Gov. Scott Walker: I’m Not Going To Allow One Prank Call Distract Us From The Job We Have To Do

video

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker gave a press conference a few minutes ago in which he was asked about the prank phone call he received yesterday in which he was tricked into think he was talking to David Koch. He responded by echoing his spokesperson’s statement from earlier (“I take many phone calls every day”) as well as Rush Limbaugh (“There’s nothing on the tape I haven’t said in public”).

As the press conference began, Walker made prepared statements about his proposed bill, repeatedly bringing the conversation back to the 14 Democratic Senators who remain at large (“”We need one thing and one thing in particular, and that’s for the 14 Democratic Senators to return to their jobs”). He did not, however, mention the prank phone call. Once the questions section began, though, the first one he took was about it. Walker quickly brushed aside the references to comments in the recording that seemed to imply that he had considered (but went against) planting fake protesters or that he was trying to “trick” the Senators into returning.

In the end though, he summarized by promising he would not let the call “distract” him from the realties of his job.

And, he thinks these comments helped? He ought to have kept his mouth shut.

  • WCinWI

    Haha I love Scott Walker!

It’s also quite hypocritical for media personalities to talk about trickery when it comes to legislation.

PASS THE BILL! PASS THE BILL! PASS THE BILL!

  • The Real Royal King

I suspect that when this is all over, Walker is going to be regarded as a goat by the rightists and as a blessing by hard-working American men and women. I don’t know anyone who has so inspired and motivated American labor since Henry Ford.

But the liberal media will do their darnest to do just that Gov. Anything to keep us from talking about the real issues in WI, $100 a barrel gas, and the chaos in Greece which is a great window into where we are headed if unions are kept in check.

I don’t know why the Dems would want to be held accountable for around 12,000 jobs lost. I am loving this for political ad season.

You probably meant “are not” since otherwise you plan to be supporting hard-working American men and women. I’m sure it was your intend to hold them in as low a regard as you do pond scum.

Here’s part of my comment from the first article here about this issue:

“This will blow over quick, escpecially if Walker just says, okay kids, you got me. now, back to the adult business of running a state.”

And that’s what he just did.

Sorry, lefties. This won’t have legs past a day or two. The dems hiding out of state, however, will.

Gosh, we’re loosing that many teaching jobs in Texas, a non-collective bargaining state, which has been miserably run for over a decade by Borrow and Spend Republicans like Toll Booth Perry.

I shouldn’t think so. This happens in Texas from time-to-time. If it’s the Republicans, they flee to a Motel 6 in Enid, Oklahoma, whilst the Democrats go to cabanas in Mazatlan. We just laugh about it, remark what idiots they all are and that the smarter of the idiots are Democrats because who really want to hold up in a Motel 6 in Enid?

Well perhaps the pension and health care benefits are running your state into debt. Or it could be if Texas has taken stimulus or other Federal dollars, it needed to keep paying for those funding projects.

FDR, The revered saint of leftist progressives said…. “All government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public personnel management. The very nature and purposes of government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with government employee organizations. The employer is the whole people.”

Why aren’t we hearing that from the urinalists and lame stream media? Oh yeah, I forgot.

Not much. Perry made a big show of refusing all federal money, then backed down and accepted some. He then refused the unemployment benefits (a grant with some strings). Our fund went bankrupt, then the state had to borrow funds from the feds to make payments. With Perry, everything is show. No substance to anything.

Nope. Hardly a ripple in Texas. Many Hispanics, to be sure, but not generally considered a drain on our resources. Remember, we were once a Mexican state and we are actually more enlightened about such matters.

Oh that is funny. You are delusional if you think illegals have not impacted the budget of the state. I know many who most definitely believe that illegals are a drain on Texas and some of them are Hispanic since over half my friends are. My husband was born in Texas and still has most of his relatives in Texas.

For retirement, 6.5% of the monthly salary is contributed by the teacher and 6% of the monthly salary is paid by the district. There are no state contributions, and there is no social security.

For insurance, there are some variations. If you look for the median, it will be something akin to 20-25%, but as much as 40% contributed by the teachers. There are no contributions for dependents.

Anyway you look at, Perry has mismanaged the state.

Remember what your hero FDR said about public employee unions. Even your dog agrees.

“The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives in Congress. Accordingly, administrative officials and employees alike are governed and guided, and in many instances restricted, by laws which establish policies, procedures, or rules in personnel matters. Particularly, I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place in the functions of any organization of government employees.”

“Upon employees in the federal service rests the obligation to serve the whole people, whose interests and welfare require orderliness and continuity in the conduct of government activities. This obligation is paramount. Since their own services have to do with the functioning of the government, a strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of government until their demands are satisfied. Such action, looking toward the paralysis of government by those who have sworn to support it, is unthinkable and intolerable.”

Enjoy your xenophobic frenzy, but the onus is on you to prove it. Texas is not Arizona nor is it California. The dynamic is completely different.

The inescapable fact is: Perry has badly mismanaged the state.

In 2006/2008 we had property tax “reform” capping tax rates and appraisal spikes. For the average Texas home owner, the savings was miniscule, a few dollars a month, and it was quickly gobbled up. In the aggregate a disaster.

At the same time, we “reformed” business taxes to offset the lost tax revenues. The W Recession hit, and the projections turned into a huge joke. Business taxes dropped.

With lost tax revenues, we still never made budget cuts because that would make people not like Little Ricky.

Now. US $34Billion deficit. All Perry’s mismanagement. Our former Comptroller, Carole Rylander predicted all of this, almost to the penny. And, she was a Republic too.

    Perry’s mismangement. Pure and simple.

Duh! That’s what I just said. The pension funds are fine because the state doesn’t have anything to do with them. And, the funds aren’t a draw on the state because the state has nothing to do with them. But, with all of these advantages, Perry still ran up a US $34 B debt. It’s not really hard to understand. Perry mismanaged the state.

SEIU’s New Favorite Song Has Violent Ring to it

First violent signs, now violent songs.

The band Dropkick Murphys wants to do its part to stand with the Wisconsin protesters. What does that look like? Actually it sounds like a new song, released on union websites including the SEIU’s, that screams such phrases as “take the bastards down!“ and ”we got to smash them to the ground!”

“As part of the band’s efforts to support the workers, they are working with SEIU and other unions and labor federations to have the song available to be played at rallies across the country,” a post on SEIU’s website says.

These are apparently the sounds of solidarity:

In a statement yesterday, the band made it clear that they are avid supporters of the unrest in Wisconsin:

[We] would like to take a moment to acknowledge the struggles of the working people of Wisconsin and to pledge our support and solidarity by releasing the song ‘Take Em Down’ from our upcoming album. We think it’s appropriate at the moment and hope you like it… The Dropkick Murphys Stand With Wisconsin!!!!! [Emphasis theirs]

The band also released a limited edition t-shirt featuring the song’s title, “Take ‘Em Down.” Proceeds will go to the Workers’ Rights Emergency Response Fund:
