Jon Stewart Mocks Obama Campaign Video: From ‘Yes We Can’ To ‘You Know, Whatever’

video

To no one’s surprise, Barack Obama announced earlier today that he will seek a second term in the 2012 election, complete with promotional video featuring demographically diverse voters just like one and I. Perhaps more surprising was the degree of enjoyment that Daily Show host Jon Stewart took in ruthlessly ridiculing the Obama video, and yes, his failed promises of transparency in his first term.

As we’ve noticed before, when it comes to this White House, Stewart is not necessarily the strict left-of-center ideologue that he’s made out to be by right-of-center commentators; The Daily Show has mined the alleged hypocrisies, gaffes and foibles that have come from this administration for strong comedic material. But the following clip appears to be a tad harsher, perhaps foretelling a critical narrative for the coming election coverage?

John is a liberal for sure. They can just be really nasty with people who they think aren’t “liberal enough”. Huff post is filled with them. Yet most of them will still vote for Obama in 2012.

  • Alz

    Stewart’s a lib – and nothing more.

  • murf

    Keep the change .

Doubt anyone was watching tonight with the game on. Boy, that performance by Butler was the worst thing out of Indiana since the last Gordon Bloyer video. AmIrite????

  • slickerwick

    Devastating.

  • BarneyFranken

BFD, Garth and the other losers on here are in a pickle…

If they agree with Stewart, then they have to admit that Obama has a horrible track record on transparency…

(yes worse than Bush so dont bother going there)

Or if they want to deny that reality, they go against Stewart, who is “the most trusted man in America” and is as close to a God as they believe in.

    Whats a lib to do?

  • btimsah

From yes we can to oh no you didn’t.

    That video WAS soooooo bad.

Hire whoever makes Palin’s vids. Get with the program O. :)

LOL really, Jon is doing what he does best. Political comedy/satire and unlike conservatives, libs like an inside joke. And they can laugh at themselves.

Devasting? Not hardly, but friendly criticism? Definitely,

It’s gonna be rich ( pardon the pun ) when the leftists blowhards start bitching about the Koch bros and other private donors , when Obama’s warchest is said to set a new record of 1 billion +.

No diversion here. I also think Butler played poorly and that Gordon Bloyer is a joke.

People have lots of those my brotha.

I think conservatives need to take a long hard look at the fact that Harry Reid got re-elected and do some pretty deep soul searching. If you want a great look at a pathetic democrat Ol’ Harry is about as good as it gets. Yet, they nominated someone to replace him that was SOOOO F*CKING CRAZY that he got six more years.

Obama can be beaten. Jon Stewart pretty deftly shows how the grassroots enthusiasm probably won’t be there this time. And the conservative who is going to oust him is………..*crickets*

That’s what these rabid guys just cannot and do not get. I voted for Obama because he was the best choice at the time. But that doesn’t mean I’ll defend him to the end of the earth. I’ll call out attacks on him that are from crazyville, but that doesn’t mean I think he;s doing a good job. Give me a credible candidate and I’ll pull the lever for the R. I think Mitch Daniels is a very credible guy. He;s to the right of me politically, but he is a qualified guy and he’s shown he knows what he is doing. But he has also called for a social truce. So he may be dead in the water.

Most of these guys would vote for Hubert Humphrey against Obama. There is no reason to put up a crazy people if the Republicans want moderates to vote for them. (and sorry–I am a moderate). I was wrestling with which way to vote in 2008 until McCain nominated the crazy lady.

But, now back to calling a me librul. Whatever.

As a librul, I was not a huge fan of John McCain, but he always struck me as a good and decent public servant. I especially felt for him after he got a big whiff of Turd Blossom in the 2000 GOP primary. Then, to motivate the same kind of people that ate up that bullshit scam, he brought in Mama Grizzly, the Airborne Wolf Hunter. As of now it looks like Sarah Palin could be a big part of his legacy. It’s like some sort of Greek tragedy.

War #3: Lybia: I am against it.

I won’t give Obama a pass just because I voted for him. I know in the paranoid place that is your head that is how you see us, but there are far more people who’ll vote him out. But we aren’t voting for a nutcase,

You can read, right? That was said by Ganymede.

I am certain that I am more liberal than you or Crumb. I mock the term “librul” that is thrown about. I am a moderate in the rational word. I find guys like you (specifically you) amusing. I actually enjoy reading Conservative thought. But I find that movement has morphed from an idea movement to an identity movement. It is no longer about having better ideas than the left. It is now just us against them (whatever that means in a given day). If a Democrat has taken power then it is some evil scheme (or trickery) that did it.

I found it sloppy when the Republicans did it during the Clinton years. I found it just as bad when the left refused to accept Bush’s election in 2000. And I am just as annoyed by it with Obama.

I appreciate that Crumb can at least enjoy reading someone with whom he doesn’t agree.

Interesting parallel to ponder: Both Clinton and Bush were wildly unpopular unpopular with the other team and they ended up running against blah candidates. You see anyone in the Republican field that both lights up the place and isn’t crazy? Maybe TPaw. Maybe? Romney? If he doesn’t spend a year pandering to the crazies. After that? Eh.

So again, discount me all you want because you think you don’t like my politics. No worries.

you surely know how the left or Obama’s base behaves. “the left is deserting him” and “they feel betrayed.”
since you seem to know the left that well. but the question is, where is the left going? the GOP? join the teabaggers? primary Obama? who from the left or the dems will challenge Obama? Hillary? or the left will simply sit out the election like enthusiasm gap? vote for manson as teabagger Jaurez suggested?

I love the fact that for the longest time, we’ve heard from the conservative members of this site that “Jon Stewart is such an Obama shill”, and “Stewart is on his knees for Obama”, etc.

We’ve seen many instances of Stewart mocking and going after the President to show that he’s not exactly a shill that they think he is. Sure, Jon is a liberal, he doesn’t hide it. So he supports liberal ideas. But as has been proven time and again, Stewart doesn’t follow lockstep with Obama.

Now, it’s “Stewart is going after Obama, which means he’s so far left that Obama’s liberal enough for him”, or whatever else they can say to attack Stewart.

It looks like Jon Stewart has crawled under some peoples’ skin. If he joined this site, he could use the name “Conservative Tormentor”.

Jon Stewart got in a few really funny jokes. Isn’t it amazing that not one of the conservative trolls could even give him props for being funny or balanced for attacking Obama’s record?

Meanwhile, the things he is doing that disappoint his base should make Republicans jump for joy. And yet, they won’t even give him credit for doing things they applauded Bush for doing.

Conservatives hate Obama so much, they abandon all reason and integrity and attack him even when he does what they want. What are you going to do with the upcoming Republican proposal to make massive cuts to medicare (after attacking health care reform claiming it would result in massive cuts to Medicare)?

What will you tea baggers, who screamed “keep your damn government hands off my medicare?” do now? Are you truly that insane to support a party that has promised to privatize and ultimately kill the one program that works for seniors?

Or will you finally support Obama if he has to veto such a budget?

There is a big difference between the two.

Bush loves America and did whatever he could to keep us safe from harm.

Obama is merely an imposter who believes America is the evil empire.

He changes his position against his own will, simply for the purposes of political expediency and whoring for votes.

He doesn’t stand a chance this time around…..thank God and the ” real ” American people.

Obamo’s is a failed presidency, we all agree. Even his ‘signature legislation’ eponymously named ‘ObamoCare’ comes with an asterisk attached saying the whole Effing thing is constitutional. I quite enjoy seeing Obamo kicked in the ass and having the pitchforks pointed AT him rather than BY him.

Oh, the extra bonus is that Liberalism and Keynesian thought are both failures, too. A near-suicidal Paul Krugman is our barometer there.

This is Jon Stewart’s brilliant way of telling President Obama that, if he acts like Bush, he’ll get treated like Bush. Liberal American is lucky to have Stewart around to help advise President Obama. The President, after all, already has America’s Conservatives poking endless fun at his administration, if he keeps shifting right, he’ll have Stewart, Maher, Colbert, and the rest, turning on him between now and the 2012 elections. Obama will not see a second term, if Liberals start poking “endless” fun at his administration too. This was a comedic shot “across the bow”.

O-bomb-a is virtually no different than President Bu$h. These two mainstream parties are the same coin with slightly different sides – but they are pretty much the same. President Obama hasn’t changed a damn thing, he’s only doubled down on big government neocon policies and it is hurting this country. But as partisans, many of us just can’t admit it when their “side” is wrong.

Americans have the right to expect that their government should be able to balance a check book, and live within their means. Americans have the right to question their government when we are thrown into “kinetic military operations” (f&cking war). American’s have the right to question tax policies.

When even a slobbering worshipper, like Jon Stewart turns against him, Obama must be starting to get some sleepless nights.

How long before the current Secretary of State decides to pack it in and start a primary challenge? Her husband already stepped up diplomatically and smoothly, mind you, but make no mistake the road to re-election will not be smooth.

And the greatest worry will not come from Republicans.

Obama is a politician and turns with the wind. He knows that the left will never leave him. Their vote he will get no matter what. Democrats never jump ship. Not smart enough to know when ship is sinking. Of course he’s playing to the independents. The media will look like theyre against him so that the right and independents think that he has gone to the center. This MAN has and continues to play games with our nation. Not to protect or ensure a more perfect union but to get himself reelected. Obama is the worst of politician… He’s from Chicago! Need I say anymore. Obama says. “are you in”. Stewart is actually true to his leftist credentials (in advocating for more transparent government, for example), and is merely pointing out where Obama has departed from this leftist line. Stewart is not afraid to criticize Obama, so one could say that he is not an ideologue, but to claim that he is not so far to the Left as commentators on the Right have claimed does not follow.

  • mlb

This was hilarious! The media has been making a mockery of Obama’s ‘transparency’ since he took office and of course, ever since they had to go through the WH trash to find out any real news, including visitors. Stewart wasn’t staying true to the left, he was actually stating glaring facts that have now become so redundant it has become a joke. Instead of trailblazing a new standard for ‘transparency’ this WH is has gone even further than any president in the age of media to go backwards.

Yes, that’s true, since the word “we” actually means the 40% of the population that consistently votes Republican. The word” failed” means taking the mess made by Bush over 8 years and only being able to avert complete destruction of the country. And, of course, the word “agree” means the setting new records for the most fractured, bitter partisan divide in the country’s history. it’s all black and white with you trolls. Except for the fact that black means white, except when you decide black means black.

Clinton said this to justify bombing some suspected strategic targets and pressure Hussein into allowing the UN Weapons inspectors back into Iraq.

Bush could have done exactly the same thing, but used doctored intelligence to justify starting an illegal and unnecessary war. Even worse, the little criminal had a perfectly good war going in Afghanistan that had bipartisan support. All he had to do was catch Osama bin Laden, but within three months, he told the American people “I don’t spend any time thinking about bin Laden” and turned the war machinein the direction of Iraq.

Your post is breathtakingly absent of any consistent logic or understanding of the facts.

Finally, one conservative out of the 131 comments seemed to laugh at Stewart’s bit. Congratulations, sir. Here’s the other part about humor. When you see something that is hypocritical or insane, even ONCE, it can be turned into a joke. That is what Jon Stewart does.

The only problem is that there is so much glaring hypocrisy and insanity on the right, conservatives provide most of the material for a show. But then, it’s not funny, right? It’s just Stewart being a hateful lefty radical attacking your beloved patriotic brethren.

Everyone should be able to laugh at themselves and their side. There is plenty of ridiculous speech and behavior to go around. The thing is whether the comedian can fashion it into a good joke with timing and punch, like Stewart or Colbert, rambles on unconsciously hoping to make a funny reference once in a while (Dennis Miller) or takes mediocre jokes and beats them to death (Leno, Letterman).

And then there are people who think Obama as bin Laden political posters, or fat Michelle Obama cartoons where she screams “shut up and pass the bacon” are high humor, right up there with fart jokes and videos of guys getting hit in the nuts with baseball bats or flying projectiles.

To each his own. Enjoy :)

It does follow, because Jon has been accused of being a liberal shill for the administration. Then, when he seriously critisizes the admin, there’s some need to find another xslant to critisize him, rather than ackniowledge his honesty.
