Top Republican Snipes at America’s Critics in Fiesty Newsmax Hit: Go to Europe ‘Where They Don’t Have Air Conditioning!’

A top Republican had a blunt message for America’s critics with the 250th anniversary of the nation’s birth just days away: leave.

Reacting to the apparent rise in popularity of socialism and  recent election victories by Democratic Socialists in New York and Colorado, Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) said America’s haters should decamp for Europe.

Appearing on Newsmax’s National Report, the House Republican Conference chair discussed her love for the United States before slamming those who disagreed:

For the people in our country, who want to turn this country into a communist country? Leave. You’re free to leave. The beauty about America is, you can leave! Go to Europe where they’re experiencing this heat wave and they don’t have any air condition[ing]. See how well that works for you! I’m proud to be an American. I respect the flag and I respect the people who made the sacrifice to make this country what it is today. Freedom. Free speech, family faith? Why aren’t we celebrating the greatest nation on Earth.”

The congresswoman’s remarks came as Europe, where air conditioning is far less common than America, has experienced an historic heat wave which has left thousands of people dead.

A similar heatwave has settled upon much of the northeastern United States, with a “heat dome” bringing soaring temperatures above the 100-degree mark in many spots as the nation marks the Fourth of July holiday with numerous festivities in New York City and Washington, D.C.

McClain’s comments came just days after a Pew Center poll found that while most Democrats, 56%, neither liked nor disliked politicians who described themselves as “democratic socialists,” a third of those polled had a very different opinion.

About 32% of Democrats polled in the January survey, which was released this week, said they liked political leaders who called themselves democratic socialists while just 11% fell into the opposite camp.
