US Forces Pummel Iran With ‘Heavy Wave’ of Retaliatory Strikes After ‘Surprise Attack’

U.S. forces punished Iran with a “heavy wave” of strikes on various Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets, U.S. Central Command said on Wednesday night.

The strikes began at about 7 p.m. ET, and concluded roughly three hours later, CENTCOM said. The assault was in response to Iran’s “attempted surprise attack” on U.S. bases the night before.

“CENTCOM assets struck dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran, including military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime capabilities,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted to X. “The strikes aimed to further diminish threats posed by Iran and its proxies to American forces, commercial shipping, and neighboring Gulf countries.”

The post came complete with a montage of the strikes.

“More than 50,000 U.S. service members are currently deployed to the Middle East and remain highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready,” the statement concluded.

The massive attack came a day after the IRGC targeted U.S. military officials with ballistic missiles in what was dubbed an “attempted surprise attack.” All of the missiles were successfully intercepted, CENTCOM said.

Last week, The New York Times reported that President Donald Trump had reversed course on a planned major attack after days of strikes against Iran, but it appears that assault was back on the table as of Wednesday.
