Russian Citizens Don’t Trust Western Media on Ukraine
An overwhelming majority of Russians, 76 percent, believe their state-run media is producing the most reliable information regarding the ongoing tension between their country and Ukraine, according to a new Gallup poll.
Only 5 percent of Russians said Western media is reliable on the issue.
The poll’s findings come after two staff members at the Russian news channel RT resigned from their posts. In March, Liz Wahl stepped down as an RT anchor, saying that she “cannot be part of a network that … whitewashes the actions of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin.” Just last week, another anchor, Sara Firth resigned. “We are asked (by RT) on a daily basis if not to totally ignore then to obscure the truth,” she said at the time.
The trust Russians put in their state-run media, according to Gallup, is solid across all age groups.
