‘My Goodness Gracious!’ CNN Data Guru Stunned by Trump’s 55-Point Plunge on Economy Among His Base

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten was so floored by President Donald Trump’s cratering approval rating that he had to double check to make sure the numbers weren’t a mistake.

In YouTube-exclusive coverage for CNN, Enten broke down where Trump stands among a key group of his voter base, white voters with no college education.

According to Fox News polling, Trump’s net favorability on the economy has fallen from 29 points positive in July 2018 to underwater by 26 points in July of this year.

“My goodness gracious,” Enten said as he looked over the numbers.

Data from CNN paints a worse situation. On net favorability when it comes to inflation among the same voters, Trump has dropped from a positive 22 points in March, 2025 to minus-38 points now, marking a whopping 60 point drop, something that shocked Enten.

“I was so surprised by this number I actually had my producer Gordon go back and check this. I thought that this was a mistake. I thought that this was an error because you never see drops — what is this…this is a 60 point drop. This is a 60 point drop in a little bit less than a year and a half!” he said.

While it wasn’t great news for Trump or Republicans, Enten made clear Democrats are faring much better on approval going into the midterms. He highlighted that Democrats are suffering from longer-term trends.

“Both parties are seen as giant turkeys,” Enten said.

Citing CBS polling, Enten pointed out that the net favorability for the Democratic Party among non-college-educated white voters has gone from negative-two points in 2012 to negative-36 points today.

“So the short term trend is not really good for Donald Trump and Republicans, but the long term trends are really, really bad for the Democratic Party. Really, really bad,” Enten said.
