‘Ma’am, No!’ MS NOW Host Grouses at the Premise That Trump Is More Transparent Than Biden
The Trump White House is far less transparent than the Biden White House was, MS NOW’s Eugene Daniels bluntly told his colleague Antonia Hylton Thursday. Daniels was asked about the the topic during a discussion about President Donald Trump’s potential conflicts of interest.
Hylton played audio from Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY), who said the president is “filling out his disclosure form” and hasn’t “left anything out” in terms of conflicts of interest, including the $1.4 billion he’s made from his cryptocurrency businesses.
“Eugene, is Trump more transparent than the Bidens?” Hylton asked.
“Ma’am, no!” Daniels answered with a laugh. “I think intellectual consistency is not something we’re going to find on Capitol Hill, like, period, and it goes against anyone with common sense looking at the situation.”
He added, “Right. I think something that’s very fascinating about Trump 2.0 is that if the grift, if the graft, if the alleged corruption is happening in front of your eyes, allegedly, it’s not corruption, it’s not a gift, it’s not a graft. And I think that is something that our institutions were not really prepared for. Right?”
“Is someone who just says, I’m going to ignore the standards, maybe not the law, right? Not the regulations, but the standards and the rules that other presidents have followed, because I don’t get any credit for it. And because, you know, no one seems to care,” continued Daniels.
“That is a completely different political world than we have ever thought we were going to have in this country,” he added. “All of the presidents before now have gone to lengths to make sure there isn’t even the whiff of impropriety when it comes to how they’re making their money. Whether it’s blind trust, selling homes, or not being able to put a second mortgage on their home like the Obamas wanted to do, and [attorney] Norm Eisen wouldn’t let them because they said, ‘You regulate the housing market, you can’t actually do that’. And so when you have a president who is just ignoring all of that. They pretend like there’s transparency, but that does not mean that everything that is happening is above board.”
A federal filing revealed this week that the president made more than $1 billion thanks to his family’s cryptocurrency businesses. Trump received $500 million from a company he founded alongside his sons, Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Barron Trump, as well as another $635 million from $TRUMP meme coin sales.
