Happersett was about woman/s suffrage and had nothing to do with citizenship as Minor’s citizenship was never in question.  The issue that you elude to has never been decided by the courts.  But there is also little dispute that one born in the states is a natural born citizen.  
United States v. Wong Kim is a better test case but did not specifically answer the question of “natural born citizen” clause of the constitution.

Here’s a case where you need to be consistent. The recession that resulted from the collapse of the financial system ended in June 2009. For more than a year and a half, the economy has been growing in every consecutive month. The rate of private sector job loss declined steadily and now has been growing slowly but consistently.

Here’s where consistency comes in. When we say that Obama didn’t do enough to support the economy, I contend the stimulus was too small, there was not enough direct action to save under-water homeowners, and too much of the stimulus went to tax breaks that have the least stimulative benefit. So, in my opinion, Obama failed to do enough in this regards, and much of the blame for that falls on the obstructionist Congress.

Now some of you don’t like anything that Obama did, or even tried to do, so you slam him for failing to revive the economy but you have no idea of what you would have wanted him to do differently.

You can’t slam him for failing at the same time you cheer the Republican Congress for blocking 99% of his moves and the Republican governors for dumping teachers, firefighters, police, and other government workers on the street.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t slam him for not doing what you didn’t want him to do in the first place.

I re-read the comments/posts as a learning tool and I came across our exchange from a day or so ago.

It occurs to me that statistics and facts have become meaningless in todays political climate.  The media has become so untrustworthy and willing to disseminate, without proper qualification, virtually any “facts.” Furthermore, media organizations are more than willing to support their own political inclinations. (Note: This is not new, but, more pronounced?)

Furthermore, regarding blame, the Nation has been heading toward this precipice for decades, thus, there is enough political “blame” to go around.  Respectfully TRUE, Liberals tend to see themselves as compassionate and considerate of the those in need?  Yet, without a stable economy that produces wealth, at best all America can hope for is survival and mediocrity.  Our largesse will be a thing of the past.

Which leads me to my conclusion:  America is very close to being split down the middle, politically.  That is not so much a check and balance, but a recipe for civil war?  But, that is another issue.  Anyway, as “facts” have been diminished in their credibility, we must look to philosophy and philosophers to affirm or change our cultural self awareness.

Who are we as a culture and Nation?  Are we the children of Washington and Jefferson, or the spawn of Marx and Lenin?

I gladly admit to being influenced by the former, furthermore, I am inspired by the enlightenment and the “philosophes” of that era.  In fact, I find ancients, such as Cicero and Plato give insight into the core philosophy that created America… “due process and equal protection”  

Conversely, the socialist concept of due process strikes me as cold and ruthless and history has born this out.  Capitalist America has it’s warts, certainly, however, as a long lost friend of mine once said:
