Mayor Bloomberg: NYC Bomb Suspect Could Be Someone Who “Didn’t Like Health Bill”

Chief amongst the many questions that that still are left unanswered regarding the failed car bomb last Saturday night is who would do such a thing. While the Pakistan Taliban have claimed responsibility, experts remain skeptical. Some have surmised that the car’s proximity to the headquarters of Comedy Central’s parent company Viacom is a clue. But on tonight’s CBS Evening News Mayor Mike Bloomberg suggested that it may be someone who simply didn’t like the health care bill.

Oh sure, besides the fact that all evidence points to foreign terrorists. He must be giddy for a Cabinet seat.

  • Grammie

This has got to be a joke, right?

  • NORBIT

He was referencing it as a random example; and it’s totally DISINGENUOUS for Mediaite to exploit what he said with such a sensationalized headline!

  • Colby Hall

Its disingenuous to quote what he said?

Kind of a strange comment, no?

  • SteveMG

Bloomberg put his foot in his mouth. Since he doesn’t know the motivation (no one does right now), just say, “I don’t know what the motivation for this was but we’re working to capture the individual or individuals who did it and we’ll do everything to protect the people of New York. Vote for me.”

Is that so hard to say? Okay, he can edit out that last part.

K I have no words for that one.

  • TfT

The perky one got the soundbite she wanted; Bloomberg will backtrack, but in the meantime, it just shows what idiots they both are.

Well… while we are trowing wild guesses into the air, why not believe also that that the failed terrorist attack could have had been perpetrated by somebody… that doesn’t that doesn’t like Michael Bloomberg?

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

    ^^^ Nice.

    Give the baby a bottle.

Hmmm – Bloomberg gets his info from NYPD. Smelling more and more like a McVeigh or a Joseph “Tea Party” Stack.

  • felixw

Yep, Mr. Adkins, you will soon be telling us that Roger Ailes masterminded the car bomb, with a little help from Rupert Murdoch.

  • timzank

adkins…leaning more towards bloomie & the nypd as opposed to the messiah and his administration?

Meanwhile, for those of you sadly hoping this near-miss tragedy fits your political agenda so you can use it to prove some twisted point — the NYT is reporting the buyer of the Pathfinder and person of interest was a Pakistani naturalized citizen who just came back from a trip to Pakistan.

  • Sunnyr

Bloomberg is a flippin’ IDIOT! He is going to be disappointed to find out the guy is a naturalized citizen who recently returned from Pakistan, where he flunked “bomb-making 101.”

no Colby, it’s not, but like Norbit said before you replied, it is disingenuous to quote ANYONE when you fail to put the quote in proper perspective. bloomberg said it as just an example but you failed to tell the reader that and used his quote just for linkbate. i saw this video earlier and i just had a feeling you guys would take that bait and guess what…you did. you’re quickly turning into politico for dummies and that’s saying a lot. congrats?

example: colby said he likes diet coke.

my article: colby hall is for the death of bamboo because he likes diet coke.

see how hard that was colby? hell, i probably just gave you a writing tip.

  • writer

Adkins, the guy must have been from the Pakistani tea party, right? Why this blind rush to blame everything on the tea party, no matter what the evidence says? You don’t even care how ridiculous it makes you look?

  • MichelleF

    Bill, you there buddy?

  • felixw

That’s why Shahzad Faisal was trying to get out of the country. He wanted to flee Obamacare. Hey, a guy like Bloomberg, with direct info from the NYPD, couldn’t get something like this wrong, huh?

  • Grammie

Bloomberg is now warning that any backlash against Pakistanis/muslims will not be tolerated.

Gee, does this mean that if it had turned out to an anti-healthcare guy any potential backlash against Repubs, Tea Partiers etc wouldn’t be so bad?

    Just askin.

DISINGENUOUS? They just quoted what he said, NORBIT.

He’s the mayor for NYC, he VERY WELL knew those words would be quoted. He’s the mayor of NYC, for goodness sake. It was a DISINGENUOUS attempt to pair American Health Care with a negative association.

Not that Colby needs me to defend him, but you’ve somehow missed that he didn’t make an assumption based on what Bloomberg said and make that his headline (which you do in your example). He took exactly what Bloomberg said and made that his headline.

example: Bloomberg says could be someone who didn’t like health bill
headline: Bloomberg says could be someone who didn’t like health bill
