Hillary Clinton Warns Key Republican Attack Line Against Democrats Will Be ‘Very Effective’

Republicans are deploying a “very effective attack” line against Democrats, Hillary Clinton warned in a new interview.

Democrats must keep their eyes on the prize of winning general elections, the former presidential nominee and Secretary of State said in the chat with journalist Kara Swisher for Swisher’s podcast Pivot with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway.

Clinton made her remarks on the podcast Friday, in which she pointed to Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed (D)and his bruising primary battle with Rep. Haley Stevens (D) as a chance for Democrats to come together to beat Republican candidates.

“I think there’s no doubt that, you know, the Republican Party is the Trump Cult and the Democratic Party is a bigger tent. We do have a broad cross-section of people, what they believe, what their experiences are. I think that’s an advantage, but we also have to win general elections.”

Organizing around Abdul El-Sayed is part of that plan, she added, and will “require a lot of outreach and a lot of willingness on the part of the winning candidate and his supporters to know that they need the people that they were vilifying online, in person.”

Clinton added its critical for those in the party’s far-left flank to support their fellow Democrats when general elections come about:

I mean, the kind of things that were said about Haley [Stevens], her supporters, there were a lot of really nasty personal attacks, which you’re familiar with …

One thing that we haven’t yet seen enough of is that when the progressives are left, whatever we want to call candidates on that side of the Democratic Party, when they lose, they often don’t support the candidate that has been nominated.

You know, there was a lot of reluctance to support Kamala Harris. There was a lot of reluctance to support me when I got the nomination. So it can’t be a one-way street.

El-Sayed will struggle to “convince Republican voters in Michigan” of much of anything,” Clinton added.

“And the real fight will be how do we make sure that people who voted for Haley feel comfortable voting for Abdul El-Sayed, and how do we get Independents to feel comfortable? And you can see that it’s not just about Michigan, but the Republican messaging is communist, socialist. It’s going to be a very effective attack.”

“People on the left have to be prepared to answer that and be effective in answering that,” she added.

When Swisher asked if the “communist” label is an effective attack in 2026, Clinton replied, “All I know is that is the attack Trump is leading with …I assume they have reason to believe it’s effective or they wouldn’t be beating the drum on it.”

“They are trying to bring back scare tactics about our candidates,” she added.
