When it comes to cable news, FoxNews cable channel usually has more audience share than CNN & MSNBC combined. But FNS goes out on all Fox network channels, not FoxNews cable. So the comparison to CNN does not hold. FNS should be compared to Meet the Press, Face The Nation (do people still watch that?) and This Week with (fill in the blank).

And FNS often beats these competitors on Sunday morning. It’s clearly an attempted snub at Fox News Sunday and does not help them with FNS audience. It does not help bolster Obama’s image with moderates. And Obama cannot win without moderates.

Someone on the FNS panel made the point that Obama won independents by a 10-point margin in 2008. Yet the Republicans won the House by a 19-point margin amongst independents. Obama is not likely to win in 2012. I’d put money on Kristol’s prognostication. Because it’s not only the unpopular PPACA that Obama will have to defend in 2012, it’s the persistent high unemployment (unseen since the 30s). He campaigned in 2008 saying he knew what to do to fix the economy and has proven in the interim that he is clueless about how the economy works — and has failed to end entrenched unemployment.

I am 53 so I have seen high unemployment before. I feel sorry for people graduating from college because I remember what it was like to graduate into a weak job market. But the high unemployment of my youth was brief and followed by 7% economic growth. Obama does not have a leg to stand on in 2012, unless the economy starts to improve at this late date.

As I said, the economy came roaring back in May 1983 because of Reagan’s tax rate reductions. Does anybody foresee an equivalent roar starting in May of this year? If it happens, Obama will see Reagan-like popularity. I just don’t see that happening (unfortunately).

If I was a conservative Republican, I would insist that it’s the greatest news organization too because all it does is tell me what I want to hear all day every day and bash the hell out of everyone I disagree with while still insisting that they’re unbiased. It’s a brilliant strategy that has brought them lots of viewers, but that doesn’t mean that they’re a great news organization. I’d have liked to hear Chris Wallace interview them as well. That said, why tell the viewers that this is a deliberate attempt to NOT explain to them why this military action is happening? Fox News is definitely part of the mainstream media and for all the talk on that network about being persecuted, everybody knows they make a ton of money and consistently win in the ratings. They only claim to be scrappy upstarts fighting against the broadcast channels and MSNBC/CNN because FNC management makes them gather the news and produce TV broadcasts with significantly fewer resources than their colleagues at other networks. But that’s a problem with their management’s priorities. The qualities that make them different from other big media outlets are of their own making. We don’t know if BO’R (not to be confused with the other BO) had to pre-submit his questions so Obama knew what was coming and how to answer. I wonder if anybody at the news side of FNC took a long, hard look at this study and asked themselves why they weren’t doing a better job of informing their viewers on things like.. basic facts. And there’s no reason it has to be this way, either. Ailes is brilliant, their programming looks great, they have a lot of talented people. Can they not continue to court a conservative audience and still inform them accurately? I believe they are pulling in around 33%. The rest goes to MAIN STREAM MEDIA

Consider main Stream Media as ONE entity. We hold 66% of the ratings. Plus, Fox News has lost 10% of its viewership in the past year.

Once I thought of it in those terms I did feel tremendously better. I was afraid that 50% of the nation was illiterate, bigoted, hateful and angry I thik we can deal with only 33% being ill informed and hateful. Don’t you?

I watch CNN and MSNBC regularly. The best show lately was Rachel Maddow springing into action after Hussein declared his complicity in the UN no-fly zone. Even you don’t believe that. I’ve seen announcements like this on all the news shows when some newsmaker eschews a program for someone else’s. It accomplishes two things: It calls out those who would skip the particular show to the audience of that show (and those who skipped will have to deal with the consequences –political fallout or otherwise– of their decision), and it lets viewers know that they certainly wanted and expected an appearance by someone “making the rounds” on the program. That’s not gratuitous. It’s smart.

After the attempt to SAY that Fox was not a real news network, which failed miserably and probably brought viewers to Fox, they have decide to just freeze them out.
