Monday Cable Ratings: CNN Beats Fox in Demo in 3 of 4 Prime Time Hours
CNN’s wall-to-wall Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 coverage continued to pay dividends for the network Monday night when three out of four programs in the 7-11pm prime time schedule beat their Fox News competition in the 25-54 demo. While Bill O’Reilly broke Anderson Cooper’s demo winning streak at 8pm, CNN won the demo at 7pm, 9pm and 10pm.
At 7pm, Erin Burnett OutFront average 375K in the demo to On The Record with Greta Van Susteren’s 342K. At 9pm, Piers Morgan Live, with possibly permanent fill-in host Bill Weir had 383K to The Kelly File’s 365K. Then at 10pm, CNN’s continued plane coverage anchored by Don Lemon beat Hannity 390K to 359K. O’Reilly was still the most-watched show in the demo overall, beating Cooper 450K to 385K at 8pm. Fox won all time slots in total viewers.
In addition, CNN’s ratings boost extended to the morning hours where New Day came out ahead of MSNBC’s Morning Joe in both the demo (179K to 148K) and total viewers (452K to 336K).
