Yawn: Protester Tosses Barely-There Bits Of Glitter At Oblivious Rep. Bachmann

video

It’s official: the anti-Republican presidential glitter protest has now become a national epidemic. After a speech during today’s Right Online conference in Minnesota, a lone protester approached the stage from which Rep. Michele Bachmann was descending and shouted “you can run, but you can’t hide!” at the Republican presidential candidate while tossing some sort of paper in her general direction. It was, to say the least, anticlimactic.

While the first candidate to get fully glittered, Newt Gingrich, actually received a full cereal box of glitter on his lap and hair, and Tim Pawlenty just smiled as pink paper fell onto the table in front of him, Rep. Bachmann doesn’t even seem to notice the protester tossing glitter towards the stage from which she was stepping down.

The description on the YouTube video:

At RightOnline conference in Minneapolis, Michele Bachmann was inducted into the Glitter Hall of Fame by local gay rights advocate Rachel E. B. Lang. Bachmann joins Newt Gingrich and Tim Pawlenty in the anti-gay glitter circle.

You can run but you can’t hide! Let the glitter games begin!

Sure.

The timing comes right off the heels of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee demanding that these glitter protesters be arrested for “assault” (he probably meant battery) due to unlawful touching. But what of a glitter protest where the breeze seems to keep all the glitter so far from the victim that they don’t even notice they’re being protested?

Glittering is silly and potentially a misdemeanor battery charge.

Can anyone else see that this is going to get out of hand?

Now try doing that to Pelosi and see what happens .

I’m not too impressed with the story headline. Buchanan didn’t respond (which was a very adult way of handling this stupid situation). For Frances to say she was oblivious is just a put down. Nobody was oblivious as can be seen with her rapid removal.

Come on Frances – so you don’t like her, you don’t have to be juvenile in your attempts, Did you get your “writing” points from Chris Matthews?

The glitter would get in Pelosi’s eyes seeing as she can’t close them.

If spitting on someone is considered assault then so should throwing glitter.

  • pandemicsoul

This is a hazard of this type of protest, unfortunately. A number of pieing protests in the last 20 years have resulted in people getting hit in the back or being missed completely. Still, it usually creates media attention, which is about 40% of the point of the action.

  • Scrapette Jones

I dunno about the men, but I can tell you one thing: after 5 + 23 kids, I’m pretty sure that Michele can handle glitter, no problem, probably even likes it. No wonder she didn’t even react. The title is right: YAWN!

Bundy worked on the re-election campaign of Washington’s Republican Governor Dan Evans. Evans was elected and he appointed Bundy to the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Committee. Bundy’s political future seemed secure, when in 1973 he became assistant to Ross Davis, chairman of the Washington State Republican Party. It was a good time in Bundy’s life.

Across the board, serial killers are predominantly conservative in their political leanings. Gary Ridgeway, Dennis Rader, and probably the biggest name of all, Ted Bundy, were all active in the Republican Party at some level. Quizzing other killers showed the same thing, that the vast majority vote Republican,” said lead pollster David Quick. “We gain no analysis from this, it garners us no insight into the workings of the minds of conservative politicians or serial killers, but it is an overwhelming majority. Because serial killers come from diverse backgrounds and possess vastly different IQ’s they appear to have nothing in common save their conservative ideals and their desire to butcher people. It’s compelling data to be sure.”

I am unaware that Pol Pot ever worked for the DNC, Oh wait I think I heard (probably from a con) that Hitler worked on the reelection campaign of FDR, that maybe wrong though.

Late on a Saturday night two weeks ago, an unemployed carpenter packed his mother’s Toyota Tundra with guns and set off for San Francisco with a plan to kill progressives.

When California Highway Patrol officers stopped him on an interstate in Oakland for driving erratically, Byron Williams, wearing body armor, fired at police with a 9mm handgun, a shotgun and a .308-caliber rifle with armor-piercing bullets, Oakland police say. Shot and captured after injuring two officers, Williams, on parole for bank robbery, told investigators that he wanted “to start a revolution” by “killing people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU,” according to a police affidavit. His mother, Janice, told the San Francisco Chronicle that her son had been watching television news and was upset by “the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items.”

But what television news show could have directed the troubled man’s ire toward the obscure Tides Foundation, which sounds as if it’s dedicated to oceanography, or perhaps laundry detergent, but which is in fact a nonprofit that claims to support “sustainability, better education, solutions to the AIDS epidemic and human rights”?

A week after the incident, the mystery was solved. “Tides was one of the hardest things that we ever tried to explain, and everyone told us that we couldn’t,” Fox News host Glenn Beck told his radio listeners on Monday. “The reason why the blackboard” — the prop Beck uses on his TV show to trace conspiracies — “really became what the blackboard is, is because I was trying to explain Tides and how all of this worked.” Beck accuses Tides of seeking to seize power and destroy capitalism, and he suggests that a full range of his enemies on the left all have “ties to the Tides Center.” On Monday, he savored the fact that “no one knew what Tides was until the blackboard.

Pittsburgh shooting kills 3 cops, Obama’s gun laws blamed
By Hanlon, on April 4th, 2009 at 07:57 PM

gunWhen I got sent this link I was initially concerned because I thought I might have known some of the people involved. Luckily for me, neither the Pittsburgher himself nor the three police officers he murdered were anyone I knew. Still, it’s a pure and utter tragedy and one of those instances that really makes me question my opposition to the death penalty.

Things delved into the land of the crazy, though, when they interviewed the shooter’s friend:

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn’t clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Poplawski had feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon,” said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.

If I didn’t know better, I’d say this PA resident was rather bitter, and clinging to his gun.

This is scary shit, guys. Conservatives are going to say “well he’s a maniac, you can’t blame the right on this whatsoever.” Wrong. When you tell the masses, and especially the ones with the giant armories, that the president is a threat to the integrity of the nation, you foment the kind of rage that causes this. When you get on television and have a roundtable discussion about how best to stage a revolution against the Obama administration, you inspire men like Poplawski.

Knoxville church shooter’s manifesto leaves no doubt: murders were political terror against liberals

Progressives around the country can breathe a little easier today: James Adkisson has been sentenced to life behind bars for the deaths of Greg McKendry and Linda Kraeger, the Unitarian Universalist martyrs who died during his assault on their church in Knoxville, TN last July.

Many of us intuited at the time that Adkisson’s rampage was exactly the kind of rancid fruit that would inevitably take root in an American countryside thickly composted with two decades of hate radio bullshit, freshly turned and watered with growing middle-class frustration over the failing economy. That suspicion that was verified in the days that followed, when police searched Adkisson’s apartment and found it filled with books and newsletters penned by Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and other right-wing hate talkers.

But Monday, Adkisson told us himself — in his own words — just how central right-wing eliminationism was in driving him to his shooting spree. Shortly after he was sentenced Monday, he released a four-page handwritten “manifesto” — which he’d intended to be his suicide note — to the Knoxville News (the full .pdf can be downloaded here). In it, he unleashes the full measure of his hatred for liberals — and encourages other would-be right-wing warriors to take up arms and follow him into battle.

    Some choice excerpts:

“Know this if nothing else: This was a hate crime. I hate the damn left-wing liberals. There is a vast left-wing conspiracy in this country & these liberals are working together to attack every decent & honorable institution in the nation, trying to turn this country into a communist state. Shame on them….

“This was a symbolic killing. Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate & House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg’s book. I’d like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I know those people were inaccessible to me. I couldn’t get to the generals & high ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chickenshit liberals that vote in these traitorous people. Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It’s the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence.”

“I thought I’d do something good for this Country Kill Democrats til the cops kill me….Liberals are a pest like termites. Millions of them Each little bite contributes to the downfall of this great nation. The only way we can rid ourselves of this evil is to kill them in the streets. Kill them where they gather. I’d like to encourage other like minded people to do what I’ve done. If life aint worth living anymore don’t just kill yourself. do something for your Country before you go. Go Kill Liberals.

In the article above, seriously try reading, I know you like to look at the pretty pictures but reading is a lot of fun and you can learn something.

  • LOGICandREASON

Honestly I would really like the Conservative Pro-Life movements to start a similar glitters war and do it to every single pro-choice member of the US Congress, and lets see how the media covers it.

I would like it done to at least 10 pro-choice members of Congress every single day, at every single event they are are present. I just want to see if there would be any outrage my the Left (media included). Maybe at that point they’ll start arresting them for the assault that it clearly is.

  • Ramrants

I understand that glitter never harmed anyone, but why is it that Republicans have to put up with being accosted by stupid people throwing things at them, but the Tea Party is the one that gets accused of being the violent group…even though they have never been violent. I don’t see the TP group going around throwing stuff on politicians.

And seriously, what do you think you are going to accomplish by doing this? Bachmann is suddenly going to change her position on gay marriage because someone threw glitter on her?

Did Glenn Beck’s rhetoric inspire violence?

Glenn Beck’s attacks on the Tides Foundation are being linked to a heavily-armed man’s attempt to assassinate the progressive organization’s employees. Rhetoric has consequences, critics saySpecifically, his dozens of comments attacking the Tides Foundation are being linked to the attempt by a heavily-armed man to assassinate employees at the San Francisco-based foundation, which funds environmental, human rights, and other progressive projects. The attack in July was thwarted in a shoot-out with police in which two officers were wounded.

Since then, alleged attacker Byron Williams has said in jailhouse interviews that he wanted to “start a revolution.” He says Beck was not the direct cause of his turning violent. But he does say: “I would have never started watching Fox News if it wasn’t for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind.”

At various times, Beck has referred to Tides as “bullies” and “thugs” whose mission is to “warp your children’s brains and make sure they know how evil capitalism is.” More recently, Beck (who describes himself as a “progressive hunter”) has warned the foundation “I’m coming for you.”

This has drawn criticism from various quarters.
    ‘People are turning to guns’

Referring directly to Beck, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence issued a statement this week: “Too many people are turning to guns to remedy their grievances. And they are being fueled by rhetoric from leaders of the extreme gun rights movement.”

    Some law enforcement officials agree.

“The Becks of the world are people who are venting their opinions and it is inflammatory, it generates a lot of emotion and generates in some people overreaction that apparently happened in the California case,” Rich Roberts of the International Union of Police Associations, which represents some 500 local police unions, told the progressive media watchdog Media Matters for America. “Inflammatory speech has a tendency to trigger those kinds of emotions.”

Speaking of the alleged attack on the Tides Foundation by Byron Williams, Rep. Peter King (R) of New York, senior Republican on the Homeland Security Committee, said in an e-mail to Media Matters: “It is important that everyone in public life, whether on the right or on the left, realize that words have consequences.”

Threats? How bout shootings? Glenn Beck and the Oakland shooter Network NewsX ProfileView More ActivityTOOLBOXResizePrintE-mailReprints By Dana MilbankSunday, August 1, 2010 Late on a Saturday night two weeks ago, an unemployed carpenter packed his mother’s Toyota Tundra with guns and set off for San Francisco with a plan to kill progressives. His mother, Janice, told the San Francisco Chronicle that her son had been watching television news and was upset by “the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items.” But what television news show could have directed the troubled man’s ire toward the obscure Tides Foundation, which sounds as if it’s dedicated to oceanography, or perhaps laundry detergent, but which is in fact a nonprofit that claims to support “sustainability, better education, solutions to the AIDS epidemic and human rights”? Pittsburgh shooting kills 3 cops, Obama’s gun laws blamedBy Hanlon, on April 4th, 2009 at 07:57 PM gunWhen I got sent this link I was initially concerned because I thought I might have known some of the people involved. Luckily for me, neither the Pittsburgher himself nor the three police officers he murdered were anyone I knew. Still, it’s a pure and utter tragedy and one of those instances that really makes me question my opposition to the death penalty. Things delved into the land of the crazy, though, when they interviewed the shooter’s friend: Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn’t clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns. … Poplawski had feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon,” said Edward Perkovic, his best friend. I’m at a loss.

“Oblivious”, as Frances used it, is a misuse of the word in either a denotative or connotative sense. It says nothing about Bachman but a lot about Martel.

    Touche’

    Well done, Derk Elliot!

Sometime, somewhere along the line of America’s History, we have misinterpreted our Constitution. A Stripper is NOT exercising her 1st amendment right. Impeding traffic, using a bull horn, pornography, and NEITHER is throwing glitter or whatever on someone or something, protected speech! The 5th or 14th amendments may cover such endeavors, but, NOT, our precious 1st amendment.

Using such methods to convey an idea, and then claiming 1st amendment protection, only tells us that the message is weak, disreputable or vanquished.

    Quote:

“All the winds of Doctrine were let loose to play upon the earth, so Truth be in the field,

Let Truth and falsehood grapple; who ever knew the Truth put to the worse, in a free and open encounter?”

    GREY GOOSE,

Hmm, apparently you’ve spent more time with him than I. However, he did engage me once, but, ran away when I challenged him. He does that…

Anyway, enough with my Detective Work. Thanks for the input.

Did I ever mention to you that I’ve actually been to South Park? (Its just over Hoosier Pass from Breckemridge. I lived in Colorado for 25 years. Skiing, along with Motorcycling on the twisty roads is fabulous)

I have a Coffee Mug with your picture on it, seriously. LOL

That show is way underrated. The Boys are excellent satirists.

Remember the Trapper Keeper episode? Or, Jimbo and Ned take the Boys Huntin? “Scuzzlebutt” LOL Man they pick on everybody that deserves it!

Yeah, he pretty much ran away from me to when I crushed his arguments.

I love the Rob “Meathead” Reiner episodes where he starts an anti-smoking campaign in S.P.

    VERSUS

When you move “Quotes” from one thread to another on a different topic, you are a lying, sleazy scumbag.

A/K/A a typical Contrash, ToiletPaper Reactionary.
    You’ll probably get a medal.
