Fox News’ Major Garrett To Interview President Obama (Update: Or Not?)

developing

garrett_10-12In one of the first truly significant steps in the new relationship between the White House and Fox News, Fox News confirms to Mediaite White House correspondent Major Garrett will interview Pres. Barack Obama next week.

The news was first reported by DrudgeReport.com.

From Drudge:

Obama Grants FOXNEWS Interview — Day After Anita Dunn Steps Down… MORE…
DRUDGE has learned, Major Garrett will conduct interview in China next week…

Yes, Anita Dunn will be stepping down, but the fact that this sit-down interview is happening may simply be the next step in the tamping down of White House vs. Fox News feuding. Garrett has always been seen as a fair member of FNC by the White House, despite being very much a part of the back and forth.

For what it’s worth, we had Garrett interviewing Obama at 10:1 odds in our Mediaite Oddsmakers post last month.

> Update: The White House tells Politico: “We’ve not committed to doing any presidential interviews during the trip to Asia with any outlets at this point,” and Drudge’s report is “not accurate.”

We’ll have more on this as we get it…

What’s a Drudge? Is that anything like a Guckert or Gannon?

When the WH decides when and how to provide Fox an interview, rest assured they know it won’t be a Hume or Wallace Cheney tongue bath interview.

  • ImNotBlue ImNotBlue says:

No, for that Jim… he’d have to go back to MSNBC.

  • Sunnyr Sunnyr says:

I will watch it because of Major Garrett. Not that I find anything the other BOOB has to say is the least bit interesting or worthwhile.

  • Dottie from Pa Dottie from Pa says:

Major would not lie. I think the WH DID say that he would be interviewing Obama and all of it was a set up to make major look like a liar, and make FOX look like fools. The WH is the biggest liar and loser in the country. ha!

  • Vidiot Vidiot says:

Major Garrett’s an actual reporter, so good for him for getting the interview. (Anita Dunn, whatever you think of her, did point out in October that Garrett is far fairer than Fox News as an organization is.)

The Seven Best (Or, Somewhat Memorable) Moments Of The Jay Leno Show

    video

After 95 episodes, the epic failure known as The Jay Leno Show airs its final episode tonight. Of course, Leno himself will be back after the Olympics, comfortably at 11:35pm all over again. Which was pretty much the problem to begin with - the 10pm offering started as a similar product to the Tonight Show, and only became more like the old format as time went on.

No Surprise Here: FNC Dominates Ratings For Palin Tea Party Speech

    ratings

    • With all three cable news networks carrying Sarah Palin's tea party speech and Q&A after on Saturday night, Fox News was the clear winner in the ratings. During the 9pmET hour, FNC had more viewers in the A25-54 demographic than MSNBC, CNN and HLN combined. In total viewers, Fox News had more than double the combined total of the other three cablers.
