Sen. Schumer: Speaker Boehner Is “Reckless” With Talk Of Government Shutdown

Video

Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer appeared on State of the Union and accused Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner of pursuing a “reckless” path by allowing talks of a possible government shutdown to persist. With the Democrats and Republicans still in disagreement over how much should be cut from the federal budget, it seems like the battle over the budget is not going to be resolved easily and it won’t be pretty.

Schumer predicted “unfortunately Speaker Boehner seems to be on a course that would inevitably lead to a shutdown.” Instead, Schumer was in favor of a short-term resolution that would give everyone more time to negotiate a middle ground between the president’s budget and the much deeper cuts approved by the House of Representatives on Saturday, which some Democrats are labeling as so severe to be “draconian,” while some Republicans still think don’t go far enough.

Let them shut it down and look like the idiots they are. Exhorting the tax break extensions and the attitude that it is my way or the highway, F’em. What they don’t get is people are educating themselves and are becoming much more aware of who they are and who they really represent. Wisconson will only be a start. People are getting fed up with the redistribution of wealth that is going on in this country…with the top 1% getting richer and richer while the rest of us suck wind and many with “good” jobs live paycheck to paycheck. How about start collecting taxes AGAIN from the people and corps. they have made even richer over the last 10 years, that’s a start.

ROFL – You Morans deserve to have your lib government shut down! As long as my man Boehner makes sure they send 3 months worth of SSI checks, and my hernia operation gets cleared by medicare, and Indiana gets the heating oil subsidy before they shut this sucker down, then I don’t need a thing from your precious Hussein Obama or his damned socialist commie government. I will be watching FOX NEWS (#1!!!!) and reading the Cliff Notes for Atlas Shrugged and LOLing at all you IDIOT LIBS!!!!!!

  • Arkansas Steve

Good grief!! Schumer is such a liar. He thinks we’re all just stupid, but he particularly thinks the Democrats are so stupid they will approve of his lies.

  • timzank

Hey Chuckie, it would have never come to this if you and your MAJORITY had actually created and passed a budget last year. Don’t forget people, Democrats had complete control of the House & Senate and wasted the whole friggin year and never did their most important and primary job, passing a budget.

“We have said shutdown is off the table … Boehner, Mitch McConnell, other Republican leaders have not taken it off the table when asked, and there are lots of people on the hard right clamoring for a shutdown.

The obvious point here is that if it’s so “reckless” to shutdown the government, why have Wisconsin legislators, the President and the DNC all supported the government shutdown in Wisconsin? Not only that, they have shutdown the government by fleeing the state and breaking the law, not to mention the illegal union strikes shutting down schools and national Democrats helping to organize the angry mob descending on Madison.

Excellent point, Sara. At the end of the day, a shut down might be just the thing to get both sides to stop acting like spoiled brat children and sit down and negotiate like adults. This endless “no compromise” attitude by Republicans and Democrats is pointless and dangerous.

Bloyer’s post is a perfect example of the hypocritical lunacy in Wisconsin, Tallahassee and Washington, DC. The lack of any desire to honestly negotiate in good faith instead of preening and posturing is the real problem.

  • josecuervoisgood

let’s see if I have this straight Chuck. The House voted a federal budget and matching appropriations for 2011 (something that should have been done last year in the previous Congress). It reduces the requested spending of $3.7 trillion by a whopping $61 billion – less than 2%. The Senate has two weeks to act. But because the House majority party will not allow a continuing resolution to the end of March so the the government can spend away unabated while the Senate continues to procrastinate on something that should have been done months ago, it is the House majority party which is threatening a government shutdown – not the Senate because it has failed to act.

You know what I find fantastic? I’ve almost never heard the word ‘shutdown’ cross the lips of Republicans in the last six weeks, they have been pretty consistent that they won’t take any option off the table to achieve their budget goals (and why should they?), but the Dems simply can’t stop talking about a Gov’t shutdown…

Democrats simply can’t accept the reality that they are the minority party in the House, and since the house controls the check book, they can’t spend as much as they want…

GOP has a plan, Dems don’t like it, so they blame GOP for not compromising.

This reminds me of 2008, when Senator Obama was the only person on the campaign trail talking about his skin color, but because he said everyone else was talking about it, the Dem faithful accepted it as (another) unchallenged ‘fact’.

If the government shuts down it will be because the Democratically controlled Senate and the Democratic president Mr. Obama did it. Everyone knows this. Only fools say differently.

    .
I agree. My first thought on reading this article was that it is the Dems that I’ve heard talking about a government shut down ad nauseum since the new Congress was convened.

It’s been said here by others but it obviously hasn’t penetrated some of the thicker skulls here that the DEMS own the lack of a budget completely. They deliberately refused to pass a budget for partisan political reasons before the election last year and every problem related to the 2011 Budget rests squarely upon them, including BHO.

They are all reckless. They have run up the debt like it was okay. Now we are in trouble and all anyone can do is point fingers and not be responsible. The solutions are hard. It’s like a diet….eating the ice cream was more fun then running on the tread mill. Cut, consolidate AND BALANCE THE BUDGET.

  • http://www.sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

    Fear monger….

For all the political drama and rhetoric, the actual stakes of a shutdown are not so dire for ordinary Americans. The military would stay active, interstate highways would remain open and government checks would be issued, although new applicants for benefits under programs such as Social Security might have their sign-ups delayed.

In fact, the federal government has had more than a dozen “shutdowns” since 1981. Some lasted only hours, and few are remembered.

Hundreds of thousands of “non-essential” federal workers were furloughed for three weeks, from mid-December to early January. (Some workers eventually received back pay for missed days). National parks, museums, passport offices and other agencies closed.

    Duh!

Because the gouvernment is not shut down in Wisconsin. A branch of the legislature can’t make a quorum call. That’s a vastly different matter.

So, you’re saying destroy the village to save the village; beat the child so you won’t have to discipline the child? Great logic.

So, if Grannie has to eat catfood for a couple of months, it will build her character.

And, since gouvernment workers are paid so lavishly, what of a couple of missed paychecks. Kids are obese anyway. If they have cereal a couple of times a day and pictures of hamburgers hanging on the wall, they’ll know better how to live under the circumstances more befitting them when they become adults. Or, “Let them eat cake!”

No pain there. I mean, really, when did a federal agency ever do anything for anyone?

This is really disgusting, even for you Tumbleweed. For your raised petard in Berlusconireich, you get to decided what is the suitable level of pain the American people ought to endure? One can easily see how t he Irish came to disdain their absentee English landlords. In concept, at least, this may be the least sensitive most insular and self-centered post to ever “grace” this blog.

Well, well, the Chuck starts lying his ass off at 1:58 in to the interview, not a record for him, but it will do. The dems did not have to compromise on anything, they had both houses, they told the republicans to sit in the back of the car because they won.

Prevent social security checks from going out, veterans checks from going out, guards away from the borders. Does this clown ever hop off “Planet Partisan”. If it takes 100 billion to print a check, we need to subcontract that out to a private payroll company right the frak now. Border guards, is he serious? Phoenix is the number two city for kidnapping in the world and he thinks the the border is fine? Hey, newsflash you New York Moron, there is war going on down at the border and it is spilling into our country. People are being pulled across our own border by the cartels and you think its fine. I could go on but why bother.

Chuckie and “Lil’ Tony” Whiner are two reasons why “flyover country” can’t take it from the east coast elites anymore. I hope that these lairs keep up the outmoded and despicable play book, the more they talk, the more seats they will lose in 2012.

Acorn Chuck is always ruinning his mouth and in for another 6 though. Acorn Chuck Schumer is just mad that Acorn isn’t giving him any awards for letting them throw elections this year. Last time he slithered like a snake out the back door so Fox’es Griff Jenkins couldn’t report it. He knows the fringe media with Chunky Katie will look the other way. Sarah Palin knows the 3 branches of the government includes the Judiciary unlike this Acorn dodo.

I sang about him in a song called teapartiers I can’t hear you at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJfboOindCo

    Here’s a verse

Join Acorn once every 4 years vote a 1000 times a day
Obama , Schumer , Holder will keep the justice department away
Acorn Chuck says don’t worry about the voters we only need 51
Daffy,Goofy, Mickey, Minnie will vote for me when I run
The president thinks that kids should work hard in school
He wants Acorn at the table they think 13 year old hookers are cool

Hey guys if you fought at Falluja
hope you have about 5 grand to spare
that’s’ about what is’s going to cost you
If your between 20 or 30 for Obamacare

Not so sure about that, Hugo. In principle, if one person is a DBag, and another is pretending to be a DBag… which is worse?

I’d think to pretend to be a DBag, you pretty much have to be a DBag to begin with… making you a DBag pretending to be another DBag. That’s one vs two… in my book.

Absolutely. The strategy is obvious, but what is the point of winning office if you’re not going to lead on anything. At some point the real leaders will lead on this issue, and it’ll be interesting to see who steps up to the challenges on both sides.

  • CAconservative

Here we go again with the same tired political rhetoric. Now, the Demo-rats want to negotiate? Where the hell have they been for the last two years of Democratic majority? Where the hell were they when Obimbo and his minions were asking for Trillions? Now that the Republicans are in power and are trying to get control of an economy that is spiraling out of control they are saying fine, just don’t gore “our entitlement ox”. This government must be made to live within it’s means. If that means shutting down a useless, bloated government long enough for them to get back to reality, so be it. If that means that things get bad enough for this socialist government to be overthrown by the people, the sooner the better!

  • timcajun

    CAconservative says:

Where the hell have they been for the last two years of Democratic majority?

    …………………….
Pleading with the party of NO to come to the table. Where was Boehner? Entitlements, lets see which republican said “they” would cut entitlements? The teas won’t prove anything with this grade school shutdown. Any change will be blocked. This is just another way that republicans will lose votes. Thanks! Good luck with your overthrow! Make sure and keep up the hate and violence!

If Republicans keep going, they will be making us look very bad to Foreign Countries.
If your head is screwed on right you can see we have more people needing jobs today then present day businesses can accommodate. We need to either get rid of about a half million people or start up about a few hundred thousand businesses. We can convert some of our Colleges and Universities into fabricators of various business types and get them up and running by selling stock in them to get them going. Some ingenious financial maneuvering may need be put into play. These new business will produce products that are determined by the educational institutions to be in demand and investors will flock to these new businesses generated by these Colleges and Universities. This is an Idea whose time has come. The need around the entire globe, for products of necessities, to sustain live is growing and causing civil unrest throughout the entire globe while the Greedy Rascals who are trying to slow down the entire Global Economy so they can rest and control things their way to the benefit of a few prosperous wealthy rascals who are tired of working and don’t want anyone else to get ahead of them. The reason I am the only one who can see things this way is —I don’t let other people pick the topic I want to think and write about. By this I mean; some nut case picks the topic and everyone argues about it. That is like going around in circles. These three different states trying to move us back into the 1920’s and 30’s are making the Republicans and American Business look stupid in the eyes of other Foreign Countries. If you want to get ahead EVERYHONE has got to prosper, otherwise, here comes civil unrest. The world is in need of everything, why can’t we produce and sell it? ? ?

  • CAconservative

    Timcajun:

The point is Sir, the Demo-rat’s didn’t need the Republi-rats did they. Their majority was large enough to pass any ridiculous bill they wanted. And they did, non-stop, until Bush’s deficit was tripled. Where was Boehner? I believe he was out there every day trying to get the Demo-rats to, at least, give the House the appropriate time to read a bill, and have sufficient time to argue the bill. Grade school shutdown? You mean, forcing this government to take the necessary steps to cut the fat from Obimbo’s ridiculous budget? It appears the Republi-rats are gaining popularity with their agenda. Hate, and violence? Where the hell did you come up with that little bit of non-sense? Your bottom-feeding entitlements must be getting challenged!!

  • timcajun

    CAconservative,

If I was wrong about the violence and hate, then I am corrected. I still don’t think the RINO’s will look good after the shutdown, by the polls. This is being done for the teas payback and I don’t think in the end it will work for them. (votes) As for entitlements, which side has had the balls to (as a group) claim cuts? You are right some entitlements can be cut.

  • Ajxjb

I simply cannot agree. I am dissapointed with the short memories of so many Americans. The republicans ran up a massive debt financing a massive war, and then there was a financial meltdown… and all of this means that your in debt… not healthcare…. so stop gassbagging about an economic situation that you want simple answers for, when its a very complex situation. How you got there is 8 years of Bush, war, and lax regulation of your investment banks.
