Mitt Romney Fires His Breakfast On SNL

video

Last week on Saturday Night Live we heard from surprise second place primary finisher Rick Santorum, and this week New Hampshire primary winner Mitt Romney kicked off the show with a personal message to voters from “Jim-Bob’s kitchen,” a diner in South Carolina. The sketch was predicated on Romney’s total inability to engage in the folksy patter that voters like to see from their presidential candidates, and his tendency to instead do things like make offensive assumptions about people’s ages! Despite taking care to mention details like that of his “human sons,” Romney’s attempt to explain away his “I like firing people” gaffe was unsuccessful…mostly because it didn’t make much sense.

The writing for Santorum’s cold open felt stronger to me, and this sketch got boring fast (also, Jason Sudeikis really seemed to be phoning it in). Although it is Mitt Romney, so perhaps that was the point? Well played, SNL.

You can watch the full sketch here via NBC:

Oh wow!! No way!!! SNL just made fun of a Republican. Didn’t see that coming. Boy that SNL, they sure are original.

Fun Fact:  The Obama’s have a higher net worth then the Romney’s.

    ROLL DAMN TIDE

That’s a very bad impersonation of me.  I would like to be able to fire whomever did that for making me appear so abnormal.

Do conservatives have to lie about everything?

If Corporations are people my friend then Mitt Romany is the Ted Bundy of the financial sector…Giving unsuspecting Companies and Workers a ride then leaving there dead bodies in roadside ditches…No wounder Republicans are nervous…The American People are closing in on this Wallstreeter.

Ahhhhh, Sunday morning, and a new round of stories from SNL.
What is it with Mediaite and SNL?

  • Hout Bosques

“Do conservatives have to lie about everything?”
This relates to the ongoing online debate over Arthur Brisbane’s “Truth Vigilante” post the Grey Poupon Times:

http://publiceditor.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/12/should-the-times-be-a-truth-vigilante/ It's a particularly interesting brace of questions to consider at Mediaite, because this joint operates as the Maginot Line of American political pot shoots. Despite that there’s really no reason or point (or enthusiasm, that we know of) for remaining a Mediaite “lurker”, anyone who raises her or his head out of the trenches here draws snipe fire (It’s so ingrained in the Mediaite culture, the clutch of personalities sporting the Gloves Donahue tatoo frequently madly cackles his own cover fire.).The cheap (a.k.a. standard) Mediaite-head response will range from a mix of outrage & pre-fab rationalized apoplexy from der vinger korps, to simply “Yes” from the reality-biased colony – tho, since this is Mediaite, graphing the beastly result would end up looking a hell of a lot less dromedary than bactrian.

I offer an alternative – that the question can be answered by reposing it, as this:

Do conservatives have to tell the truth about anything?

If you study your Orwell, graphing the answers becomes more bell-like in appearance, plus a more nuanced, as well as useful, affirmative emerges: for. if cons don’t tell or concede at least SOME truth, their style of lying dissembles as pure childish nonsense drivel & doesn’t work at all.

This is exemplified in the Rmoney Stump Speech, where Mittens (Note that reliable polling shows ~75% of a sample of registered voters reflecting actual divisions in voter registration believe his claimed “first name” of “Mitt” is short for the actual name “Mittens”) throws in some truth-telling, tho mostly half-hearted (or half-witted) & in an apparent effort to allow more room for acceptance of the connected lie.

(There seems to be a volumetric relationship – that the size & lines of the proffered ‘truth’ has a basic 3 dimensional relationship to the size of the attempted lie it connects to, as in: the more reality-based the concession, the more likely it is that Mittens is about to deliver a really ‘uge whopper of a fibbins.)

So – why is this debate raging NOW? I think it’s because:

    (1) the Republican brand, already in trouble from BushCo, is now in even deeper do-do from all that tea the Congressional Rrrrs mainlined over the period from about the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2009, to the point that they’re now suffering from a combination of dependency & withdrawal, &

    (2) the champion they fear they’re in the process of resigning themselves to, the estimable Willard Mittens Rmoney, is one of those spectacularly unhip creatures peculiar to the Rrrr party who invest heavily in tulip futures right after the bubble bursts, & pick up on an Elvis d.a. just as the Beatles are making their second appearance on the Sullivan Show – IOW, a classic leader-from-behind.

This cycle, the msm is going to be awarding so many Pants On Fire ratings during the general election, it’s going to end up being known as the Burning Man campaign.

  • Hout Bosques

That’s a tough game – so many unwritten rules, only the 0.1% get to make them up, &  the 1 % get to read them.

  • Hout Bosques

This is going to become a bigger & bigger problem for Willard Mittens Rmoney. The ‘smart’ money is on the problems for why he’s not doing it laying in the “deferred earned interest” he got & is still getting from Bain CC, but I actually think there’s a far scarier thing there: I’m guessing here, but I think it may have something to do with his relationship to the Mormon church; that is, I’m thinking that a fair display of his tax returns & holdings portfolio shows he’s been a front man for Mormon church investments from day uno.

  • Hout Bosques

One of the worst SNL shows ever, maybe the worst ever – so bad, this half-cooked skit in that context of poor skits actually ends up looking like one of the better ones.

Willard_Mittens, are you the father of Caylee Anthony?

They say it will take a good scandal to stop you from getting the nomination.

Maybe you are the Long Island serial killer?

The SNL boss and writers are liberal jews, right? Like most late night writers, right? We can talk about that, right? The way we do conservative Christians, right?

Good comedy requires an element of truth.  This isn’t funny, they know
it’s not funny, but I guess they’re in the business of cranking out
something and this was the best they could come up with.

I’d like to be able to fire them.

Sarah, If you actually listen to the whole comment Romney made about this non issue instead of the taken out of context snippets it might even make sense to you!!
Then again, I am sure you have no intention of actually knowing the truth or letting your readers know the truth because you didn’t even include a link to what he actually said!!
    More quality work by Mediaite!!

Any SNL skits last night based on some of the stories from Jodi Kantor’s book on the Obamas that was in the headlines last week, like Gibbs’ tirade or the secret Alice in Wonderland celeb Halloween party? Didn’t think so, because in the minds of most of the SNLwriters, you couldn’t possibly wring any comedy out of either of those situations.
