Rachel Maddow Takes Out Full-Page Ad To Declare Non-Campaign Against Scott Brown

snap!

Think Scott Brown is regretting his imaginary campaign against Rachel Maddow yet? Maddow has been on a rampage these past few nights after discovering that Brown had not only not rescinded his initial fund-raising email declaring her his opponent, but had refused to acknowledge the falseness of it during a talk radio (or even bothered to call her to confirm it in the first place). All this after Maddow spent a segment of the show denying she had any intention of running for office….ever.

Last night Maddow unveiled her anti-Maddow campaign ad to aid Brown in his “fake campaign” and then followed it up this morning by running a full page ad in the Boston Globe to reconfirm she’s still not running. One two SNAP.

Here’s the thing about the letter, though, it’s more political than funny. Actually, there’s one or two grafs (the 5th and 6th to be exact) in there that, dare we say it, sound a teeny bit platformy. I know Rachel Maddow is not running for office. Not not not. However, if she ever deep, deep down wanted to test the waters this would certainly be a grand way to do so. Meanwhile, how long till the Maddow, Brown sitdown interview? I think he may have painted himself into a bit of a corner here. Text of the letter below.

“Hi, I’m Rachel Maddow. I host a TV show on MSNBC. I also live in Western Massachusetts, in the beautiful hilltowns of Hampshire County.

“This week, our new U.S. Senator, Scott Brown, sent a fundraising letter that says I’m running against him for Senate when he’s up for re-election in 2012.

“I’m not running against Scott Brown. I never said I was running against Scott Brown. The Massachusetts Democratic Party never asked me to run against Scott Brown. It’s just not true. Honestly. I swear. No, really.

“Senator Brown never even tried to find out if it was true, before using the made-up threat of me running against him, to try to scare donors into giving him more money. He sent the letter all around the country, to the out-of-state conservative activists who provided so much of the funding for his successful Senate campaign.

“Do you remember when Mitt Romney ran for President after being our Governor and he went around the country insulting Massachusetts, talking about what an awful state we are? To have our new Senator raising money around the country by saying how terrible one of his Massachusetts constituents is, kind of feels the same way to me.

“It’s standard now for conservatives to invent scary fake threats to run against — things like the made-up ‘death panels’ in health reform, or the fake controversy about the president’s birth certificate. Senator Scott Brown’s only been in DC seven weeks, but he already seems to be fitting right in with how conservatives operate there.

“I’m running this ad not because I’m running against Scott Brown — I’m not, he made that up — but because he’s the Senator for all of us, and maybe this will make him think twice the next time he wants to smear one of his constituents to raise money out-of-state.

“My show airs at 9PM Eastern in Massachusetts on MSNBC. So far, Scott Brown refuses to come on. Maybe he’ll change his mind — I hope he does.

“Sincerely,

“Rachel Maddow”

No, Brown is not regretting it.

  • The Real Royal King

Maybe Rachel is just stinging because Scott Brown stopped HCR dead in its tracks.

  • valkyrie101

    tyler,
Why would Brown regret it, unless his fundraising campaign was not successful? Indeed, Rachel has probably increased his fundraising in that regard by publicizing it. But now Rachel is using Brown in the same way to spread her own image. Funny how that works. LOL

Watching Mr. Maddow is more painful than getting a root canal.

Reading about her is as exciting as watching paint peel.

So who cares what she has to say?

  • felixw

Methinks the lady doth protest too much!

  • autobahn

Since Olbermann spent a month bashing Carrie Prejean for voicing the same opinion as Obama on gay marriage, you do have to give MSNBC credit for tenacity.

The fact that Maddow gets you conservative’s dander up is a sure sign that she is more influencial than her modest ratings would otherwise indicate. Though, her appearances on Meet the Press have garnered very good ratings, and her performances there have gotten good reviews too. I think she does a good job on the progressive side. I can understand not liking her politics if you are conservative, though. I loved her reports on all the behind the scenes money from the health care and insurance corporations, including the get rich off the tea party lobbyist Dick Armey group, funding all those “spontaneous” tea party demonstrations. And who would really know about those randy little C-Street boys and the religious group, the Family, that seeks to control our governement officials behind the scenes, without Rachel’s highlighting of that?

I have never seen or heard oof Rachel MAddow

  • MichelleF

I think it’s time Scott took out a restraining order!

Bessie, you haven’t heard of her because no one watches MSNBC.

  • writer

Isn’t Mad Dow the trouble they were having with beef in Britain?

  • valkyrie101

Well, Bessie, you probably are among the 299.5 million people or so who don’t watch her. :-) On the other hand, I assume you watch FOX so you are among the 1% of the population that shares that pleasure.

  • writer

Wow, if Fox only gets 1%, MSNBC must really be in the toilet.

  • valkyrie101

I suppose being in the toilet is a relative term when you are talking about 1% or .2% :-) Honestly, I appreciate FOX, because collectively, the media is more progressive than not, and to have proper collective balance, which I think is important, we need FOX to be the jugernaut that it is.

Is Rachel trying out for Stewart job on Comedy Central. Why would she otherwise do something so foolish. Her ego is bigger than the full page of the Globe, which no one reads. This is a comedy.

  • tigerprez

With so much death and suffering in the world, this seems like the best possible use for the money needed to buy a full page ad. Good for you, Rachel! Screw those Haitians!!! We’ll always know your heart is in the right place.

  • valkyrie101

    silk,
Why should Maddow play as Brown’s fool? You object to her rebutting Brown, but you make no comment about Brown using the strawman of Maddow running against him as a fundraising ploy. True ethics, or legitimate contempt, are not politically based.

    tiger,
What a silly argument. A person who is being used by a politician as a fundraising prop defends herself, and now that indicates she does not care for the poor? Consider Limbaugh, the thirty to fifty million dollar per year man, who expressly told his audience to not send money to Haiti. Does that offend you too, tiger?

  • timzank

Did she or MSNBC pay for the full page ad?

  • timzank

valk..”Consider Limbaugh, the thirty to fifty million dollar per year man, who expressly told his audience to not send money to Haiti.” In the words of joe Wilson “You Lie”….He never said that, don’t lie it cheapens your argument.
