Country star Morgan Wallen has issued an apology after being caught on tape using the N-word.
On Tuesday, TMZ leaked a video of Wallen arriving home in Nashville after a night out with friends. The clip, reportedly recorded by a neighbor, shows the singer calling one of his pals the N-word while yelling other expletives.
“I’m embarrassed and sorry,” Wallen said in a statement to TMZ. “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Cumulus Media, the second biggest radio chain in the nation, has reportedly sent a directive to program directors instructing them to pull Wallen’s songs from their stations.
According to Variety, the message read: “Team, unfortunately country music star Morgan Wallen was captured on video Sunday evening using a racial slur. Effective immediately we request that all of Morgan Wallen’s music be removed from our playlists without exception. More to follow.”
Wallen is no stranger to controversy involving leaked videos. In October, Saturday Night Live canceled his performance after a video surfaced of him breaking COVID-19 protocols by partying in a bar without a mask. Wallen issued an apology and was brought back to the show in December.
