Seth Meyers Mocks Trump’s ‘Affordability’ Hoax Spin With Awkward Campaign Trail Reminder: ‘You’re the One Who Said It!’

Seth Meyers mocked President Donald Trump’s complaints that “affordability” concerns are a hoax invented by Democrats to undermine him, reminding the president that he campaigned on “Making America Affordable Again.”

The Late Night host began by rolling back a slew of clips of Trump at campaign rallies promising to “end inflation and make America affordable again” on “Day 1” of his new term, if he were to win the 2024 presidential election.

“You heard him. He said he would make America affordable — he would do it on day one,” Meyers said, pivoting, “At a rally this week, he reflected on that promise. Let’s hear how things are going.”

The host then ran back a clip of Trump arguing that the “fake news” media made up the term affordability.

“I said, ‘What’s affordability? What’s that all about?’” the president said.

Meyers cut in: “That brings us to a brand new segment called, ‘I feel f*cking crazy.’”

Rounding on Trump, he continued: “What do you mean, ‘What’s affordability?’ – you’re the one who said it!”

“You said we were going to make America affordable again. Affordability is the noun form of the adjective affordable!” the host railed. “You f*cking drop out!”

He continued: “This is like if after chanting, ‘Build that wall’ for four years, he admitted he didn’t know what a wall was.”

“I mean, the guy said everything would be cheaper on Day 1 and not just a little cheaper, way cheaper,” he added, rolling back a clip of the president promising “gasoline below $2 a gallon.”

Impersonating Trump, Meyers mocked: “‘We’re getting gasoline below $2 a gallon. Spirit Airlines will exist forever, and Taco Bell lettuce will always be safe to eat.’”

“He promised $2 a gallon of gas, and now it’s more than double that,” the host said. “Gas is so expensive that the last time my uncle made me pull his finger, he sent me a bill afterwards.”
