NEW POLL: Trump J6 Pardons Opposed By Whopping 64 Percent — Even More Oppose Hegseth Women In Combat Ban

Despite claims of a broad mandate for President-elect Donald Trump, a new poll shows overwhelming opposition to some things he promised to do — including almost 2/3 of Americans who don’t support pardoning January 6 defendants.

Going into Election Day, the expectation was that it would be a close presidential race that could take days or longer to reach a clear decision. But once polls began to close and the results poured in, it was only a matter of hours before outlets called the race for Trump.

That surprisingly decisive win has given momentum to the idea of a sweeping mandate, but a new Scripps poll shows that a lot of people could end up displeased with Trump in fairly short order — especially if his embattled defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth gets his way and bans women from combat:

While Trump had an advantage on Election Day among voters who felt he could better handle the economy, many independent-leaning Americans remain skeptical of his potential agenda outside of inflation and taxes.

That includes pardoning the more than 1,500 people charged with crimes related to the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. Sixty-four percent of respondents said they opposed the pardons, including 68% of independents. Still, more than half of Republicans (56%) said they would support it.

Nearly three-quarters of respondents, including 64% of Republicans, oppose restricting women in combat.

Though not one of the policy positions of the president-elect during the campaign, his nominee for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has previously made clear his opposition to both genders serving together in combat.

But some Trump priorities fared better in the poll — especially “downsizing the federal government”:

Other priorities Trump has vowed to act on in the early days of his next administration have support from just about half the country – including shutting down the U.S.-Mexico border (50%) and easing restrictions on fossil fuel drilling (46%). A majority, 57%, supports downsizing the federal government.
