Slide Show: Top Ten Things Donald Trump Should Demand to See Next

In the aftermath of the Birther movement (the afterbirth, as everyone is cleverly calling it), out of the wreckage of Orly Taitz‘s long fifteen minutes, one undeniable truth has emerged: if you really need to see something that is completely meaningless, the revelation of which would be an assault on the values upon which this country is built, Donald Trump is your man. In a few short weeks, The Donald accomplished what thousands of conspiracy theorists, and dozens of court cases, could not, and what the accumulated decency of the American people had so far managed to prevent.

This is a talent that we should not allow to go to waste. We welcome any and all suggestions, but here are our picks for the…

    Tommy:
Your side created this birther hysteria, now you have to live with it. It sucks when things backfire on you, huh? I bet you loved Trump when he was calling Bush “evil” and a “liar”.

One thing is for sure, he played you people like a fiddle. The question I have is how much airtime will MSNBC continue to devote to birthers? They talked about them daily before Trump so I would imagine they’ll continue to talk about them.

The look on all of your faces is priceless. It’s basically a “hey, wha, huh, uh, da, bah, but, that wasn’t supposed to happen.” Bahahaha. Backfires are a biatch!

@lonestar77: I don’t watch a lot of MSNBC, but I find it hard to believe that they talked about the “birthers” daily before Trump. Sure, perhaps someone would occasionally make a joke and they covered Ms. Taitz, but under what context would they have been discussing it daily and who in particular was doing the discussing, or did they take turns?

Tommy – you do realize that the .pdf file released by the White House yesterday is layered – meaning that it’s likely been altered. Or do you refuse to accept that reality?

    Magister:
Chris Matthews. The guy has been obsessed with “birthers” for over 2 years. He would move from asking every Republican who came on to denounce “birthers’, to talking about “Orly Taitz”. He uses it to diminish all criticims of Obama. “This issue, about the budget, is it tribal, is it like the birther stuff”. Over & Over. Oh, & I had no idea who Taitz was other than that she was some sort of birther because Matthews mentioned her so much. I finally saw a picture of her yesterday. But, I’ve heard her name mentioned by him a lot over the last year. I honestly didn’t know if she truly existed or was just a figment of his imagination.

There are still a lot of lunatics out there — they call themselves “9/11 Truthers” — who think President Bush was involved in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

According to a University of Ohio 2006 poll, conducted with the Scripps Howard news agency, this question was asked:

“How likely is it that people in the federal government either assisted in the 9/11 attacks or took no action to stop the attacks because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East?” the poll asked.

A full 22.6% of Democrats said it was “very likely.” Another 28.2% called it “somewhat likely.”

That is: More than half of Democrats, according to a neutral survey, said they believed Bush was complicit in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Did it ever seem possible that so many journalists would be so hell fire indignant about a politician having to show more of their records?

I mean, think what you will about Birthers, but some of these journalists are acting as though it’s the “End of Days”.

They’ve spent two years virtually flaking for the president by sparing no inflammatory insult against members of these members of public who questioned the president’s bonafides, and now they act as though it’s a personal affront that the president finally complied.

Do they ask him why it was he could suddenly produce a copy of his long from birth certificate when the controversy starting getting traction in the polls? No. They just beat up some more on the people who yelled the loudest about it and then call THEM bullies.

There seems to be virtually no emotional or professional distance between the WH and these media members. It’s like they go to work with Pres. Obama in the morning and go out for drinks with him at night.

I’ve never seen anything like it. Get the hell out their way private citizen/Obama critic whether you are a Tea Party member or a Birther. The media hates your guts.

Harsh. The last one was uncalled for Mediaite. For shame.

One thing Obama has proved beyond a doubt, that he is not a True Leader of Men. A True Leader would have ended this contraversy when it first started. A True Leader would not let good, proven military officers go to prison just because they want to know who they are taking orders from. No, Obama is not a True Leader or a Leader at all, he is an Agitator, he loves to divide the people into groups and pit them against one another. The man is the Most Worthless Excuse of a President American has ever had to deal with! No More Affirmative Action Leaders, Pleeaassee!

ALLEN WEST 2012! A Proven Leader and Patriot!

You seem to think that nothing wacky or horrible will happen tomorrow. I can assure you it will, and the news critters will follow it like drosophila to dextrose. They won’t even break a sweat coming up with the next outrage.

And I include *all* news critters in the above: left, right, and center.

I was worried the madness would die down after Obama released the long form, but I see my fears were unjustified.

Please, please, please keep this up. With birferism out of the way, there was a risk that voters were going to start taking the right wing seriously, but thanks to your efforts, that’s looking more unlikely every moment.

    Kudos!

I don’t agree. There is no notable difference in the distance between the media and the White House than has been the case for years.

What *is* different is that the intensity of the divide between Americans is now played out more nakedly in the media than at any previous time. I read people on this board figuratively shrieking about the “liberal” media and the “rightwing” media, and while it’s true that Fox appeals to a right-of-center audience and MSNBC appeals (somewhat) to a left-of-center audience, the media as a whole is the same odd combination of conservative ownership and liberal journalism that we’ve seen since the great media consolidation began in the 70s and 80s.

The proliferation of cable outlets and Internet outlets has raised the temperature, but the great mass of professional journalists (which doesn’t include the totality of the blogosphere) cluster pretty close together, all looking for the next audience-exciting thing.

Dumb article, but college transcripts would be nice to see from someone who portrays himself as some kind of scholar.
