FoxNews.com Lifts Passages From The Atlantic Wire, Issues Clarification That Is Nearly As Long As Original Article

foxnews.com

On Sunday, FoxNews.com ran a rather innocuous story on the U.S. Navy reportedly training dolphins as a counter-measure to Iran possibly closing the Strait of Hormuz. But the unknown author (a good amount of FoxNews.com content runs without bylines) failed to disclose that the story was pretty much a re-purposing of a report by John Hudson that had run two days earlier on TheAtlanticWire.com.

FoxNews.com Not Too Thrilled About Its Exclusion From Facebook’s ‘Most Shared Articles’ List

fbook_most_shared_12.2.11

Yesterday, a post on FoxNews.com asked whether Facebook is “acting unsocially” by not including major news outlets (like Fox News, as well as MSNBC) in its list of “The Most Shared Articles of 2011.”

This Exists: Pregnant Or Ham Sandwich?

Jennifer Garner _8.1.11

Here’s a fun game to play if you’re bored and/or tired of women all eating lunch or whatever: Pregnant, or ham sandwich? This delightful little game (which, let’s be honest, you’ve played silently on many a subway ride) is brought to you courtesy of FoxNews.com, and features such celebrated young women as Jennifer Garner (shown here), Uma Thurman, Mariah Carey and Pink.

How Are News Corp. Properties Covering The End Of News Of The World?

Fox News video

Just as one of the most popular search terms following the Casey Anthony verdict was “Nancy Grace reaction,” schadenfreude-enthusiasts are eagerly looking to all News Corp. outlets today to see how they’re covering the shuttering of their corporate cousin News of the World amidst massive phone-hacking allegations. So, how are the rest of the Rupert Murdoch-owned outlets tackling this family embarrassment?

FoxNews.com Bizarrely Connects College Student’s Suicide To Obama Speech (UPDATE)

Obama Budget

Yesterday, a George Washington University student committed suicide. While college students taking their own lives is, unfortunately, fairly common, this tragedy has gotten national coverage thanks to FoxNews.com who strangely decided to put the news story in the “American Election HQ” section of their site. Why? Because they appear to have decided to connect the suicide to the fact that President Obama was giving a speech at GW at the same time the body was discovered. It’s all in a bafflingly insensitive article entitled “GWU Suicide Tragically Coincides with Obama Speech‬.” (The link is now dead.)

Shep Smith Disses Commenters Of FoxNews.com ‘Why Do You Even Read This Mess?’

Shep Smith Cropped video

Yesterday, an Indiana judge ruled that news outlets can be legally forced to reveal information about the people who post anonymously on their websites. On Studio B today, Shepard Smith and Judge Andrew Napolitano discussed the uses for commenting without identification. Both of them seemed to agree that there was a reason for it. However, after reading some of the comments on FoxNews.com, Smith questioned why anyone would want to read the stuff.

Fox News Pundit: ‘Keith Olbermann Clearly Runs MSNBC’

skype_gripe video

FoxNews.com has a feature they call “Skype Gripe” in which two talking heads discuss news of the day from different political angles: Ellis Henican represents a left-of-center point of view and Jim Pinkerton comes from a right-of-center perspective. Today’s topic was the new Howard Kurtz Daily Beast report on the “war” between Keith Olbermann and MSNBC president Phil Griffin, a great piece filled with lots of interesting details.

Fox News Launches FoxNewsLatino.com Weeks Before The Election

latino_8-12

Fox News launched their new web site, FoxNewsLatino.com, today, just weeks before a midterm election.

The site, mostly in English, is a mix of political and human interest stories so far, and will focus on “culturally relevant content built around the interests of Hispanic online users.”

Shep Smith Mocks Foxnews.com: ‘Like Running Through A Maze Blindfolded’

SHEP_DOITLIVE video

Slow news day? You betcha! But here’s a fun and whimsical clip that highlights the uncanny snark of Fox News host Shepard Smith. Yesterday we posted a clip of a tense back and forth between Smith and Micahel Lohan (which lead the latter to utter the ‘f-bomb.’) On today’s episode of Studio B, Shep was teasing the full clip on FoxNews.com and revealed that he might not love the navigation of the site.

The Future Of Journalism? Unpaid Photoshoppers Have Weekly Op-Ed On FoxNews.com

RyanConnerAZ.Pelosi

Fox News has responded repeatedly to accusations that they are “not a news network” by pointing to the distinction between their news and opinion sections. And if critics still doubt what actual opinion looks like on Fox, they should click on the FoxNews.com Opinion Page. That’s where the network really lets its (and, this week, Nancy Pelosi‘s!) hair down.

Fox News Poll Concludes Tea Partiers Are Racist, Conspiracy Theorists

090415-teaparty-hmed-10a.h2

Let’s just first qualify this by stating that online polls, for any variety of reasons, are not necessarily reliable. Nevertheless, it’s hard not to note this FOXNews.com poll, in which nearly 160,000 people (ostensibly) participated. The poll asks “What Is the Tea Party Movement About?” Here are your options:

Dispatches From Fox Nation: Obama Can’t Say “Suspect”; Fox Nation Can

video

Dispatches From Fox Nation:

It’s been a while since we reported from Fox Nation, Fox News’ opinion/community website, and there’s a reason for that. The tone seems to have changed – less screaming headlines, less purposely misleading prompts to feed the hungry conservative commenters. But we had to highlight the hypocrisy there today – relating to the use of the term “suspect.”

In Defense of Fox News’ Ambush Of “Congressman With Guts” Alan Grayson

opinion

Yesterday, Mediaite offered a sneak peek at Fox News’ Griff Jenkins ambushing controversial Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fl) outside his office. The first thing I thought when I saw this was that Grayson’s repeated demands that Jenkins make an appointment constituted some particularly weak sauce. On last night’s O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly and Jenkins called Grayson out for hiding behind his press flack, and I couldn’t agree more.

Dispatches From Fox Nation: FNC Ambusher Nails Rep. Grayson

Dispatches From Fox Nation:

You kind of felt like this was coming. In the wake of Rep. Alan Grayson‘s recent comments (and subsequent apology) about a female adviser to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, calling her a “K Street whore,” Fox News has dispatched its Chief Ambush Correspondent Griff Jenkins to corner the controversial Dem.

Sex Watch: Foxnews.com’s Helpful Tips On Handling Sexy Teachers

VIDEO

Fox News: not afraid to be servicey, in more ways than one. Yesterday, Foxnews.com addressed its readers’ burning concerns by posting a video titled “How to Handle an Inappropriate Teacher.” It involved a Sarah Palin-looking vamp named “Ms. Babcock” seductively biting an apple and sending naughty text messages, so you know it had to be educational.

Cable News Websites Treat Joe Wilson Very Differently

Rep. Joe Wilson‘s outburst of “You lie” at President Barack Obama during his speech to Congress Wednesday has created quite a media stir, and the way that this story unfolds reveal a lot about the health care debate and the odds for a bipartisan solution. But not everyone seems to feel that this is a lead story. Let’s take a look at how the websites for the cable news networks chose to cover the story:

Rep. Joe Wilson: Newest Hero to Some

video

In what many considered to be a shocking and embarrassing breach of decorum, a Republican House Member, Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., shouted “You lie” at President Barack Obama during his speech to Congress Wednesday. Democrats AND Republicans were quick to call out his eruption (bipartisanship at last!), and Wilson himself was quick to issue an apology. But on the strange world of the Internet, Joe Wilson’s scene appears to have made him an instant hero.
