Former Trump Staffer Tells Scott Jennings She Doesn’t Want Him ‘Anywhere Near Trump’s Presidency’ Because He’ll ‘Ruin It’

Caroline Sunshine, once a campaign official for President Donald Trump, told CNN conservative commentator Scott Jennings that she doesn’t want him “anywhere near” his presidency because he’ll “ruin it” in a Thursday spat over the war in Iran.

Jennings is reportedly seeking to replace White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who departed the administration this week.

Thursday’s edition of CNN NewsNight opened with a discussion about the conflict, with host Abby Phillip bringing up Trump’s Wednesday Truth Social post in which he declared “mission accomplished.”

Jennings was first to chime in, mostly repeating claims he made in a Monday episode of his Salem Media program during which he alleged, “The United States has won the war against Iran.”

After Phillip made sure to note that Jennings’ claims about control over the Strait of Hormuz were not supported by oil-flow data through the waterway, she asked Sunshine, “Scott is trying to argue that Trump should go out there and tout a complete finished war. Is that the right strategy?”

Calling Trump’s “mission accomplished” statements “fantastic because we can go home,” Sunshine added, “History doesn’t judge American presidents and their success in the Middle East by how long they stay. It judges them by how little they stay there.”

She continued, talking to Jennings, “Which is why George H.W. Bush is more successful than George W. Bush, who you advised, which is why I don’t want you going anywhere near Donald Trump’s presidency to go ruin it with more of your Iraq 2005 talking points.”

Notably, Jennings served as a special assistant to the younger Bush and worked on both of his successful presidential campaigns.

CNN commentator Bakari Sellers couldn’t hold back his laughter at Sunshine’s remark and was heard laughing in the background of the broadcast as Phillip went on with the segment.

Minutes later, after Jennings claimed that the U.S. “will probably have to leave some assets in the region for monitoring,” Sunshine clapped back, “Why? The president said we won.”

Jennings used the example of a “CIA plane in the area” to evaluate potential nuclear sites, to which Sunshine responded, “You’re not answering me. You’re not even looking me in the eye.”
