‘This Is Just Nutter Butter!’: CNN Data Guru Says Americans Now Trust Democrats More on Inflation

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten dropped some alarming numbers on President Donald Trump, showing there’s been a “nutter butter” switch in which party Americans trust to deal with inflation.

Enten joined CNN’s Sara Sidner on Friday morning, when he broke down some numbers that should concern the GOP going into the midterms.

According to CNBC polling, 65% say the Iran war is not worth higher gas prices, while 33% say it is. Gas prices have jumped since the start of the conflict in Iran, but they’ve now peaked at more than $4.10 a gallon, according to AAA. Before the first strikes on Iran in late February, the national average sat below $3.

“Donald Trump is here on one end saying, ‘You know what? It is what it is,’ and the American people are here on the other end, completely disagreeing with him on this issue of the Iran war and higher gas prices. The American people feel the pain at the pump and they very much disagree with the president of the United States,” Enten said.

He added that Republicans should be concerned about the negative numbers “funneling” down ballot. Before a recent gas price spike, Reuters/Ipsos released a survey showing 65% blame the GOP for higher gas prices, while just 27% blame Democrats.

The worst numbers, Enten warned, are on inflation. Combating high costs was a signature to Trump’s 2024 campaign, but Americans have continued battling inflated costs, mostly due to the Iran war.

Citing polling from ABC News, Fox News, and Ipsos, Enten showed a major change that he equated to the kind of “movement that kills parties.”

“This is just nutter butter. This is movement that kills parties, that kills their electoral aspirations,” he said.

According to the polling, taken from October 2024 and now, Trump was trusted more to handle inflation over former Vice President Kamala Harris by six points. Now, Americans say they trust Democrats to handle inflation more by 10 points.

Enten argued the “switcheroo” should be a huge concern for Republicans.

He said:

The reason that Donald Trump won a second term in 2024 was because of inflation. Now the higher gas prices are disproportionately affecting and making inflation go higher. And just take a look. This is just nutter butter. This is movement that kills parties, that kills their electoral aspirations. Trusted more on inflation, you go back to October of 2024, the reason Donald Trump won that second term in the White House was because he was more trusted on inflation by six points over Kamala Harris. The number one issue, the cost of living, inflation, is still the number one issue when it comes to Americans. But who do they trust now more when it comes to inflation? Look at this in the cost of living. Most recent Fox News poll, Democrats trusted by ten points on inflation, a complete switcheroo from what we saw in 2024.
