Stephen Colbert: Debt Bill Was Only Two-Sided In That ‘Dems Had To Take It In Both Ends’

video

President Obama yesterday signed into law the controversial debt bill that not only raised the debt ceiling, but also seemed to have done political damage to both the White House and Democrats who appeared to have done less compromising, and more capitulating to an obstinate Tea Party-lead congressional GOP caucus. How bad was the final deal? Well even fake newsman Stephen Colbert has piled on to the liberal side of the aisle, and not in the amplified absurd of hyperbole of his “character” but in a way that seems to reveal that he really thinks the Dems got screwed…at both ends.

Facts that propagandists like Colbert and Stewart wont tell you:

-Democrats had a super majority for 2 years and what did they do with it?
-Democrats have been in charge since the 2006 election
    -We have a Democrat president
-Obama doubled America’s deficit in only a few months

The MSM (Colbert included) is trying to deflect blame for the current situation in order to give Obama the best chance in 2012. Its the same crap they’ve been doing since the man took office. Remember Stewart’s “rally to restore sanity” just before the 2010 elections? All they care about is getting Democrat reelected.

do any conservatives find him funny? i really want to know, cause he does so many bits that i feel are funny regardless of what party you’re in

  • Anonymous

I’m a liberal and i agree with you, its depressing to see how little democrats have done and how incompetent they’ve been these past few years. although, i have to say, i think deflecting blame in order to get re-elected is basically politics in a nutshell. its something all politicians do on a pretty regular basis

“its something all politicians do on a pretty regular basis”

Yeah, but the media isn’t supposed to help them in doing it.

    Fact: Lean Forward Colbert!

Congrats to Mediaite (and Alex) for getting screen time during Colbert’s first story.

  • ImNotBlue

I watched his program when it first began, but got bored of it within a week.  The first time he ran over to the interview desk waving was funny.  The second time, it was funny-ironic.  The third time is was old hat.  And after that, it was just annoying and unfunny.

He has his moments, just like all performers do.  But in general, I’m not going to leave him on the television for very long.  The schtick it old and terribly predictable.

  • Anonymous

It was funny at first, but it’s just schtick and even great schtick gets tired. This was never great schtick. Good, but not great. His rally performance was cringeworthy.

Debt Bill Was Only Two-Sided In That ‘Dems Had To Take It In Both Ends’

Why not? They are the party of pederasty!

  • The Real Royal Emperor

Böner says he got 98% of what he wanted. Judging from the markets since passage, I’d say he was 98% wrong.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

    Pure ugliness. Thoroughly crude.

  • Anonymous

Disgusting that you would even think that kind of thing.

  • Anonymous

    OK. That’s kind of funny.

  • Anonymous

Admitted. The rally was amateurish. Not his usual stuff at all.

    Yes libs are!

“take it in both ends”, like those democruds, I’m sure Colbert speak from personal experience.

  • Calligal

I am confused, why was it ok for them to do the ObamaCare behind closed doors?  I did not see one conservative call them a Terrorist or Lefty or worse.
This is the way it was BEFORE THE TEA PARTY now, lol we will have our way.  VOTE BRING YOUR KIDS TELL YOUR CHURCH TO VOTE.

LOL, now you see, we are not silent anymore, oh..not as loud as you but we will get the job done.

“Obama doubled America’s deficit in only a few months”

That’s an outright lie. You can look up the actual figures yourself on
    http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/mspd/mspd.htm

Reagan tripled the national debt; Bush41 doubled it; the national debt increased under Clinton about 40%; Bush43 doubled it (from 5.5 to 11 trillion).  Obama has increased it about 27% in 2+ years.  Only an ignoramus thinks 27% equals “doubled” let alone thinks that increase happened in a few months.

You would do better to just STFU and be thought a fool than post your BS and remove all doubt, Drone.

  • WardMD

In 2006 (the last time [only time in my lifetime] we had Republican President, and Republicans in charge of BOTH houses of congress), the Deficit was $269 Billion.

In 2010 (with Obama, Pelosi, Reid – complete Democrat majority), the Defict was $1.65 TRILLION

THAT, my friends, is a 513% INCREASE in Deficit Spending.

I suppose the Democrats think “The Rich” should have a 513% Increase in their taxes – to be “fair”?!

At present, our National Debt is $14.3 TRILLION – this “Deal” means that in 10 years, our Debt will increase to $27 Trillion (and that INCLUDES the $2 trillion in [so-called] “Cuts”)!

As far as Colbert (and the Drive-by Media) is concerned…  Obama got TWO of his objectives in this “deal”:  An Increase in the Debt “Ceiling”, and NOT having to vote on the Debt Ceiling again until AFTER his 2012 election efforts!

Is there ANY DOUBT in ANYONE’s mind, that without the “Tea Party” Republicans, Boehner and the Republican “Elite” would have CAVED to Obama/Reid’s demands (increase the Debt Ceiling AND increase taxes)?

That TROLL, Juan McCain, can call the “Tea Party” Republicans “a Banana, if he wants to”, but THEY (not HIM) were instumental in getting the “deal” (without tax increases) as THE “deal” we ended up with!

  • WardMD

The Markets AND Moody’s are upset with the FACT that the U.S. is STILL OVER-SPENDING!

The “deal” resulted in A) The Debt “Ceiling” being increased [something that pretty much EVERYONE believed was a done deal from day 1]; B) a Reduction (not elimination) of the OVER-SPENDING (over 10 years).

You think Wall Street (and Moody’s) were supposed to do cartwheels knowing that we’re going from our CURRENT Debt of $14.3 TRILLION to $27 TRILLION (over 10 years)?  HOW is THAT supposed to make “the market” (or the Ratings firms) content with the U.S. Economic Plan?

Fact: Obama signed his debt bill into law and then spewed out too wall street just after signing his law that he attends to raise taxes on companies that are creating jobs to spread the wealth and that is why Obama has himself killed stocks by at least 700 plus points in last three trading days. How much of a moron can you be today!

    Tell that to FUX News.

  • Hagen619dj

Yes, it’s plain to see that the dems do not like the Tea Party group.  To “get even” lets see them get a group together and try to save the government. You can bet they won’t be a controlled well-behaved group as the Tea Party. Even Obama tried to make them out as trouble. Funny how that works.  complain but don’t do anything about it. He garbled change till he couldn’t think of anything different. At least the Tea party had a purpose and accomplished it pretty darn well (if I do say so myself). Term limits in congress need to be added to the ballots. It’s plain to see that new blood does help set a few “old” minds straight. Our congress is so full of those making politics a life-time sport that they don’t see past their noses anymore. They are so afraid to ruffle feathers of their money suppliers. Greed and dishonesty has perfailed for much too long. Instead of complaining about the Tea Party; let’s work on getting term limits in Congress and you will see a whole new Country come to light.

Darr Darr needs to learn the difference between debt and deficit.

  • http://twitter.com/BarneyFranken Barney Frankenstein

Thank you for saying this. I myself hate the opening of the show- its a 22 minute show with commercials, so why do they waste so much airtime cheering for him? Sit down and shut up people!

The opening two minutes of the Colbert Report are the worst two minutes on TV. Colbert’s (and Stewart’s) audience makes their shows far less palatable than if they were just on their own. That being said, I dvr every episode because Im a sucker for comedy, and Colbert can be wicked funny when he’s not so wickedly partisan.

Colbert has moved CONSIDERABLY to the left over the years- more than Stewart if you can believe it. The only time you could ever be confused with his ideology is when he says stuff like “as a fiscal conservative” and then continues ranting like a liberal.

  • LJB57

Your first name wouldn’t be Simon would it.

  • LJB57

You’re making excuses for the worst President in history, typical Brain-DEAD lib.

  • LJB57

I think he probably needs to learn to count to 10 also.

There was over 50 Blue Dog Dems members of congress that were DINO.

  • Anonymous

I consider myself more of an Independent that a conservative, but what his faults are in silliness and predictability, he makes up with intelligence.  Colbert is such a smart dude, he gets whats going on in politics and he nails it 10 times out of 10.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

His Supreme Highness adds: I did my best. The sentiment is still clumsy and the facts all wrong, but there is only so much I can do with someone who writes so poorly. Are you an eight (8) year old Latvian taking his first English course?

I think you scared Darr Darr away with facts…something liberals have a very hard time understanding so they just ignore them.

  • nancillarypeloslinton

This boy’s funny-growing, unchecked debt as far as the eye can see is just hilarious.

  • http://twitter.com/BarneyFranken Barney Frankenstein

Maybe his name is “Darr Darr” because that’s the only sound that he can make when he speaks.

  • http://twitter.com/Darr247 Darr Darr

The facts are, Bush43 and the repugnantones house/senate in 2006 were hiding the costs of 2 wars “off the books” – a budgetary trick that would send real-world accountants to jail. They were using two sets of books, rather than double-entry accounting. Obama insisted those costs (including the costs that had previously been hidden) be properly recorded and brought back onto the books, which is what appeared to suddenly increase the current budget deficit.

Your concerted slime attacks are raising prevarication and disingenuousness to all-time highs. The Koch brothers would be proud. How much does the baggers’ PR slush fund pay you, by the way?

  • Siobhan

    You’re not a liberal.

  • LJB57

That’s 100% rubbish and you know it.

…I’m a Professional poster and get paid BIG BUCKS to spread the truth, and those $1000 Checks are pilling up.
    see ya round.
