Tens of Thousands March In London Demanding ‘Ceasefire Now’ In Gaza War

Tens of thousands of protesters against the war between Israel and Hamas marched in different parts of the world demanding a ceasefire and end to the violence in Gaza, mainly in protest of Israel and support of Palestine.

Last month, Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel, killing innocent civilians and taking over 200 hostages. Israel responded with precision airstrikes and a ground invasion into the Gaza region to eliminate Hamas.

Protesters against Israel’s response have demanded the United States cut aide to the Jewish nation and pressure the government to engage in talks for a ceasefire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated the ground invasion will not be delayed or hindered by a ceasefire agreement.

Despite calls from members of his own party, President Joe Biden has reaffirmed United States’ commitment to Israel and has vowed to support them in their fight against Hamas.

On Saturday, hundreds of thousands took to the street of central London chanting “stop bombing Gaza” and “ceasefire now.” The march included approximately 300,000 people that included a 3 mile walk from a London park to the US embassy.

Meanwhile right-wing counter protesters clashed with law enforcement leading to 82 arrests and multiple injuries.

Meanwhile, thousands took to the streets of South Africa’s capital city Cape Town on Saturday to also express solidarity with Palestine and call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

An official from Israel’s foreign affairs ministry earlier this week noted that the death toll from the October 7th attack by Hamas stands at 1,200, down from the initial 1,400.
