Mediaite Presents 2011 New Year’s Resolutions For Everyone Else
The New Year is here, and with it, the annual exercise in futility that is the New Year’s Resolution. As you stare into the abyss of another 365 days in which to improve yourself, it might help you to know that the figures who make Mediaite go ’round have some things to work on, too. Here’s what we think some of them are saying into the mirror this morning.
So, before you try to shake off that Cold Duck and Four Loko hangover and blearily search for a gym membership you can get out of when you get tired of it after 3 sessions, why not check out our list of New Year’s Resolutions for Everyone Else?
From “Demon Sheep” To “I Am Not A Witch” – GOP Ad Guy Explains Himself
Republican consultant and ad expert Fred Davis has created some of the most memorable campaign ads of the last few years. He was the guy behind “Demon Sheep” earlier this year, as well as the ‘Obama Celebrity’ ad during the 2008 campaign.
He talked about his latest viral sensation, Christine O’Donnell‘s “I am not a witch” ad, on Parker Spitzer.
Senate Candidate Jim Bender’s New Ad Features Uncle Sam Eating Checks
Campaign ads (especially the bad ones) are the highlight of every campaign season. And today, New Hampshire’s Republican candidate for Senate Jim Bender has released one for the annals of awful campaign videos. The ad features Uncle Sam gorging himself on various cakes shaped like banks, ambulances, personal checks, and college diplomas. Supposedly it’s meant to represent the federal government “feasting” on everything from businesses to kids’ college loan programs.
Arizonan Frog Scolds Obama Officials For Not Reading Immigration Law
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and TV personality Sarah Palin have thrown down the gauntlet in an epic smackdown of opponents of Arizona’s new immigration law that allows officers to ask for identification when probable cause of illegal immigrant status exists. Enlisting the help of Kermit one of those frogs Lady Gaga wore as a dress once, they’ve created an instructional children’s sing-along to teach kids that reading is good!– which is why opponents of the Arizona law just don’t do it.
Wasted Guy vs. Flip-Flop: Today’s Viral Video, Tomorrow’s Political Ad
A new viral video, featuring an apparently chemically impaired Coachella attendee locked in mortal combat with a flip-flop, is burning up cyberspace. The aptly titled “Wasted Guy vs. Flip-Flop” has logged over 150,000 views in just 24 hours.
The video is hysterical, but it also has the potential to bring back that 2004 political staple, the flip-flop attack ad. Just picture this video with a text overlay of any candidate’s shifting positions, and “Voila!” The next “Demon Sheep!”
The Man Behind Awesome ‘Demon Sheep’ Ad Is Revealed
The awesome Demon Sheep ad — put out by California senate seat seeker Carly Fiorina — left a lot of people wondering whether this was political genius at work, or just amateur ad-making that accidentally went viral. The answer appears to be genius. Is this the future of political advertising?
Demon Sheep Update: Fiorina and Campbell Camps React
The Carly for California campaign has created an ad so weird, it would make Salvador Dali say “WTF?” It’s a negative attack aimed at Carly Fiorina‘s opponent, Tom Campbell, but if there’s any justice, it will now become the political equivalent of Star Wars Kid, or those “Hitler reacts” videos. Behold.
