Olbermann Changes Mind On Running Countdown Past 9 P.M., Stepping On Maddow

It turns out Keith Olbermann‘s fans are loyal–but they don’t want him stepping on Rachel Maddow‘s toes. When Olbermann debuted his new version of Countdown on Current TV Monday, he ran long–wrapping the show at 9:03 p.m.–forcing viewers who want to see his entire show to miss the start of Maddow on MSNBC. The same Maddow, Olbermann pointed out, who appeared early Monday night in a discussion with Lawrence O’Donnell–effectively stepping on the last moments of Countdown. “It’s a competition,” Olbermann tweeted to a viewer who objected. “So I’m assuming you’re mad at her for doing the last five minutes of O’Donnell’s show in competition with me? I’m not.”

Well, he’s changed his mind. Via Twitter today, Olbermann essentially raised the white flag, telling fans he will no longer run his show longer than 60 minutes:

At @current we’ll soon have a 9 PM companion commentary show to mine. But in the interim there is no reason for me to be overlapping with my friend Rachel, nor to ignore the wishes of those who’ve been so loyal to both of us for so long. We’ve heard you: as of tomorrow night Countdown finishes at 9. Bonus stuff will instead go to Countdown Online. Thanks for upsiding my head on this :)”

Yawn; mediaite covering current is a step too far.

  • GreyGoose

Yes, there’s only so far you can split that American Taliban audience they both draw!

I wonder if Olbermann is going to touch the question of whether Obama has the Fire-In-The-Belly for another 4-years of this!!

“So I’m assuming you’re mad at her for doing the last five minutes of O’Donnell’s show in competition with me? I’m not.”

Better watch your back Maddow, you know how Keith HATES females. I’d hire a bodyguard if I was hher….who knows what tthat creep is lliable of.

  • murf

It’s a lose -lose either way. Lol

  • slickerwick

    Aww, what a guy!
I see Mediaite is still giving him free publicity. I guess they figure he needs it.

  • Dem4Ever

Olbermann can’t even get along with ‘former’ coworkers…Geesh guy!

  • BFD

OMG it’s so cute that Keith still imagines he’s a player.

  • OxyCon

Who’da thunk Olbermann would have a problem with a woman?

    Rhetorical?

Keith Olbermann personifies all of what’s best in President Obama’s Lib/Prog Party.

If not for Keith Rachel and Lawrence wouldnt have their own shows and they have even said and that i give Keith Kudos for doing. If not for Keith hundreds of thousands of people would not have been treated during the free clinic that were in their cities to treat those who dont have medical insurance. Keith’s show was the first to bring attention to the solders kiled in iraq when other cable talkers literally ignored them.Keith was the one that brought these issues to light and have made the current liberal talkers like Rachel and Ed Shultz go on and help more people. The fact that mediate loves to bring up every misstep that Keith or anyone at MSNBC does proves that someone (DA) hint obviously holds bitter feelings twords his old network when this site will blast them any chance the they get it when their are other important stories out their. DId this site focus on the fight between Neil Boortz and his racist radio show and his fight with Ed Schultz?? Or have they focused more on if Keith is losing in the ratings to FoxNews?? I am begining to wonder if Mr Murdoch owns part of this site.

A tip, if you want anyone to read your posts: Try using punctuation and paragraph breaks, also drop the rambling stream-of-consciousness style. It might help.

What kind of TV network makes these kinds of decisions in such a cavalier manner? This is a network, isn’t it? And not just a live feed from Olbie’s basement?

  • http://www.zazzle.com/talkingpoints NORBIT Jr.

How many Mediaite regulars are we losing to Olbermann now?

Or sister fought sister, father fought grand-daughter… maybe he is slicking back his hair and going for the proposal?????? Keith may be getting an edge on and hoping for a little some’fin-some’fin on the side????

Why do the same idiot righties spend so much time here complaining that Mediate covers things they don’t like? Start your own websites, you f***ing morons.

That’s rather funny considering that on the Clyburn-Cavuto article someone was complaining that Mediaite was covering stories from a rightwing perspective, a lefty who was complaining that Mediaite was “foxnation.” You should head on over there and tell him to stop complaining and to start his own website.

BTW, I don’t see anyone on this thread complaining, only you. You seem really pissed for some unfathomable reason.

  • Jaurez

slickerwick, the far left loons bleat all the time about this place being “drudgelight,” “foxnation” “they pack water for fox news” and “joe” damn well knows it.

That’s a credit to all the Conservative commenters here who are kicking leftist ass. It’s their way of crying uncle.

I read these stupid, mindless comments all the time. “Tommy, why are you covering this; Alex, why are you covering that”. Buncha f***in whiners.

  • LOGICandREASON

Both of them are so irrelevant, so I don’t understand the purpose of this article.

@Mark Joyella, did it matter to us what Keith does for Rachel?

  • juan

    Who are Olbermann & Madow?

  • MrRichPeoples

I have both Rachel Maddow’s and Keith Olbermann’s shows scheduled to record daily on my dvr, each with a 5 minute overrun. I haven’t missed a moment of either program all week.

Sorry to hear that. I hate when tivo just records crap for no reason too.

  • ChrisNH

As long as MadCow and Olbermann are seething with rage or otherwise ‘angry’ at something, I’m quite happy.
