Obama: I Don’t Think Trump Is Ideological, ‘Ultimately He’s Pragmatic’

obama3President Obama shared his perspective on Donald Trump‘s temperament and how he thinks his successor could modulate in office.

ABC’s Martha Raddatz asked the president during his press conference today (after he addressed other lingering Trump-related issues) about his meeting with Trump and whether it allayed any of his concerns. Obama was very careful in his language, saying “of course” he has concerns while expressing his belief, “I don’t think he is ideological, ultimately he’s pragmatic.”

Obama took a little detour into defending Obamacare before going back to how Trump now has to focus on actual governance.

He anecdotally cited how the office made him come to terms with his less-than-ideal organizational skills. (The president’s concerns about Trump’s fitness for office, you may recall, were slightly higher up the scale than the neatness of his desk.)

Obama pointed out that there are certain aspects that Trump’s temperament that may have worked during the election but will not “serve him well” as President of the United States.
