‘Cowardly!’ Megyn Kelly Slams Caitlin Clark for Refusing to Comment on Trans Athletes

Megyn Kelly has beef with Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.

Kelly dove straight into the deep end of the controversy surrounding Clark’s teammate, Sophie Cunningham, who made comments via ESPN that many considered to be transphobic. While Cunningham has shown a zest for handling the outcry and support that have both followed, Clark has appeared less inclined to address a situation not of her own making.

Kelly said:

These women’s coaches are absolute effing cowards, and we have taken one step forward, two steps back when it comes to this issue. I am sick of people who don’t know anything about this spewing their ignorance all over the internet, whether it’s verbally or through their dumb T-shirts or the attacks on the Sophie Cunningham who simply spoke truth about how it’s not fair to allow men to compete in women’s sports. If this is the fact that there’s this much backlash against her shows we’re not nearly as far along on this issue as I thought we were, and I’m sorry, Caitlin Clark was directly asked to speak on it, and she was cowardly! She refused to do it. It is one thing to inject politics into your sport where they don’t belong, like Colin Kaepernick kneeling in the middle of professional football games. It’s quite another when little girls are getting the shit kicked out of them in their sport, and you are the most famous woman in women’s basketball, and you’re directly asked as the issue rears its head in your sport, and you punt on it.

There are no transgender women playing basketball in the WNBA. Layshia Clarendon, who retired after 12 years in the league, was the first and only non-binary player in the league. In 2024, NCAA President Charlie Baker testified there were fewer than 10 transgender athletes—male or female—in college sports.

There are also no reports of “little girls” who “are getting the shit kicked out of them in their sport” due to transgender women playing the same sport. In 2022, Lia Thomas became the first openly transgender female athlete to win a Division I title. Thomas was later stripped of her awards in 2025.

Kelly further claimed Clark should support Cunningham, who “does nothing other than have Caitlin’s back.” Kelly added, “That’s kind of her main role. She scores points, and she has Caitlin’s back as Caitlin gets attacked in her own league with refs who won’t support her.” Cunningham who is averaging 9.3 points per game, currently ranks 54th in the league in terms of points scored.
