MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan Shares Post Condemning Israeli Government Rhetoric and Denouncing ‘Israeli War Crimes’ to Come

MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan went off on social media — sharing a post that condemned future “Israeli war crimes” in response to the devastating attacks by Hamas on Saturday.

Hasan posted on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, about Israel and Hamas after the unprecedented, coordinated attack on civilians by Palestinian gunmen Saturday. Hundreds were killed in Israel and Gaza as Israeli soldiers combatted the Hamas militants, and the numbers are expected to rise as the fighting continues and Hamas kidnapped civilians and soldiers to use as hostages.

Israel launched military strikes in Gaza as part of their counteroffensive, and as Hasan reposted coverage from the conflict, he flagged a video that was highlighted by his fellow MSNBC host, Ayman Mohyeldin. The clip showed Israeli Major General Ghasan Alyan, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, giving a statement that translates to “Hamas has opened the gates of Hell into the Gaza Strip. Hamas made the decision, and Hamas will bear the responsibility and pay for its deeds.”

Hasan shared a post from an author who has written about the Middle East condemning that rhetoric by saying, “This type of apocalyptic language should be alarming to everyone. The scale of Israeli war crimes in Gaza is likely to exceed anything we have seen before.”

Hasan also reposted a tweet from political scientist Ian Bremmer who said the “unprecedented failure of Israel intelligence” was to blame for the situation.

“Utter desperation of Gaza Palestinians, with many seeing no options for their future but the launch of a suicidal war,” Bremmer added. “Such a tragic situation, with huge human suffering to come.

Hasan continued to amplify further commentary, along with posting some of his own. Some of what he posted tried to establish a comparison between what Israelis and Palestinians have previously done to each other, even as the former reels from this latest attack. The MSNBC host also made reference to the harsh rhetoric Israel has directed at Gaza in the past.

Others criticized the Israeli government’s ability to prevent the attack from happening.

Hasan argued that Israel’s retaliation for the attack will inevitably create more innocent victims in Gaza because of Hamas’ actions.

And finally, Hasan amplified the insinuation that Israel is trying to deflect the blame for the inevitable retaliation in Gaza.
