David Letterman Apologizes To Lindsay Lohan’s Family: ‘Hope I Didn’t Embarrass You’
As the final chapter to the thrilling saga of whether celebrity-in-peril Lindsay Lohan would or would not appear on David Letterman‘s talk show, Letterman last night admitted he was “duped” and offered an apology that his audience likely found more enjoyable than if Lohan had actually appeared to read a “Top Ten” list.
Letterman described the incident as some “guy” calling him after he joked about Lohan stealing a Grammy award (since Lohan faces criminal charges for theft), and the “guy” said “Lindsay thought that joke was hilarious – she wants to be on your show.” Some reports suggest that Lindsay’s father Michael Lohan was the culprit. Letterman said “I have no one to blame but myself and boy is my face red.”
The humorous mea culpa concluded with Letterman stating, “and by the way, now I need to apologize to the Lindsay Lohan family. I hope I didn’t embarrass you Lindsay, and your family.” The jovial tone enabled Letterman to come across sincere, while the crowd was laughing knowing that this little incident is probably the least embarrassing situation Lindsay has found herself involved with in years.
