CNN Anchor Questions Jim Jordan’s Logic on ‘Anti-Weaponization’ Fund: Did They Not ‘Teach You This in Law School?!’

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) didn’t seem to understand why two Republican hold-out senators wanted attorney general nominee Todd Blanche to put in writing that the Trump “anti-weaponization” fund was well and truly dead.

Earlier this month, a federal judge struck down an agreement that granted the Trump family immunity from tax audits and would have created the massive $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund for his supporters, in exchange for the president dropping his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS.

On Thursday’s The Arena with Kasie Hunt, Jordan said he just couldn’t understand  why senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) were demanding a written guarantee that the deal be permanently declared dead — or else they’ll vote “no” on Blanche’s confirmation.

Hunt asked if Jordan was “supportive of that settlement?”

“Well, Todd said it’s dead. I think he said that multiple times. So, I don’t know what is going on in these negotiations. The guy who’s going to be hopefully the next attorney general has said, ‘This thing is finished.’ So, I don’t understand why they’re  —” Jordan argued.

“Yeah, but he won’t put it in writing. Why won’t he put it in writing?” Hunt pressed.

JORDAN:  Well, if that if that’s the agreement, then I don’t know that he hasn’t done that. All we know is what —

HUNT: Well, he told Congress that he wouldn’t. He told a House committee that he wouldn’t put it in writing.

JORDAN:  Well, I mean, he’s the attorney general. He’s the acting attorney general. He said it’s dead. They’re not going to do it. I don’t know what else it takes.

HUNT: Well, you’re a lawyer! Would you actually not — I mean don’t you tell any clients you’ve ever had, “Get it in writing?” Isn’t that like, I don’t know, “Legal 101?” I don’t know,  I’m not a lawyer. Full disclosure.

JORDAN: I’m not a lawyer either. I went to law school, graduated, didn’t take the bar exam. So I don’t know. But what I do know is Todd Blanche —

HUNT: Did they not teach you this in law school?

JORDAN: Well, you can get it in writing. I don’t don’t know that matter, and maybe that’s part of the agreement. I don’t know what’s being negotiated!

Jordan brought up former Attorney General Merrick Garland, exclaiming, “they confirmed him but won’t vote for Todd Blanche?”

“Well, I think the issue is partly that they want to use taxpayer money to pay people who hurt cops on January 6th,” Hunt answered.
