President Obama: ‘Ask Osama Bin Laden Whether I Engage In Appeasement’

video

Whoa. I suppose that’s one way to shut down a question.

During a press conference, President Obama was asked by the Associated Press’ Ben Feller about the GOP candidates’ accusation that he was an appeaser in regards to the Middle East. Obama then responded that they should ask Osama bin Laden if he’s an appeaser. Again, whoa.

“Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top al Qaeda leaders who have been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement. Or whoever’s left out there about that.”

I didn’t get to catch this interaction live, but I can only assume that, after saying this, Obama put on some banging sunglasses and rode off on his motorcycle as the music swelled and the credits began to roll.

Honestly, I can’t wait till we see President Obama again next summer in Drone Man 2: Can’t Iran, Can’t Hide.

“This time, it’s personal!”

It is never a good idea to believe your own BS. Republicans are on a hiding to nothing attacking Obama on war mongering and killing without trials. They are in serious risk of believing their own sh!t.

I can hear the soldiers who were directly involved with capturing or killing these Al Qaeda leaders and killing Osama bin Laden getting annoyed by President Obama taking credit for what they did.

    Appease that teabaggers!!!

Boom Goes the dynamite. Your ass just got served.

More like, “I’m a Marxist but I got the bad guy!”

This joker’s re election campaign actually created a bumper sticker that says “My President killed bin Laden”

This clown thinks he’s every beloved figure reincarnated and he takes credit for the SEALS’

I’d rather ask Mark Kirk on his attempt to water down the legislation to sanction Iran.  Or, or, now stay with me here, I’d rather a reporter follow up with “How did you get the intel that led to his death?”  No reporter will?

Obama should be careful when he boasts about killing terrorists.  Conservatives loved tough talking Bush because he reminded them of a cowboy.  Tough talking Obama might remind them of gangsta rap.

Yeah if only he would have been spending his free time clearing a fake ranch of brush

hey remember when Bush pranced around in that flight suit after we “won”? Didn’t think so.

It’s fairly common for the Commander in Chief to not only lead on military matters, but to make note of success.  At least Obama is pointing to something real in response to political attack rather than spending time and money weaving a public fantasy.

I don’t believe that the home, convicted criminal Antoin “Tony” Rezko , bought for the President has any brush .

Yeah!  Why should Obama take ANY credit for the actions of the soldiers under his command?!?!?!  Cause we ALL know that if any of their missions failed, nthisrain would be first to blame the soldiers for their mistakes.

Remember when Bush came out announcing a major action against a terrorist immediately following the event destroying a plethora of intelligence that could’ve led to more terrorists being killed or captured?  Didn’t think so.

The word “appeasement” shall now disappear from American political discourse for the next 11 months.

Good job, O. You just might get another dollar from me after all.

“Obama wanted to purchase a home that the seller had a specific condition on: the adjacent empty lot to the house had to be purchased at the same time, ABC News reported. In the house deal, Rezko’s wife paid the full asking price for that parcel, $625,000.Obama shelled out $300,000 under the house’s asking price, paying $1.65 million, according to ABC News. Obama then purchased a part of Rezko’s lot for $104,500. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/68935.html#ixzz1fybqnt1u

keep spinning your fairy tales, it will probably take the sting out the fact that it took Obama less than 2 1/2 years to do what Bush couldn’t in nearly 7 1/2 years (despite using torture). Or are you one of those people who thinks Bush deserves all the credit? So hard to keep up with what wingnuts believe from week to week

The funny thing is this was dealing with a question about Israel. What does killing these terrorists have to do with the situation with Israel?  Wow odd response to say the least. Playing the Bin Laden card is nice and all but what does that have to do with the question asked?

“If we had a strong President the people of Iran very well could have overthrown Ackmanutjob…..but we don’t so were not able to!!!”How? My guess is Newt would put on an oversize Iron Man suit and go assassinate the Iranian government himself?

The preparation beforehand didn’t leak.  The knowledge of where he was didn’t leak.  The specifics of how we got that information didn’t leak until a while afterwards.  Ya know what else didn’t leak?  That SEALs were involved, ya know, until Biden saw that as something else to leak.

Thinking about it, there’s a lot that Biden and Obama leaked that didn’t come from other people.  Huh…When’s the last time the President and Vice President having access to intelligence was a liability?

Uh, actually, they waterboarded the delivery guy  to get information on where Osama was, so I’m not sure what you’re talking about.  But why listen to me?  Let’s just look to, I don’t know, the head of the CIA at the time, Leon Panetta http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/al-qaeda/8491509/Osama-bin-Laden-killed-CIA-admits-waterboarding-yielded-vital-information.html

Let’s face facts: without waterboarding, Osama would be alive.  That’s not opinion, that’s fact.

  • Anne 1

“Boneheaded” was the word Mr. Obama used then to describe his part in a real estate transaction made with Mr. Rezko in 2005, when the developer bought a lot next to the Obamas’ house here and sold them a strip of land to expand their yard.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/23/us/antoin-rezko-is-sentenced-to-over-10-years.html

President Obama seems to think that it is true , and that it did in fact happen Greg .

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

    Politifact addressed the issue well.

  • John Jacobjingleheimerschmidt

Obama has repeatedly thanked the Seals and given them credit. Everyone but the Right has given the president credit for ordering a risky and highly dangerous operation that could’ve ended up getting no one or being the sort of military operation disasters we saw under Reagan, Clinton, Carter, and JFK. Given the political climate of the country, he was putting his presidency on the line so I think that deserves some credit even if the Seals deserve more.

  • Anonymous

It looks as if Hillary lent Obama one of her balls.

  • Anne 1

“By asking if Obama knew about it, the question presumes the claim is true: that Rezko did, in fact, save Obama $300,000 on the purchase of his home.
Now it’s true that Obama paid $300,000 less than the asking price for a century-old mansion that he and his wife, Michelle, purchased from a Chicago doctor in 2005 for $1.65-million.
And on the same day the Obamas closed on their house, Rezko’s wife, Rita Rezko, bought a vacant lot next door from the same seller for $625,000, the full asking price. Obama said it was his understanding that there was another offer besides the Rezkos’ for the vacant lot at or near the asking price, thereby setting the market. ”

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/jun/17/republican-national-committee-republican/no-proof-rezko-saved-obama-money-on-home/

Pure coincidence I’m sure Greg .

And yet YOUR PRESIDENT chose to invade a country that posed no risk to the United States, utterly neutering any ability to successfully mobilize the military when the need actually arose, when he damn well knew that Iran was pursuing nuclear technology.

Actually, YOUR PRESIDENT also chose to empower Iran by invading its two most ferocious enemies in the region, Iraq and Afghanistan, single-handedly paving the way for Iran to grossly expand its influence in the region, as it is now doing in Iraq.

Did you even read the article? The synchronicity is explained and supported.

Donna Schwan, with MetroPro Realty, which listed both the house and the vacant lot, recalled that there were several offers on both the house and the lot, though she could not remember the amount of those other offers and said she has since discarded the offer sheets.

“The most important thing to the sellers was to close on the same day,” Schwan said, as they did not want one of the properties to sit unsold, alone.

Bush, Cheney, and ALL Republicans appeased Osama Bin Laden (and the rest of the Saudis who attacked us on 9/11) for eight years.  They continue to do so today.  Facts are facts.

Taking credit for the work of those that came before him is not a dismissal of the charge that he is an appeaser in the Middle East. It means he was forced to pull the trigger on UBL because not to do so would have been catastrophic to his administration. Taking the lesson from Bill Clinton, when he failed to take out UBL, is part and parcel to his decision to take out UBL. Plain and simple. In every other case, he has been an appeaser, especially where it concerns Israel’s enemies. This president has failed miserably on foreign policy and he has chosen to support the wrong people in the Middle East, time and time again. We had the opportunity to help the poeple of Iran throw down their government and end the rule of the religious zealots that control that country and that are the cornerstone of nearly all violence in that region. Obama is an appeaser, an apologizer and has repeatedly taken the wrong stance on foreign policy around the world.

That’s funny!  Ya know, that sorta jogs my memory a bit.  Sorta like how a President didn’t take a wanted terrorist when Sudan was offering to extradite him here http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/9/10/181819.shtml  That terrorist, of course, being Osama bin Laden and the event he was related to was the 1993 WTC bombing.

I vaguely remember a former terrorist being interviewed and saying that the inaction of a President was what caused 9/11 http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2010/March/Ex-Terrorist-Gives-CBN-Glimpse-Inside-Al-Qaeda/  Of course, that President being Clinton.

I, more or less, remember the former head of the CIA’s bin Laden unit stating “”The former president seems to be able to deny facts with impugnity. Bin Laden is alive today because Mr. Clinton, Mr. Sandy Berger, and Mr. Richard Clarke refused to kill him” http://newsbusters.org/node/7871

I also vaguely remember the “Mistress of Disaster,” Jamie Gorelick, having a thing or two to do with intelligence communities not being able to share intelligence to stop 9/11.  I remember that from a documentary on NGC.

And I do remember Bush waiting to leave.  I do remember the children he was with that he didn’t want to scare.  Indeed, I do remember that.

My hearing is fine, it still doesn’t answer the question about dealing with Israel & Palestine conflict. I understand it was a good line and thats all that biased people look for. Spin?? You’re a carousel about to rotate off it’s axis…

First of all it was the intelligence community (that it took a decade to rebuild after Clinton all but dismantled it) found him.

Secondly it was the US Navy seal team who prosecuted the assault on bin Laden.

President Obama gave the order to engage, which resulted in Osama’s death and for that Obama can rightly take credit.

    snow soul;

You mean when the Bush administration utterly ignored the plan to combat terrorism crafted by Richard Clarke on behalf of Clinton right before Bush took office?  You know, the plan that a senior Bush administration official described as “everything we’ve done since 9/11″?

Or perhaps you mean the assassination authorization that Clinton issued directly after the embassy bombings?

Or perhaps you’re referring to the two former Reagan counterterrorism officials, Robert Oakley and Paul Bremer, who, in praising the Clinton administration’s unprecedented focus on terrorism, merely disagreed over whether or not Clinton had focused TOO MUCH on bin Laden:

“Overall, I give [the Clinton administration] very high marks [on counterterrorism].  The only major criticism I have is the obsession with Osama…”  [Robert Oakley] (whereas Bremer thought Clinton “correctly focused on bin Laden.”)

From that very story, those polls were taken after Obama decided that he had to stop the UN from takng action that would destabilize the region…
“US President Barack Obama succeeded in reaching out to Israelis with his speech last Friday to the General Assembly and his efforts to block the UN from unilaterally declaring a Palestinian state, according to a Keevoon Research poll sponsored by The Jerusalem Post this week.”

That also does not dismiss his appeasement. Polls in Israel do not equate to world opinion, and of course conservative thinking, which is that Obama is an appeaser.

  • Anonymous

And for the record, COB, Bill Clinton TRIPLED the counterterrorism budget for the FBI, and DOUBLED counterterrorism funding overall.

Beyond that, Richard Clarke crafted a counterterrorism plan for the Clinton administration directly before Bush took office, a plan that the Bush administration did NOTHING with for the nine months before 9/11.  What did that plan contain?  ”[E]verything that we’ve done since 9/11,” according to a senior Bush administration official.

Took time to build up the proper intelligence.  Hell, it took what, 8 months of solid training to prepare the SEALs for this mission?

Additionally, Scheuer said Clarke was the reason bin Laden was alive.  I’m just missing why the guy who seems to have sat on his ass and did nothing the entirety of his tenure in his position would be an authority on anything of significance.  Perhaps he could show us what Sandy Berger shoved down his pants and stole from the National Archives, but I won’t hold my breath.  Oh, yeah, also, there’s this from Scheuer “Scheuer thinks Clarke is a risk-averse poseur who didn’t do enough to fight bin Laden prior to September 11, 2001. At his breakfast with reporters, Scheuer said that on 10 separate occasions his unit, codename “Alec,” provided key policymakers with information that could’ve led to the killing or capture of Osama bin Laden. “In each of those 10 instances, the senior policymaker in charge, whether it was Sandy Berger, Richard Clarke, or George Tenet,” resisted taking action, afraid it would result in collateral damage or a backlash on the Arab street. According to Scheuer, Clarke’s story has changed in the time since.” http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/004/954cfheq.asp?pg  If you’re looking to extol the virtues of a coward, I would see no better fit than to say Clarke should’ve been listened to.

Assassination orders are just dandy!  I just step back and wonder where they were after the first WTC bombing.  Or when he was in the scope of the American officer, as shown in The Path to 9/11.  Also, those 10 times prior speak volumes more than the order.  No one remembers the actions of a failure, they remember the actions of success.

That’s great for them to praise him.  Now just gotta wonder…What would the 2,996 people who died say?

So let’s see:  George W. Bush chose not to get bin Laden AFTER 9/11 – with all the benefits of hindsight and the blood of 3,000 Americans flooding the streets of New York – and yet it is Clinton who owes an explanation to the victims of 9/11?

I must say, I find it outright bizarre that you would even bring  up the first WTC attack:  it took place 38 DAYS after Clinton took office, whereas 9/11 took place 9 MONTHS after Bush took office.  And yet BOTH are Clinton’s fault?

Bush seems to have done a lot more in response to one terrorist attack than Clinton did to a lot.  Well, ya know, until a certain blue dress with a certain stain appeared which I’m sure had nothing at all to do with it and was purely a coincidence.

Both are Clinton’s fault.  He did nothing to respond to make AQ think there’d be consequences for their actions, as a former member of AQ stated.  He did nothing to stop the Mistress of Disaster.

Oh yeah, and then there’s the whole crippling the intelligence community and military.  The commander of one of the largest military bases in the country told my dad when we went for an air show that it’d be 8 years before we were to where we should be in military R&D because of Clinton’s destruction of the forces, but I’m sure that also wasn’t Clinton’s fault either.  And that was back in 2007 or so.  With all the cuts now, wonder how far back we are now.

According to the FCC, These bands are supposedly reserved for ”radio location” (ie, GPS), and other communications with satellites (see, for example, [3]). The 2.6 Ghz band coincides with mobile phone technology. Though not affiliated by government, these bands are at the hands of multinational corporations. It requires no stretch of the imagination to conclude that the current helmet craze is likely to have been propagated by the Government, possibly with the involvement of the FCC. We hope this report will encourage the paranoid community to develop improved helmet designs to avoid falling prey to these shortcomings”

“The list of senior terrorists killed during the Obama presidency is fairly extensive.

There’s Osama bin Laden,  of course, killed in May.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) leader Anwar al-Awlaki as of today.

Earlier this month officials confirmed that al Qaeda’s chief of Pakistan operations, Abu Hafs al-Shahri, was killed in Waziristan, Pakistan.

In August, ‘Atiyah ‘Abd al-Rahman,  the deputy leader of al Qaeda was killed.

In June, one of the group’s most dangerous commanders, Ilyas Kashmiri,  was killed in Pakistan. In Yemen that same month, AQAP senior operatives Ammar al-Wa’ili, Abu Ali al-Harithi, and Ali Saleh Farhan were killed. In Somalia, Al-Qa’ida in East Africa (AQEA) senior leader Harun Fazul was killed.

Administration officials also herald the recent U.S./Pakistani joint arrest of Younis al-Mauritani in Quetta.

Going back to August 2009, Tehrik e-Taliban Pakistan leader Baitullah Mahsud was killed in Pakistan.

In September of that month, Jemayah Islamiya operational planner Noordin Muhammad Top was killed in Indonesia, and AQEA planner Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan was killed in Somalia.

Then in December 2009 in Pakistan, al Qaeda operational commanders   Saleh al-Somali and ‘Abdallah Sa’id were killed.

In February 2010, in Pakistan,  Taliban deputy and military commander Abdul Ghani Beradar was captured; Haqqani network commander   Muhammad Haqqani was killed; and Lashkar-e Jhangvi leader Qari Zafar was killed.

In March 2010, al Qaeda operative Hussein al-Yemeni was killed in Pakistan, while senior Jemayah Islamiya operative Dulmatin  – accused of being the mastermind behind the 2002 Bali bombings – was killed during a raid in Indonesia.

In April 2010, al Qaeda in Iraq leaders Abu Ayyub al-Masri and Abu Omar al-Baghdadi were killed.

In May, al Qaeda’s number three commander, Sheik Saeed al-Masri  was killed.

In June 2010 in Pakistan, al Qaeda commander Hamza al-Jawfi was killed.”

I understand that many right wingers in here would rather ghoulishly dig up the remains of all these dead terrorists, refrigerate them, and hold them for a future White Republican President to prop up and “re-kill” them live on Fox News and Hate Radio, proving their toughness on national defense.

Much easier than giving the Obama Administration credit for anything, right?

I detect a note of desperation, denial and a lot of evasion in the rightwing responses to this thread. We are still a warmongering nation, but Obama has cut down on that considerably, especially with the Libyan caper, and his killing of bin Laden was daring and masterful. Yes, it would have been great to get bin Laden and bring him to the Hague, not Guantanamo, for a show trial, but that wasn’t going to happen. I really think the jig is up for the Republican/Tea Party troublemakers, and they could be heading towards a total collapse in Nov 2012. The public is beginning to catch on that the rightwingers have absolutely nothing to offer the American people but more misery, negativity and unsuccessful manipulation. One party rule by a reenergized Democrat Party for the next four years may be the way we have to go until the Republicans come to their senses.

From the ultra right-wing Huffington Post in March of this year:  WASHINGTON — There is no consensus about what good has been achieved in the two-plus years that President Barack Obama has waged war in Afghanistan. But one negative result is indisputable: the war has grown deadlier for Afghan civilians.
Newly released data on civilian casualties compiled by the U.S.-led NATO forces confirm what the UN reported on Wednesday: That even as Obama has doubled the number of U.S. troops in the country, the insurgency has only gotten more brutal and life for ordinary Afghans has become more perilous.           Oh yeah we’ll give Mr. Obama all the credit he deserves.

  • http://twitter.com/AdamDawson9681 Adam Dawson

Ok, sweetie, I’ll try really hard to explain this, ok? I doubt it will do any good, but I’ll give it a shot.

When you lose your birth certificate and you have to get a new one, you call the state. Here is what doesn’t happen: The state does not go to the hospital in which you were born and root through the filing cabinets. They do not sent you the original copy. What they do is check their computer records, see that you were in fact born, and then print out that information on an official piece of stationary. This is a birth certificate. If you order a birth certificate from your state office, you will not get the original copy. You will in fact get a birth certificate that looks very much like the one Obama released. (Modern fonts, new paper stock, etc.)

I know in my heart of hearts that you understand this. I think the problem is that you desperately want the birth certificate thing to be true. But wanting something to be true does not make it true. Pat Robertson wants the earth to be 6000 years old, but it is not. You want Obama to be a Kenyan, but he is not. Please let it go.

“That’s more or less in line with the U.N. data, which showed a 15 percent increase during that same period — after a 14 percent increase between 2008 and 2009.
The scale of the two databases is not identical. Critics have long accused U.S. military officials of undercounting civilian casualties, particularly those they cause. The military data show that 2,537 civilians were killed and 5,594 were wounded over the past two years, attributing 88 percent of those casualties to insurgents.
The U.N. report, by contrast, finds twice as many casualties overall, and it attributes nearly three times as many to pro-government forces. For instance, according to Science correspondent John Bohannon, the military database doesn’t include hundreds of deaths by airstrikes that the U.N. counted.
Nevertheless, both sets of data indicate that there was a spike in civilian casualties in 2010. Both reports find that the spike was the result of a stepped-up anti-government insurgency, not NATO action. And both conclude the U.S.-led forces were actually responsible for fewer casualties in 2010 than the prior year, despite the dramatically increased tempo of their operations.”

  • http://www.thecobraslair.com Cobra

So your claim is that NO weapons moved under Operation Wide Receiver went unaccounted for?

In Operation Wide Receiver, Tucson agents allowed the sales of more than
500 firearms to known straw purchasers. Like Gunrunner/Fast and
    Furious, the operation apparently backfired.

Some firearms in Wide Receive were equipped with RFID tracking devices.
In Wide Receiver, it seems the illegal purchasers seemed more than
slightly knowledgeable of the way the ATF and how to take their aerial
    and electronic tracking procedures down.

Knowing the time aloft numbers for virtually all planes used in
government surveillance, the buyers had a simple method of getting their
purchases across the border undetected. They simply drove four-hour
    loops around the area.

As surveillance planes were forced to return to base for re-fueling, the
smugglers simply turned and sprinted their cargo across the border.

The RFID tags also turned out to be problematic.

Rather than making large enough holes for the tags to be laid out inside weapons, agents force-fit them into the rifles.

That cramming caused the antennae to be folded, reducing the effective
range of the tags. And an already short battery life (36-48 hours
maximum) meant that should purchasers allow the firearms to sit, the
    tracking devices eliminated themselves.

This sounds like something out of “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight” but it’s not.

To date, Wide Receiver hasn’t really amounted to much in the way of
interdiction, enforcement or prosecution, despite the huge amounts of
surveillance video and audio evidence collected and the millions of
    dollars expended.

To date, sources tell us the only charges filed in the ongoing
investigation are for falsifying Form 4473s. Not much of a return on an
investigation that consumed millions of dollars in man-hours and money
and placed the lives of law-abiding firearms dealers and their families
    in jeopardy.

Additionally, we have seen documents proving the Justice Department is
not only aware of Wide Receiver, they’re having problems with material
witnesses and confidential informants who are concerned about the
overall investigation and their personal safety.

Seems the confidential nature of the investigation was no better run than the rest of the operation.”

“U.S. officials considered conducting a covert mission inside Iran to retrieve or destroy a stealth drone that crashed late last week, but ultimately concluded such a secret operation wasn’t worth the risk of provoking a more explosive clash with Tehran, a U.S. official said.

    [...]

Under one plan, a team would be sent to retrieve the aircraft. U.S. officials considered both sending in a team of American commandos based in Afghanistan as well as using allied agents inside Iran to hunt down the downed aircraft.

Another option would have had a team sneak in to blow up the remaining pieces of the drone. A third option would have been to destroy the wreckage with an airstrike.

However, the officials worried that any option for retrieving or destroying the drone would have risked discovery by Iran”

It was Panetta that was acting the proper role as CIC, Valerie Jarrett was trying to block it from happening and was interfering with the mission, Obama was leaning toward agreeing with her.  Panetta tricked them, planned the mission down to the point of the execution, got Hillary and Gates in on it and they confronted the bamster.  Mission Accomplished no thanks to Obama, per, the White House Insider.

Bringing the incident up to sidetrack the public on his Iran appeasement is a bridge way to far.  From the beginning of his term he has been appeasing Iran, first by allowing the Iranian thug government to slaughter the protesters without lifting a finger, their nuclear weapons progress, Ahmadinejad/Chavez tete a tete and weapons sharing.  All of it stinks of appeasement and wonder of wonders, Valerie Jarrett hails from Iran.

Had he answered with the nuance of a professor, everyone would be bitching. had George Dubs said the same thing, it’d be a conservative circle jerk. Partisan hacks are just pissed that Obama was the one to clean up Bush’s mess and complete Bush’s failed missions.

Seems like after Bush they either became hippies or pro- Al Qaeda… at least it sounds like it reading through this whole thread!

Dear conservatives (not the idiots, but the pro terrorist ones): I did a little dance when I found out Osama gox nix’d.

You mad, bros? Bin Laden got what he deserved. Good on the SEAL team and the President they served under.

Where in his speech did he say Mission Accomplished?  He did not, he was there to declare “major combat operations were over.”  Meaning, the big stuff such as the USS Abraham Lincoln got to go home.  We “aquired” real estate with which to launch our planes, helos & drones in Iraq.  He went on to tell the “American people” that we were then entering a phase of the war that would be difficult and long.  The banner the ignorant associate with President Bush was for the sailors aboard that ship for the outstanding mission they accomplished.  To this day there will be clods out there that choose to deny these sailors their day due to political hackery.  shame, shame!

Actually, it took less than a month for Operation Enduring Freedom to begin, Oct, 7, 2001.  With OBL, our intel services debated on where he was, the Generals decided they would rather not risk mass casualties of our troops in the early stages of the war on something they were not positive of….being, whether OBL was at Tora Bora or not.

So you disagree with Republican demands for MORE troops in Afghanistan, and an open ended war beyond the 2014 withdrawal outline from Obama?

“75 percent of Republicans want more troops in Afghanistan. Case in point, Palin:
“Now is not the time for cold feet, second thoughts, or indecision – it
is the time to act as commander-in-chief and approve the troops so
    clearly needed in Afghanistan.”

    http://mydd.com/2009/10/8/more-troops-into-afghanistan

When it comes to the war that has dragged on for nearly a decade, John McCain has been one of the staunchest supporters of the man who defeated him.

But his tone was markedly different Wednesday as the GOP’s leading voice on military matters ripped President Obama’s plans to withdraw 33,000 troops
from Afghanistan by next summer, reversing the surge that the White
House launched earlier in Obama’s term. This, the Arizona Republican
    said, was needlessly dangerous.”

Cobra – the US intelligence agency stated this days after he was killed – it is public knowledge – much of the same of Clinton turning down Bin Laden multiple times.

Read about it – Obama did not want to go forward – he wanted to hide.

You find it ok for the President to revel in a man’s blood. Obama did his job, he had his people track down a mass murder and eliminated him. To bathe in the man’s blood is beneath a President. Apparently you see nothing wrong with this. Did you pull wings off of grasshoppers when you were a kid?

That’s not “evidence.”  There’s no such thing as the “US intelligence agency.”  Name the Agency–CIA, NSA, FBI…and give the attributed quotation to support your position. You obviously CANNOT, because you’re LYING.

“Prisoners in American custody told stories of a trusted courier. When
the Americans ran the man’s pseudonym past two top-level detainees — the
chief planner of the Sept. 11 attacks, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed; and Al Qaeda’s
operational chief, Abu Faraj al-Libi — the men claimed never to have
heard his name. That raised suspicions among interrogators that the two
detainees were lying and that the courier probably was an important
    figure…

operational chief, Abu Faraj al-Libi — the men claimed never to have
heard his name. That raised suspicions among interrogators that the two
detainees were lying and that the courier probably was an important
    figure.

While Mr. Panetta advocated an aggressive strategy to confirm Bin
Laden’s presence, some C.I.A. clandestine officers worried that the most
promising lead in years might be blown if bodyguards suspected the
compound was being watched and spirited the Qaeda leader out of the
    area.

For weeks last fall, spy satellites took detailed photographs, and the
N.S.A. worked to scoop up any communications coming from the house. It
wasn’t easy: the compound had neither a phone line nor Internet access.
Those inside were so concerned about security that they burned their
trash rather than put it on the street for collection.

In February, Mr. Panetta called Vice Adm. William H. McRaven, commander of the Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations Command,
to C.I.A. headquarters in Langley, Va., to give him details about the
compound and to begin planning a military strike.

Admiral McRaven, a veteran of the covert world who had written a book on
American Special Operations, spent weeks working with the C.I.A. on the
operation, and came up with three options: a helicopter assault using
American commandos, a strike with B-2 bombers that would obliterate the
compound, or a joint raid with Pakistani intelligence operatives who
would be told about the mission hours before the launch…”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/world/asia/03intel.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

What also complicated the matter was that Pakistanis were holding an American during the same period:

“The discussions about what to do took place as American relations with
Pakistan were severely strained over the arrest of Raymond A. Davis, the
C.I.A. contractor imprisoned for shooting two Pakistanis on a crowded
street in Lahore in January. Some of Mr. Obama’s top aides worried that
any military assault to capture or kill Bin Laden might provoke an angry
response from Pakistan’s government, and that Mr. Davis could end up
    dead in his jail cell.
Mr. Davis was ultimately released on March 16,
giving a freer hand to his colleagues.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/world/asia/03intel.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

What happened 6 days later, after Davis’ release?

On March 22, the president asked his advisers their opinions on the options.

Mr. Gates was skeptical about a helicopter assault, calling it risky,
and instructed military officials to look into aerial bombardment using
smart bombs. But a few days later, the officials returned with the news
that it would take some 32 bombs of 2,000 pounds each. And how could the American officials be certain that they had killed Bin Laden?

“It would have created a giant crater, and it wouldn’t have given us a body,” said one American intelligence official.

A helicopter assault emerged as the favored option. The Navy Seals team
that would hit the ground began holding dry runs at training facilities
on both American coasts, which were made up to resemble the compound.
But they were not told who their target might be until later.”

I am eternally happy that I voted for, and will vote again for the deliberate, thoughtful, Commander-in-Chief, President Barack Obama.

David, actually, it is well-documented that President Barack Obama greatly increased the resources toward getting bin Laden over Bush levels.  Which is why President Obama was able to get Obama in a FRACTION of the time it took George Bush to NOT get him!  President Bush promised to get Obama and failed to do so over a period of SEVEN  long YEARS. Maybe it had something to do with Osama bin Laden’s BROTHER having bailed out one of Bush’s bad business situations with a loan! That is the God’s honest truth.  Enter (much smarter) President Obama who also promised to get Bin Laden and DID it!

Republican candidates have only joined the wide-spread criticism (which includes Democrats) of Obama’s handling of Israel and Palestine. The AP reporter conflates this with Obama’s excellent handling of al Qaeda to create an ignorant (bigoted even) question, saying Republicans take issue with his handling of middle east and Israel and allege appeasement. Media malpractice at its best. Does the reporter really expect us to consider the two issues as one, or is it more likely he couldn’t resist an attempt to set up his own 2012 presidential choice with a nice sound bite?

Second…why is it the sole responsibility of the American President in general, regardless of who’s in office?
