Sean Penn Celebrates Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month By Wishing It On His Foes

CBS Sunday Morning last weekend actually produced a newsworthy moment that has people talking, when actor/activist Sean Penn discussed with host Lara Logan about those critical of his recent efforts in Haiti to aid those affected by the earthquake. “Do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah, you know, but I’m not going to spend a lot of energy on it.” Was he was speaking hyperbolically to make a point? Of course. But does the fact that March is Colorectal Cancer awareness month make it a tad more insensitive? Yup.

Penn is really a class act, isn’t he? He and Limbaugh have much in common.

He actually had a more significant quote. When he went off defending Hugo Chavez he declared the man was duly elected and that any media outlet that declared he was a dictator should be arrested.

Now, the obvious path on that is the censorship angle since that is the very definition of the term. But better still is his blindspot on the issue considering Chavez himself is shutting down opposition stations across his own country. Penn proves time and again his grasp on common sense mirrors that of a newborn and a pencil.

Penn should not be criticized for helping out in Haiti. He should be criticized for all of his far left bullshit, such as praising Chavez.

This is dumb. I’m one of those people that criticize Penn because I don’t think he’s a genuine person. I believe most everything he does is motivated by his politics but I don’t find his statement here more insensitive because this is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. How many of you actually knew that? Maybe at the start of every nightly news cast the anchors should have to tell us what type month we are in and what is and isn’t acceptable to say during the month.

Well, as O’Reilly showed the other day… Penn recently said that he thinks people calling his buddy Hugo Chavez a “dictator,” is wrong. A mistake so wrong, he says, it should come with jail time for anyone who says it.

    Apparently, Penn doesn’t understand irony.

    Still a good actor, though.

    What a douche.

I miss him as Spicoli, He should just go back to that character and everyone will love him.

I also love how the reporter laughs when he says about those people dying of cancer.
Yeah CBS reporter, that was funny ! what a tool she is…
I am sure she will put that on her resume reel when she is looking for a job.

So he said this on CBS? And CBS one of those television networks? Mediaite has an article about it, so I guess CBS has one viewer, at least.

Despite being so misguided on other things, Sean Penn is doing good work in Haiti. He needs to temper his speech and walk the walk for a long time. If he manages to do that without coming out with stupid comments like this one every few weeks, the number of critics will dwindle, he’ll have less reason to be bitter, and he’ll stop making stupid comments in anger.

And the dude has been there for a long time and he keeps going back, so I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that he really cares and does want to do that, but his short fuse and his big mouth keep getting in his way.

If he would realize that moronic remarks like the Chavez incident are what invites that criticism he might be less bitter about it and it would be less likely that they could catch him in a trap like this, when he gives them exactly what they want. If he’d keep his head down and focus on the work, crap like this wouldn’t keep happening.

Being rude and hateful doesn’t make up for being ugly–not even in Sean Penn’s case.

It sounds cliche, but this is a free country, Penn is rich, and if he really thinks Chavez is that great, no one is stopping him from moving to Venezuela. Likewise Danny Glover could live in Cuba. No one’s stopping you, guys.
