 3Gs crowd. That is the guns, gays and God crowd.

And that crowd includes a person on this board who is part of Warren Jeff’s harem of wives in Utah.

viet: thats not likely to happen. Liberal parents (make that all liberals) force their views on their children so the chances of children of leftists having anything other than a liberal views is zero to none. You know that.

  • timzank

Well, it’s not at all unusual for our children to disappoint us. Sometimes they grow out of the fog, sometimes they don’t. Ms. Bush probably won’t because she will never be exposed to living at the same economic level as the rest of us. That makes the “everybody deserves everything at taxpayer expense” much easier to preach when you never have to pay for anything yourself.

  • stoogedudes

Well since the Bush’s are not conservative enough for some on here, I think it’s fair to make the same type of blanket statement BR made about liberals towards conservatives, yes?

  • The Real Royal King

Does this make BB a RINO?

  • stoogedudes

    Well, DUH

Actually,it also made her a SOCIALIST, COMMUNIST, FASCIST, RACIST, MARXIST LEFTIST HATEMONGER WHO EATS PUPPIES FOR BREAKFAST AND BABIES FOR DINNER!!!!!!!

And because cons like to link Obama to whoever the hell they feel like linking him to…that makes George W. Bush A SOCIALIST, COMMUNIST, FASCIST, RACIST, MARXIST LEFTIST HATEMONGER WHO EATS PUPPIES FOR BREAKFAST AND BABIES FOR DINNER by association.

  • NOTcrazylikeFOX

Why is MichelleF complaining about Jerry Brown on a topic about George Bush’s daughter? Stay on topic, Mish.

  • NOTcrazylikeFOX

By the way, MichelleF should probably work on her facts a little bit more, seeing as how Brown compared (didn’t label) Meg Whitman, not Fiorina, a Nazi.

It’s safe to say that, at least, Ms. MacNicol can report stories correctly, whereas commenters, like Michelle F, choose to fudge the facts, or they’re just too lazy to repeat the real facts.

To put it in terms you can relate to, we are the grown ups, we don’t need politicians or the government to wipe our asses and pat us on the forehead like you guys do.

Yeah because growing up in South Carolina being forced to attend big invisible man cult worship for 15 years of my life is my Conservative nut job parents “not forcing their views on me”…..

  • MichelleF

Jackie, did you forget to take your meds today? Perhaps you should seek therapy for your hatred of our parents.

Hey “Me1Ranger” my name, Shoot From the Hip, has nothing to do with guns, unless yiu take it literally, which few do.

    It is an idiomatic expression.

Everyone in America knows this, except you, apparently.

“this past year the Tea Party and Conservatives became more popular and won primaries .”

No incumbent Dem has lost a primary this year. One Dem will face a runoff.

“raised Republican, I can take care of myself, thanks!”….”

    Even if you suffer a major illness . . . or protracted unemployment . . . or a fire . . . or a robbery . . . or a flood . . . or a pothole right past the end of your driveway?

“we don’t need politicians or the government to wipe our asses and pat us on the forehead like you guys do.”

The libs know which end to wipe. Some righties kinda make you wonder.

“Liberal parents (make that all liberals) force their views on their children so the chances of children of leftists having anything other than a liberal views is zero to none.”

“did you forget to take your meds today? Perhaps you should seek therapy for your hatred of our parents.”

Why do righties consistently diverge from the matter at hand? Unable to justify often shaky positions, they resort to insults and divisiveness. Though lefties do it, too, it seems far more prevalent from the right – more so from the neocon right.

AAAh Spoken like a good little Progressive. I’m sure her father. The one that was all about “The new world order” is proud! So you see there is no difference at all between Republicans, and Democrats. Both party’s suffer from this infestation….LOL

  • Chris R

Hmmmm, now that it’s been given the blessing of Bush’s drunken daughter, I guess I’ll have to think twice about my skepticism of the bill. Thanks, mediate, for opening my eyes.
