Four migrants have reportedly escaped from New Jersey’s Delaney Hall Detention Center after days of unrest over food service in the facility.
The drama unfolded Thursday night when detainees revolted over conditions at the facility, specifically the quality and frequency of food, The New York Times reported.
As tempers flared, about 50 migrants housed at the facility brought down a dorm wall and several climbed out using bedsheets, according to Fox News.
Delaney Hall, which can hold up to 1,000 detainees, has been a point of contention since it opened — including allegations of inhumane conditions and lack of proper permits.
It was the scene of a chaotic protest last month that saw the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and several members of Congress in a confrontation with federal officials.
Other lawmakers present during that protest were New Jersey Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez Jr., and LaMonica McIver, all Democrats.
McIver was later indicted after Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba claimed she “assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement.”
“She was out of line!” Trump border czar Tom Homan told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing after McIver was charged.
McIver has denied any wrongdoing.
