Fox News Brings Ed Rollins On Board As Contributor

At some point next week, veteran political strategist Ed Rollins will join Fox News as a contributor. Celeste Katz and Alison Gendar of The Daily News broke the story late Thursday, and a Fox spokesperson confirms to move to Mediaite.

Rollins has worked a total of six presidential campaigns, including those for Mike Huckabee, Ross Perot, and Ronald Reagan. In early September, he resigned as campaign manager for Michele Bachmann. A native of Boston, Mass., Rollins is one of eight members of the Political Consultants Hall of Fame. Acting as Reagan’s campaign manager in 1984, Rollins led the incumbent to a landslide victory, garnering Reagan more electoral votes than any other President in history.

For a taste of Rollins’ media style, check out his appearance last week on Alec Baldwin’s Here’s The Thing podcast, from New York’s WNYC radio.

UPDATE: An earlier version of this story reported that Rollins would be joining Fox as a correspondent. His role will be as a contributor.

Perfect for Rollins – because on FNC he will sound smarter, like a deep thinker or something, rather than like an   over-the-hill gang survivor, a manipulator, a rightwing political operative who was involved peripherally in one losing streak with Reagan and has managed to parlay that into an illusion of competence through over two decades, more than a generation, of consistently picking losers and making them worse off than when they hired him. He looked all of that on CNN and msnbc and the Sunday GOP talk shows, but as regular of FNC, even an incompetent reactionary nutjob halfwit like “Judge” Andrew Napolitano gets treated like some sort of constitutional genius.

Nice thing about Rollins is that he articulates in full sentences (something that works against him on CNN and msnbc, because just doing that betrays him as a hack), which maybe might start a trend on FNC.

Ed will really be able to whack himself with his right wing over there at Fox.

Let me be the first to stop calling him a RINO now that he’s working for FOX.

I have always liked Ed Rollins. He’s a Republican, but not an ideologue. Quite the busy man. He’s pretty much on all the cable news shows.

and you’ll still just be posting comments on this blog…

I don’t know what he did for Reagan, but he has been a disaster for everybody else, as far as I know.  Apparently his MO is to join the campaign, then bail at a critical juncture, letting the campaign collapse.

Ed Rollins teabagged Michele Bachmann before she could teabag him. A smart move on his part.

For the youngsters, Ed Rollins was like Karl Rove, except Ed didn’t invite gay prostitutes posing as online journalists to stay overnight at the White House.

Rollins has a screw loose somewhere.

Great!  This guy is so used up!  Supporter for Prez of Buchanan, Gingrich. Ross Perot, both BushDrunks, Palin, McShame, Bachman…the list goes on & on.  Terrific intellectual track record.

I disagreed with Ed Rollins on alot of issues but I still had an enormous amount of respect for the man.  He was one of the few conservatives left who would agree to disagree with someone on the left, as it should be. But going to this phony news outfit loses his standing among his peers. That’s ashame.
