Trump Tells Republicans They’ll Never Lose Again if They Nuke Filibuster: ‘If We Do What I’m Saying’ Democrats Will ‘Most Likely Never Attain Power’

President Donald Trump amped up his push for GOP Senators to nuke the filibuster — vowing that, if they do so, Democrats will “likely never attain power.”

Speaking Wednesday morning at a breakfast for Republican senators, the president urged action to promptly end the government shutdown — which he partially blamed for the party’s election night losses.

“The biggest thing is the filibuster,” Trump said. “We have to get the country going. We will pass legislation at levels you’ve never seen before, and it will be impossible to beat us.”

Trump went on to paint a doomsday picture for Republicans on what he believes Democrats will do when they regain control of Congress.

“They are going to immediately do the filibuster,” Trump said. “And when they do the filibuster, they’re gonna pack the [Supreme] Court. … They’re going to do it the first day. They’re gonna pack the court. They’re gonna make D.C. a state. And they’re gonna make Puerto Rico a state, so now they pick up two states. They pick up four senators, okay? You think you have problems? They’re gonna do all of the things. They’re going to pick up electoral votes. It’s gonna be a very, very bad situation. And it’s done. It’s done as soon as they attain power.”

But Trump vowed that scenario would not play out if Republicans beat Democrats to the punch.

“If we do what I’m saying, they’ll most likely never attain power,” Trump said. “Because we will have passed every single thing that you can imagine that is good – and all good for the country. And there’ll be no reason to. If we don’t do that, people will say, ‘they’re not doing much,’ and [Democrats are] in power.”
