Your Moment of Glenn: Meghan McCain Is ‘A Useful Idiot’

video

I think, if you listened very closely, today’s show was supposed family values hour on Glenn Beck. Alas, the value part was mostly lost in translation and what came out instead was some weird variation of the last five minutes of a Scooby Doo episode: “You meddling kids!” Except that in Beck’s version, the “children of our future” may be secret Maoists or would be if they weren’t so stupid. Says Beck:

“Let’s be honest, kids are pretty stupid…Lenin had a phrase for people like these, they were called ‘useful idiots.’ I think a lot of our twenty-somethings are becoming useful idiots. One of those ‘useful idiots’ seems to be Meghan McCain.”

You’ll have to watch the video for Beck’s, actually sort of offensive impression of McCain (like, as if!), who I happen to think is a reasonably intelligent addition to the conservative chattering-sphere. For that matter, I have to wonder which twenty-somethings Beck has been spending time with of late that had led him to hold such a negative impression them (for what it’s worth, I happen to be continually amazed by the intelligence of the twenty-somethings currently in our office).

Anyway, the point of this whole, old cranky man diatribe, is that Glenn Beck is concerned that progressives are “hijacking” the youth of America! What has him up in arms specifically is this video from October of 2008 (Beck fails to note the time frame), which encouraged kids to talk to their parents about voting for Barack Obama, or explaining to their parents why they feel it’s important. You meddling kids! According to Beck, the message of the video is that “Mom and Dad are stupid, they believe in that crazy Constitution stuff.” Basically, Obama is trying to indoctrinate your children! AND. He’s disobeying a Commandment. Yowzer. Perhaps fitting he’s still in La La land. Video below.

I love it. This proves once again that conservatives have no sense of irony. It’s genetic. Here you have Glenn Beck, perhaps the biggest moron and fraud to ever have his own television comedy hour, quoting Lenin, while calling Megan McCain a useful idiot. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

  • allthenews

Glynnis Macnicol….you typify the vast majority of Libs. NO intelligence, NO sense of humor. Whine, whine, whine. (And for the record…Meghan McCain has an IQ of 5.)

  • tjl

I know that Glenn Beck loves this site, but I don’t get why he would post under the name “allthenews.” What up Beck! Your fat neck is still pretty cool, by the way. I notice Breitbart has one too. It’s all the rage in conservatism!

  • timzank

Actually, there is nothing useful about Ms. McCain.

  • same2u

You want to know what else is ridiculous about Beckerheads? They love to piss and moan about the “leftist indoctrination” at our universities.

But you want to know these idiots fail to realize while they are busy passing off their Fox News talking points? That the most common university degree is in America is Business Administration. And for these students, this means the overwhelming amount of their time in college is spent studying, marketing, accounting, management and finance.

Beckerheads are what is wrong with this country.

  • dolphin00

    Hey Glynnis –

Is there a reason you and folks like you in the media INSIST on continually referring to Meghan McCain as a “conservative”? What, exactly, is there about her or what she says that is “Conservative”? Please enlighten us.

  • JunkJunk

How true, dolphin. I mean, the woman believes in having sex. There’s no way on God’s green earth she could be a conservative…

    /snark

  • Fidoohki

As I’ve said before. Meagan McCain is RINO! Give her a horn and ship her off to Africa!:)

Seriously. Meagan McCain is a progressive, not a conservative.

  • writer

Olbermann’s degree is in agriculture. Perhaps that’s how he learned to spread so much bull.

  • Ted

She’s not a conservative only as far as you whacked out far right wing tea-bagging fringe lunatics are concerned.

    Palin dropping like a rock.

  • writer

Democratic congress approval rating dropping like a rock. Left still uses name calling in lieu of brains.

I really have to give Beck credit. It has to be hard to come up with so many ridiculous things to rant about every day. The guy is definitely talented. I’m sure he could spend five minutes arguing about a Breyer’s label.

One of the “kids” identifies himself as a first-generation American and based upon immigration patterns, I’m going to guess that may also be true of the young lady that he featured twice. Naturally, if their parents were born in another country and haven’t previously participated in the process, they’d need to be educated.

And, though Wikipedia isn’t the most reliable source, but it anecdotally backs up my memory… At the beginning of 1980, there were only 20 chapters of College Republicans, but by election day, there were 1000. One of the key components of the Reagan revolution were the young people, who were rebelling against their parents excesses in the 60s and 70s.

Of course, I’ll still give Beck credit because back in the 80s, when a lot of the young people were wanting to deregulate everything and were obsessed with making money above all else, I was saying pretty much the same thing, except from the other side of the coin.

  • tjl

Writer: Olbermann has a degree! What’s Beck’s degree in? How about Hannity? …. I’ll wait….

  • Azarkhan

    Dear Ms. McCain,

The reason the Democrats with their “super-majority” in the Senate and overwhelming majority in the House were unable to pass their health-care initiative or various other large spending programs wasn’t because they feared sparking a revolution in the streets. It was because they feared being voted out of office in November 2010.

You may not be aware of this, but the USA is a republic, with a constitutional procedure for voting every two years. And alas, you don’t have to be young to vote. Even grandma and grandpa can vote, as long as they can get to the polling booth with their walkers and pull the lever. Furthermore, one of the “inconvenient truths” of American politics is that older people vote in far greater numbers then younger people.

Ms. McCain, thanks to your elderly fathers achievements, you have a privileged position in society. This enables you to go on national television, despite having accomplished nothing of note, give your opinion and be taken seriously.

However, while you are busy criticizing the paleolithic Tea Party activists, please reflect on one thing. Even though Lenin was 47 in 1917, you are correct in that real revolutions are indeed spearheaded by the young. However, there is no guaranteeing the outcome of a revolution, or whether the winners will be from the left or the right. The only thing that can be forecast with a fair amount of certainty, is that the privileged class of the ancien regime will be swept away. That includes individuals like you, Ms.McCain.

Right on, Meghan! Give it up, though, and become a Democrat. Conservatism has been a miserable failure to start with and now it’s entirely taken over by the likes of Beck and Hannity, et al.

I give you credit for trying but you’ll get nowhere with this crowd – they hated your dad, too. Time to switch to the sane side – come to the light!

I like Meghan McCain. She knows it is far better to be an alleged RINO than a bona fide teabagger.

Lol, you guys are so predictable.

So let me see if I understand you… Colleges aren’t more often liberal, because a lot of students major in some form of business, and business is inherently conservative? Is that what you’re trying to say?

You do know that there are liberal businesses… and that this theory is just paranoid, uninformed nonsense… right? This is a joke, right?

Your point about the college Republicans is interesting. However, the youth (of which I am… at least part of the 20-something crowd) is ficle. Perhaps we are on the verge of the re-Reagan revolution. Perhaps everything is cyclical… and the people who grew up with me, who rejected the conservative attitude of the 80s and became more left-wing in the 90s, are on their way out and the folks younger are just the opposite. Perhaps it’s a 10 year, or so, cycle.

But I wouldn’t put much faith in it.

Right on, Meghan! Give it up, though, and become a Democrat. … I give you credit for trying but you’ll get nowhere with this crowd – they hated your dad, too.

Yeah… and the Democrats LOVED McCain, and were so nice to him during the campaign… right?

    Hypocrite.

  • rmbltmbl

Meghan McCain is no different from her father, she wants it both ways. She called herself a progressive Republican, that is in fact not conservative. She will learn the same lessons her father has learned but hurt the Republican party in the process, again, like her father and all progressives.

When I was in high school ten years ago, it was quite obvious that liberal, ‘against the machine or establishment’ thing was the cool thing to be.. if in fact one cared. I thought I heard 85% of all professors consider themselves liberals.. teachers are in unions.. and school boards buy books based on what they want them to say. Beck recently read some ‘history’ on progressives being taught in CA this week.. what more evidence is needed? The school system is NPR, and surprise! it costs more than anywhere else and does quite poorly. What have liberals and progressives successfully ran besides a campaign of deception anyway? Name one success.

And your out of context quotes, Glynnis? Overall, feels like your taking the defense of young people while shaming Beck for bringing it up, which people my age would eat up.. if they were stupid. I find it sad and telling. You don’t need to tell us that you welcome Meghan McCain to your ‘debates.’ Why wouldn’t you?

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

@ImNotBlue: Oh, it’s clearly a cycle. I don’t want to get too far into assigning dates or specific length of time because then we’d be getting into interpretation, but there was an obvious “revolution” spearheaded by the youth in the mid to late 60s and through more than half of the 70s; There was the “Reagan revolution” in the 80s, which probably extended through at least the first Clinton administration and now the “kids” are back to being progressive for probably a decade, if not a couple of years more.

IMHO: The power cycle and its “useful idiots” is how we stay in check.

  • TfT

Meghan will always be used by the MSM, willfully or otherwise. She seems to like the spotlight.

Now, when Olbermann names the grandchildren of a sitting US Senator, private citizens I might add, as WPITW we have a problem. Where is your outrage mediate over Olbermann’s antics regarding this family?

Meghan is a public figure by her own making, this family is not, yet Olbermann highlights them? What’s next, he’ll start naming anonymous posters on media boards as WPITWs?

Olbermann is one sick puppy and he should be castigated by sites like this one.

  • Jim R

    ImNotBlue,

No, only the “liberal” media loved John McCain.

I’ve never been a hypocrite and never liked McCain, but thanks for projecting.

  • ChrisNH

Hey, fair is fair. The McCain chick is no less a political target than Palin is. If the Left wants to speak in hurtful terms about Palin, then the McCain chick is going to get it between the eyes, too. I’m all for it.

Glenn Beck is a useless idiot.

  • same2u

ChrisNH – I agree. We need to be consistent and talk in hurtful terms about all chicks. Makes sense.

    ImNotBlue,
No, only the “liberal” media loved John McCain.

Yeah, exactly what “liberal media” loved McCain? Was it the NYTimes who published pure rumor? Was it the bloggers around here who loved talking about what they saw as flaws in his military history? Was it the harshness with which he was treated, as compared to the loveliness with which Obama was treated?

I have no idea what planet you were on for the ’08 election… but I was here on Earth. I suggest you join me at some point.

    Blue,
I found your comment too stupid to respond to. Try again.

Ah! So I did get your intent correct. Yes, I thought your original statement was stupid too.

But if that wasn’t your intent, feel free to clarify for all.

  • J Baustian

Meghan McCain is a pleasant young lady who, as far as I can tell, has no deeply thought-out political views of any kind. If one divides the political spectrum into libertarians and totalitarians, I think both Ms McCain and her father tend toward the totalitarian end. Or at least they see nothing wrong with giving the government ever-increasing control over our individual lives.

FWIW, I voted for John McCain in 2008, as the lesser of two evils. But he was way, way down my list of candidates for the nomination that year. It was not enough that I agreed with him about 50% on the issues; that was McCain’s big problem with most other Republican voters, they were asked to hold their noses and pull the lever for him, not the way to win the presidency.

  • Tater Salad

I’m old, around 62 or something so Meghan McCain can S.O.R. and means suck ole’ rusty!

  • rmbltmbl

Gee, the left loves M. McCain.. what a STUNNING REVELATION! hahahaha!!
