CNN Studio Cracks Up Over Trump Advisers Noticing That All Those Hitler Headlines Are Not Optimal

CNN stars cracked up over reporting that former President Donald Trump’s advisers have digested the seemingly obvious news that being in headlines with Adolf Hitler for a week is not optimal.

passage from Trump’s Veterans Day speech in New Hampshire is being widely pilloried as echoing the likes of Hitler and Benito Mussolini. — and has garnered several weeks worth of headlines in just a few days.

On Thursday morning’s edition of CNN This Morning, Semafor’s Shelby Talcott cracked up co=anchors Phil Mattingly and Poppy Harlow and their panel by reporting that behind the scenes, Trump advisers admit the Hitler stuff is not “a positive” for Trump.

But perhaps equally as obviously, Talcott reported at least one Trump adviser sees a silver lining as well:

HARLOW: Some other interesting reporting you have, Shelby, on Trump’s team’s reaction to the blowback they’ve gotten from him using the term “vermin” to describe his political opponents.

TALCOTT: Yes, it’s been really interesting because Biden’s team has obviously jumped on this. And not just jumped on the vermin comment, but jumped on the various reporting we’ve seen about Trump’s potential policy plans for the next administration. And I think that’s where team Biden thinks they’re going to be really effective is reminding voters this is who Trump is, this is what he plans to do.

But on Trump’s side, his aides have privately admitted that it is obviously not a positive for him to be in the same headline as Hitler and – and – and these types of dictators.

(laughter)

AVLON: It’s a great concession to reality!

MATTINGLY: Astute. astute, political observation!

TALCOTT: But they also have argued that — I had one person say to me that they saw hundreds of chyrons over the past few days that said “Trump calls Democrats vermin,” and they said that’s an effective message at least in a primary.

MATTINGLY: That is one way to look at it. The reporting is great, and Semafor’s Shelby Talcott, Joyce, John, we appreciate you.
