Dick Armey Slams Chris Matthews: He Is “Slipping Out Of Touch With Reality” Maybe Because Of His Age

Video

Last week, MSNBC‘s Chris Matthews compared the Tea Party to the Muslim Brotherhood and predictably many were not happy. Former Congressman and active Tea Party leader Dick Armey appeared on Fox & Friends this morning to return some fire at Matthews.

Armey’s response to Matthews’ unflattering comments about the Tea Party:

“I’m kinda sad for Chris. This is the kinda uninformed pejorative that he’s been guilty of repeatedly in recent years. I don’t know whether it’s his age or what, but he just seems to be slipping out of touch with reality.”

Although Armey does think Matthews is a “fairly decent fella personally” he doesn’t understand why he’s now resorted to being in attack mode and just saying crazy things. Given that Matthews’ time slot competitor on Fox News Glenn Beck tends to get the same criticism from the opposite end of the political spectrum, maybe Matthews is very in touch with reality and merely playing up a personality he thinks might be necessary to stay competitive against Beck?

Pretty funny considering Armey CAN NEVER HOLD HIS OWN against Matthews (or anyone else, or that matter) on his show. Let’s see him say that to Matthews’ face.

Which part of “liberalism” don’t you like?

Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis, “of freedom”)[1] is the belief in the importance of liberty and equal rights.[2] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but most liberals support such fundamental ideas as constitutions, liberal democracy, free and fair elections, human rights, capitalism, free trade, and the freedom of religion.[3][4][5][6][7] These ideas are widely accepted, even by political groups that do not openly profess a liberal ideological orientation. Liberalism encompasses several intellectual trends and traditions, but the dominant variants are classical liberalism, which became popular in the eighteenth century, and social liberalism, which became popular in the twentieth century.

Although Matthews and the other personalities on MSNBC, like to believe they are among America’s most intellectual, the bottom line is that most of their viewer base comes from America’s underclass/uneducated. The holier-than-thou ‘elitist’ white liberals in DC, in the media, and in Hollywood, make up only a small portion of the Dem party, while 90% of the Dem voter base is the poor underclass/uneducated minorities. The dolts on MSNBC are well aware that their audience majority, is the underclass, which explains their less than intellectual rhetoric. Matthews and Maddow; simple clowns playing to a simple audience. LOL.

Wow. Spoken like an elitist if ever there was one. Or … are you just one of the more sentient underclass letting the rest of us know that even simple folk can’t be fooled all of the time?

Since your grasp of demographics is so superficial, we’ll go with #2. And, while we’re on a roll, let’s guess: You’re also an afficionado of those smart high-brow fellows over at Fox.

I was once on the Central Line going from Shepherd’s Bush to Oxford Circus. A naked man boarded at Holland Park and was removed by some very kind policemen, armed with a hooded bathrobe, at Marble Arch. The naked man looked very much like your avatar. Of course, I know he wasn’t you, and you don’t seem to be prone to such activity. It made for an interesting commute.

I don’t agree with the Tea Party movement, and I don’t really like how Fox News portrays actually news, but Chris Matthews has been going a bit insane. Even as a liberal, it’s kind of hard to watch. He needs to attract new viewers, but instead he’s just speaking into an echo chamber.

I really don’t care what Dick Army says, but Chris Matthews has been going a bit insane. Rachel Maddow is a lot less biased, and isn’t rude. She speaks her mind, and she has guests on where she is at least civil. Chris Matthews acts like uncivilized baboon. He didn’t used to be this way, but perhaps he’s trying to copy Glenn Beck or something – I don’t know, it’s hard to make excuses for this guy anymore.

Classical liberalism is not the same thing as progressivism aka statism aka aka state capitalism aka social democracy aka fascism. The Left commandeered the liberal label nearly a century ago and turned it into something to be despised, so now they call themselves “progressives”. And that’s not working out too well for them either.

The two main political philosophies are individualism (sometimes called libertarianism) and everything else. If you call yourself a liberal, but believe in a big government that controls our daily lives to an ever-increasing extent, then you are not a classical liberal but instead a socialist or fascist.

The Tea Party is not good for America, but there is no reason to compare them to the Muslim Brotherhood. Obviously, some people use hyperbole to generate a response, but the Tea Party is full of negative energy, with no solutions, and just complaints. Spending less and creating a smaller government is not a solution unless there are actual specifics stated of how that is supposed to happen. The Tea Party incites hate, violence, and intolerance bringing in social issues when they should be focused on economic reform.

Without a clinical diagnosis, we don’t really know why Chris Matthews has gone round the bend. Senility affects different people at different ages.

As for Dick Armey, he’s still very sharp mentally for a man of his age. Armey was never the most charismatic speaker, but he’s still just the farm kid from North Dakota who earned a PhD in economics, was a university professor and then a congressman. He was a spokesman for the tea party movement before there was a tea party movement.

What is the point of going to a meeting when they have elected officials that have stated their political stance which is: “Spending is bad, but we’ll do nothing about it but complain until we’re blue in the face”. I don’t like ignorance, and unfortunately the Tea Party is full of ignorant people, and I’m not just being rude or stereotypical, this is based on numerous polls that were taken by individuals that identify themselves as supporters of the Tea Party movement.

    Here are some actual statistics:

    - Sixty-four percent believe that the president has increased taxes for most Americans, despite the fact that the vast majority of Americans got a tax cut under the Obama administration.

    - Twenty-four percent of Tea Party supporters say it is sometimes justified to take violent action against the government.

    - Sixty-three percent say they get the majority of their political and current events news on television from the Fox News Channel, compared to 23 percent of Americans overall.

    - Thirty percent of Tea Party supporters believe Mr. Obama was born in another country, despite ample evidence to the contrary. Another 29 percent say they don’t know.

    - Fifty-two percent believe too much has been made of the problems facing black people. Far fewer Americans overall — 28 percent — believe as much.

As a whole the Tea Party is full of gun owning, Fox watching, misinformed individuals. How going to a rally would solve anything is beyond me.

I’m not a fan of Matthews, but he’s neither a liberal nor a conservative. His angle is sucking up to the party in power, and he clearly is betting on the Dems rightly or wrongly, but he will soon enough shift around. Have a look at his interviews 1998-2006 with Tom Delay, they are fawning in the extreme. Also, his tingle up the leg moment was nothing compared to his orgasms over Bush landing on the Carrier on “Mission Accomplished” day.

That said, keep working the liberalism as a mental disorder angle. There have been studies at those durned Elitist Universities showing that liberal and conservative outlooks are determined by brain structure and chemistry. Conservatives tend to be more reactive to fear, and unable to deal with uncertainly and unpredictablility. Also, the book “Conservatives without Conscience” started by discouraged Republicans Barry Goldwater and John Dean (and finished by Dean after Goldwater’s passing) cites a number of studies showing that conservatives in America are anchored in the 23-28% of any large population that crave an authoritarian leader and a broadly demonized “other” to rally against. In totalitarian Left states like North Korea, China or the former USSR, these were the party types, but in the US, they are overwhelmingly GOP to the core. Grab the book, it’s a good read.

A collection of idiots that don’t have the faintest idea how to run a country for all of us, but they will do great for the rich… Yes the country is suffering right now, but it sure isn’t all the fault of us liberals, there was Reagan and Bush to thank for a great majority of the problems we now have and don’t give me the bs about the Democrats being in charge of the house and senate during some of our worst times in this country. They (Tea Party supporters) are better educated than most Americans: 37 percent are college graduates, compared to 25 percent of Americans overall. They also have a higher-than-average household income, with 56 percent making more than $50,000 per year.

What is self reported and what is reality are most often two very different things. Sort of what the tea-baggers are all about. The tea-bag loons are obviously among the severe learning disabled in this country. Perhaps the most severe learning disabled sub-group of idiots ever. Don’t believe me? Read the comments from tea-baggers on this site – scintillating. And let’s not forget Palin, Beck and Bachmann, the three tea-bag-stooges. But their (tea-baggers) utter ignorance of everything is what makes them so much fun and an embarrassment to America. Hope this helps.

Yup. They’re college educated, unfortunately it doesn’t make them any smarter. The bottom line is that they don’t have a proposal to help the US. They simple rally up with no specific changes in mind.

“Eighty-eight percent disapprove of President Obama’s performance on the job, compared to 40 percent of Americans overall. While half of Americans approve of Mr. Obama’s job performance, just seven percent of Tea Party supporters say he is doing a good job.

Asked to volunteer what they don’t like about Mr. Obama, the top answer, offered by 19 percent of Tea Party supporters, was that they just don’t like him.”

Let me reiterate : The #1 reason why they don’t like Obama is – they “just don’t like him”. Does that sound reasonable to you?Unfortunately, it sounds more they have a grievance with who he is rather than the policies he tries to employ.

Another fact: “Fifty-two percent believe too much has been made of the problems facing black people. Far fewer Americans overall — 28 percent — believe as much. Among non-Tea Party whites, the percentage who say too much attention has been paid to the problems of black people is 23 percent.”

That’s more than double the national average. Reading the profile of a tea partier makes anyone think that the majority of them are gun toting, fox news watching, racist & potentially violent individuals that don’t like a black man as president simply because — they just don’t like him.

Does anyone else think that Dicks hat is far too big for his micro-cephalic head? It just seems that Dicks head would be better suited to something vinyl or perhaps sheep’s skin. Not to say that Dicks head is too small for the cowboy hat but perhaps Dicks head is better suited for a simple, small cotton hat. Preferably in orange.

    LOL I don’t know I drink a lot…

I’m not a fan of Matthews, but he’s neither a liberal nor a conservative.

You, my friend, couldn’t be more wrong.

What do you know – you’re an obvious idiot.

You may need Matthews to be a liberal to make it easier to classify people you don’t like, but, like many who have spent too much time in the DC/NY corridor, Matthews allegence is to power and money. He will suction his way toward anyone he thinks is gaining power in hopes of expanding his own influence and wealth.

I don’t think a true liberal would declare, on seeing Dubya waddle around the flight deck in his flight suit on “Mission Accomplished” day in 2003 that he had never been as proud of a Commander in Chief as he was at that moment. Also, give a listen to the leaked tapes of him talking off air to Tom Delay in 2006 before an MSNBC spot, when he gushes about what an admirer he is of Delay’s, how much he owes Delay as a friend, and then joins Delay in some Clinton bashing. Matthews was also a big critic of Bill Clinton and later Hilary…
I guarantee the next time the GOP has control of Capital Hill he will be a huge fan again.

This is a business venture for Armey (the entire tea bagger creation), so it’s no surprise he’d take such offense at a worthy comparison.

That’s all well and good, but like Armey you’re focusing on the person (ad hominem) rather than the point he made.

Let’s face it. Matthews is a whore who fawns on those he thinks are, or will be, the winners. Armey is a classic “all hat and no cattle ” blowhard buffoon who is bought and paid for by the Koch bros., or whoever is buying the astroturf he’s peddling. Talk about the pot calling the kettle. Hell, they deserve each other.

The first time I saw Chris Mathews was during the campaign when he appeared on Jay Leno as a guest to discuss the election. At one point, Chris went to the front of the stage and “Ordered the American people to vote for Barrack Obama”. That was the moment for me when Chis Mathews set in stone the presiding and pedantic personality he still exhibits today. He is older now and you wonder if he really believes in the way out things he says or whether he just wants to stay afloat on television with sensationalism propping him up. He keeps damming the tea party as Sarah Palin as a modern day success story eats his lunch. How many discussions in this country on a daily basis surround Chris Mathews. Also, I never got what was that thing that he keeps saying went up his leg when he first laid eyes on his hero Obama. I formed a small journalism business and retired from my long term government job several years ago. I think Chris Mathews is at an age and position as a commenter where he should be thinking of university condos by the lake. Not too many people, I think would stand in his way.
