RNC Chairman Michael Steele Lacks Support, Likely To Be Toast
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele enjoyed a rocky tenure leading the RNC, yet the fun is likely to be over very soon. Politico reports that Steele “faces an all-but-impossible path to reelection this month, as a majority of the RNC’s 168 members indicate that they will not support the controversial chairman for another term.”
The job of Chairman requires the officeholder raise a lot of money and essentially “do no harm” with their public statements, and critics have long felt that Steele inadequately performed both tasks. Regarding his likely replacement, one of the RNC members not supporting Steele shared with Politico a blunt concern, “if you’re going replace an African-American chairman, you better look for something more unique than a white man from the Midwest.”
