CNN Aviation Expert Absolutely Torches Trump for Blaming Crash on DEI: ‘Unprofessional, Unpresidential’ and ‘Frankly, Unhinged’

CNN’s aviation correspondent tore into President Donald Trump for blaming the deadly plane crash in Washington, D.C. on DEI.

In a stunning commentary delivered right after the president’s news conference about the tragedy concluded Thursday, CNN aviation correspondent Pete Muntean went off on Trump for suggesting DEI initiatives had anything to do with the collision of an American Airlines passenger jet and a Black Hawk helicopter Wednesday night.

“Are DEI policies at the FAA to blame [for the crash]?” CNN’s Pamela Brown asked.

“I put my head in my hands, Pam, when the president said that,” Muntean replied. “This is something that has been pushed by the far right for a few months now, that DEI policies are to blame [for] the degradation of safety in aviation in the United States. But frankly, the president is getting out ahead of his skis here.”

Muntean added, “What he has said is not only unprofessional, unpresidential, inconsiderate of the status of this investigation, but frankly… unhinged that he could even say with any sort of certainty that diversity, equity and inclusion policies had any part to play in this accident.”

Trump, during his press conference, sounded off about past FAA directives about the hiring of air traffic controllers.

“The initiative is part of the FAA diversity and inclusion hiring plan,” Trump said. “Think of that. The initiative is part of the FAA diversity and inclusion hiring plan.”

He added, “A group within the FAA determined the workforce was too white. They actually came out with a directive saying it’s too white.”

Muntean — who is also a pilot and flight instructor, in addition to serving as a CNN correspondent — was outraged at the president linking DEI to the crash.

“Remember that 67 people are dead!” Muntean said. “I hate to get so upset here, but this is something that investigators will really need to pick apart piece-by-piece. And that is going to take some really significant time. We’re not even 24 hours after this crash. We’re barely even 12 hours after this crash. And he is saying with a lot of certainty that the blame is on DEI, and the blame is in some ways on air traffic control, and air traffic controller hiring.”
